UTHUS Alle uthusfunskjonene, som rom for forskjellige husdyrslag og avling, ble tidligere fordelt på flere hus. Allerede på 1700-tallet kom flere av uthusfunksjonene under ett tak, som bl.a. fiøs, løe, låve osv. Disse bygningene var likevel forholdsvis små. Løa Løa var brukt til lagring av høy og var ofte bygget sammen med fiøs og andre rom for husdyr, særlig på mindre plasser, og bygget både i en eller to etasjer. De eldste uthusene vi har igjen i <strong>Aust</strong>- <strong>Agder</strong> er tømret. Den vanligste uthusformen i eldre tid hadde en planinndeling bestående av to fôrrom, adskilt av et rom for tresking, et såkalt seksvegget uthus. Mindre plasser kunne ha ffirrom bare på den ene siden av treskerommet. Fjøs Fra gammelt av skulle de ulike dyreslag ha hvert sitt hus. Fra 1700-tallet ble de enkelte husene satt sammen på forskjellig vis. De enkleste sammenbygningene besto av uthus med fjøs i den ene enden og løe i den andre, adskilt av skåle. Sauefiøs og geitefiøs var ofte bygget under ett tak, men adskilt med vegg. Sau og geit skulle ha forskjellig fôr. Badstue / Tørkehus Denne hustypen ble brukt for tørking av tresket korn, malt og lin, som oftest bygget et stykke fra de andre husene på gården pga. brannfaren. Inngangen var nesten alltid i gavlveggen, ofte beskyttet av fremskutte vegger og tak. Ovnen besto av en murt steinovn midt i rommet, ofte uten egen røykutgang. Potetkjeller Som oftest bygget i gråstein og helt eller delvis nedgravd i naturlige frostsikre bakker. Potetkjellere var vanlig en periode fra ca. 1800 og til en fikk egne rom for mat under stuehusene. Smie Smia ble som regel bygget et stykke fra innhusene, og besto som regel bare av et rom med essen sentralt plassert midt på gulvet. Senere ble det installert grue med pipe. ANDRE UTHUS Til gården hørte en rekke mindre uthus og buer med ulike funksjoner, og ved kyst, elver og vann sjøbuer av ulike slag. Bua eller sjobua hørte med blandt de husene som sto nær sjøen. Bua var både en arbeidsplass og et hus for oppbevaring av redskap. Buene var i eldre tid laftet, senere oppført i bindingsverk. Langs Sørlandskysten dominerer buene, naust ser en sjelden. Det har nok sammenheng med båttypene, som er tyngre enn ellers i landet, og at båtene ligger på sjøen det meste av året. Buene på Sørlandet kan ha flere rom og var ofte to-delt. Det ene rommet ble kalt "egnebua". Det kunne varmes opp, og her stelte en med fiskeredskapen, egnet bakker o.l. Det andre rommet ble kalt garnbua.
