infectado. Este é o primeiro relato de hospedeiros paratênicos de D. renale no Brasil e,
provavelmente, também é o primeiro na região Neotropical.
ABSTRACT - Dioctophyme renale larvae have been found in cysts surrounded by mild
granulomatous reaction in the gastric wall of 5.17% (3/58) Chaunus ictericus specimens
from São Cristóvão district, Três Barras municipality, Santa Catarina State, Brazil.
However, larvae of this nematode were not found neither in Chaunus schneideri from
the same region nor in analyzed fish of the orders Siluriformes, Characiformes and
Perciformes. The nematode larvae were immunostained in tissue of paratenic host by
methods of immunohistochemistry and indirect immunofluorescence in tissues, using
sera from mice immunized with antigen produced from the esophagus of adults of D.
renale. The larvae of this parasite obtained from C. ictericus was able to reach
adulthood in a dog experimentally infected. This is the first report of paratenic hosts for
D. renale in Brazil, and probably is also the first in the Neotropical region.
Key words: Dioctophyme renale, larvae, morphology, Chaunus ictericus, paratenic
1. INTRODUÇÃO
Dioctophyme renale é um nematódeo parasito do rim de carnívoros domésticos e
silvestres no Brasil. Pode ser observado erraticamente na cavidade peritoneal,
especialmente em canídeos, e, raramente, ocorre em outros órgãos e tecidos
(MEASURES, 2001). Sua epidemiologia envolve um ciclo evolutivo complexo, em que
