The Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register (NOR):
Steady increase characterizes the register
Extensive quality control of
registered information continued in
November and December 2013 as
well as in January 2014. The result
is an even more updated register.
All vessels navigating along the Norwegian
coastline are represented in our domestic register.
Vessels of 15 meters and more are subject
to mandatory registration whereas vessels
less than 15 meters are voluntarily entered
into the register.
STATUS
91 new vessels entered the NOR register in
November 2013, 14 more than in the same
month the year before. At the same time,
57 vessels were deleted, 38 more than in
November 2012. With the exception of the
Merchant Fleet in NOR, the activity was
high.
The number of new registrations declined
slightly in December when we ended up
with 78 new additions, 4 more than during
the same month in 2012. With 41 deletions,
compared to 19 in December the year before,
the NOR registered ended the year counting
17 713 vessels with a total gross tonnage of
3 368 308.
2014 continued with an increase of new
vessels, 76 new registrations and 20 deletions.
At the end of this year’s first month, the register
had reached a new peak with a total of 17
769 vessels with a gross tonnage of 3 407 203.
Eight percent increase in two
years
From January 2012 to January 2014 the number
of registered vessels increased from 16 465
to 17 769. The additional 1 304 vessels represent
an increase of nearly eight percent.
At the end of 2013, the NOR registered
part of the merchant fleet amounted to 881
vessels, a decrease from the 903 vessels that
made up the fleet at the end of 2012. The
merchant fleet is comprised by vessels of 100
gross tons and more, with a few exceptions.
Vessels belonging to the Norwegian Maritime
Authority’s categories for fishing/hunting,
specialized vessels and others are not included
in this fleet.
The majority of all new registrations are
still recreational craft, followed by smaller
work boats, fishing vessels and supply vessels
for platforms.
BERGEN IS STILL NUMBER ONE
Which Norwegian city is the most sought
after home port for vessels registered in the
NOR?
Both Bergen and Oslo has had 22 new
additions since October 2013, thus ensuring
their continued good standings. The ten most
used home ports have remained unchanged
since June 2013.
