Abstract<br />

Introduction: Glucocorticoids (GC) play an important role in <strong>de</strong>termining the distribution<br />

of adipose tissue and metabolism. Individuals with endogenous or exogenous<br />

hypercortisolism <strong>de</strong>velop a pattern of central obesity, which is reversible after treatment or<br />

withdrawal of glucocorticoids. The mechanisms involved in the distribution of adipose<br />

tissue mediated by glucocorticoids are not fully un<strong>de</strong>rstood. The objective of this study was<br />

to quantify and evaluate the effects of chronic exposure to hypercortisolism on kinin B1<br />

and B2 receptors expression in subcutaneous and visceral fat <strong>de</strong>position in patients with<br />

Cushing's syndrome. Method: Samples of subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and visceral<br />

adipose tissue (VAT) were obtained during elective abdominal surgery in female patients<br />

with Cushing's syndrome (n = 5), in which the body mass in<strong>de</strong>x (BMI), waist<br />

circumference (WC) and salivary cortisol (SC) were <strong>de</strong>termined. The mRNA expression of<br />

B1 and B2 receptors were quantified by Real-time PCR. Results: The expression of kinin<br />

B1 receptor was markedly increased in VAT than in SAT of patients with Cushing’s<br />

syndrome (p
