A 11ª edição do Campo Nacional de Férias
dos Estudantes Universitários (CANFEU)
realizou-se na província do Zaire, entre os dias
25 de Fevereiro e 3 de Março. O evento contou
com a presença de mais de 1500 jovens de
diferentes associações juvenis.
The 11th edition of the National Holiday Camp
for University Students (Campo Nacional
de Férias dos Estudantes Universitários -
CANFEU) was held in Zaire province, between
the 25th February and March, 3rd. The event
was attended by over 1,500 young people from
different youth associations.

/ Exportações de petróleo com recorde histórico

As exportações de petróleo vão aproximar-se, em Maio, do nível recorde alcançado em Agosto
do ano passado, quando foi vendido o correspondente a 1,831 milhões de barris diários. Segundo
a Bloomberg, Angola já assegurou para Maio a venda de 56.740 milhões de barris, o que
corresponde a 1,830 milhões de barris diários. Referir que as vendas confirmadas de petróleo
angolano em Abril totalizaram 52.900 milhões de barris, o equivalente a 1.760 milhões de barris
diários. Já a Reuters, que cita um operador do mercado de compra e venda de petróleo, refere
que metade do petróleo angolano exportado em Maio tem como destino a China.

O Executivo tem um ambicioso plano com projectos integrados de infra-
-estruturas e que envolvem as províncias de Luanda, Benguela, Kwanza
Sul, Malanje, Zaire, Cunene e Cabinda. Os projectos em causa, que irão
decorrer até 2036, têm como objectivo integrar acções que passam pela
requalificação do sistema de fornecimento de energia eléctrica, águas,
estradas e transportes, entre outros.
The Executive has an ambitious plan with integrated infrastructure projects
which involve the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, South Kwanza,
Malanje, Zaire, Cabinda and Cunene. The projects in question, which will
run until 2036, aim to integrate actions that pass through the rehabilitation
of the providing systems of electricity, water, roads and transportation,
among others.
/ Executivo aposta na exploração mineira
Executive bets on mining
O governo angolano pretende transformar o sector mineiro num dos principais
contribuintes para os cofres do Estado e torná-lo numa das maiores
fontes de emprego, com “repercussões directas na melhoria das condições
de vida da população”, garantia dada pelo ministro da Geologia e
Minas, Francisco Queiroz. Segundo o governante, dentro desta estratégia,
é necessário diversificar a exploração mineira, aumentar as receitas fiscais
e patrimoniais do Estado e incrementar o investimento social.
The Angolan government plans to transform the mining sector into a
major contributor to the State coffers and turn it into one of the largest
sources of employment, with "direct impact on improving the living conditions
of the population", an assurance given by the Minister of Geology
and Mines Francisco Queiroz. According to the minister, in this strategy,
it is necessary to diversify the mining, increase tax and patrimonial revenues
and improve the State's social investment.
/ BAD financia estudo sobre diversificação da economia
ADB funds study on economic diversification
O Banco Africano de Desenvolvimento (BAD) vai financiar um estudo sobre
a diversificação da economia angolana. Segundo Cetin Martin, representante
da instituição em Angola, a mesma quer ajudar o governo a
encontrar, através de estudos, os obstáculos da diversificação da economia
e soluções para ultrapassá-los. Sem falar em datas, o responsável
adiantou que o banco vai realizar um fórum para abordar questões relacionadas
com a diversificação do sector económico.
The African Development Bank (ADB) will fund a study on the diversification
of the Angolan economy. According to Cetin Martin, representative of the
institution in Angola, the aim is to help the government to find, through studies,
the obstacles of diversifying the economy and solutions to overcome
them. Not to mention dates, the official said that the bank will hold a forum
to address issues related to the diversification of the economic sector.
/ Cuca Mini chega ao mercado
Mini Cuca reaches the market
A Cuca, que em 2012 celebrou 60 anos de existência, sendo a cerveja favorita
dos angolanos, passa a ter mais um formato. A Cuca Mini, em
garrafa de 25 cl, continua com a qualidade e o sabor de sempre e
mantém a forma de abertura fácil e inovadora da irmã mais velha
(31 cl). Em comunicado, a empresa adiantou que com o lançamento
da Cuca Mini, que será produzida em território nacional com
recursos humanos e tecnológicos de topo, o grupo Castel consolida
a liderança no sector cervejeiro de Angola.

Angola precisa de 2,3 milhões de quadros até 2020 para corresponder às
necessidades de desenvolvimento dos pontos prioritários da sua economia.
Na opinião do economista Manuel Nunes Júnior, os recursos humanos
em causa serão formados para dar resposta às necessidades do desenvolvimento
dos grandes grupos da economia, como os mega “cluster” da
geologia, minas e indústria, do petróleo e gás natural, da energia e águas,
das florestas, da habitação, do turismo e lazer, da saúde, da educação e cultura,
dos transportes e logística e das actividades financeiras. Actualmente,
o país possui 1,2 milhões de quadros, entre dirigentes, gestores, técnicos
superiores e médios. Um valor que deverá duplicar nos próximos sete anos.

As Reservas Internacionais Líquidas (RIL) de Angola
devem rondar, em 2013, os quatro triliões de kwanzas, revelou
o economista Manuel Nunes Júnior. De acordo com o
docente da Faculdade de Economia da Universidade Agostinho
Neto, prevê-se que as RIL cheguem aos cinco triliões kwanzas
dentro de cinco anos (no final de 2017), sendo que no ano passado
chegaram aos três triliões de kwanzas. “As importações são uma
forma do país financiar a criação de novos empregos
noutras partes do mundo e não em Angola”,
disse o economista, salientando que o incremento
da produção nacional potenciará
a criação de empregos,

The Angolan Net International Reserves (NIR) of

do Estado, dada a capacidade da floresta nativa do país. Para o
responsável, a capacidade da floresta nativa angolana é de 360
metros cúbicos/ano, sendo que apenas são explorados entre 60
a 70 metros cúbicos, número muito abaixo do potencial. Uma situação
que representa perdas económicas na ordem dos 15 biliões

revelou que os Emirados Árabes Unidos (EAU)
pretendem que a Transportadora Aérea Angolana
(TAAG) aumente a frequência de voos para aquele
destino, para que seja possível aumentar as trocas
comerciais entres os dois países. Gourgel, que se
reuniu com o ministro dos Negócios Estrangeiros
dos EAU, o xeique Bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
adiantou que o número de voos pode

intend that the Angolan Airlines (TAAG) increase
the frequency of flights to that destination, in order

musicians of this country, Gilberto Gil has visited Egypt on
the past 21st March. The artist was one of the highlights of
the 5th edition of the Jazz Festival, in Cairo. Rock, reggae and
Brazilian popular music were the ingredients that made the
Egyptian public thrill on the Al Azhnar Park.

A Unitel venceu o concurso para se tornar a segunda operadora de telecomunicações
em São Tomé e Príncipe. De acordo com a representante
do Banco Mundial (BM) para o sector, Isabel Neto, trata-se de
uma candidatura “tecnicamente competente”. “Está-se neste momento
à espera de finalizar as formalidades, nomeadamente a entrega de uma
garantia bancária por parte da Unitel”, adiantou a responsável, no final
de uma audiência com o presidente da Assembleia Nacional, Alcino
Pinto. As duas partes discutiram a necessidade de se assegurar "uma
concorrência efectiva”, bem como outros aspectos ligados ao direito do
consumidor.

que a Nigéria tem neste domínio e ajudar a desenvolver o sector

Quanto custa abrir uma empresa em Cabo
Verde Um escudo: 0,0009 euros/0,011 dólares.
Este é, desde 13 de Março, o valor mínimo
de capital social de uma empresa. Trata-se de
uma medida que visa incentivar o sector privado,
segundo o primeiro-ministro cabo-verdiano
José Maria Neves. “Queremos facilitar
a criação de empresas e ter um ambiente de
negócios favorecedor da realização de investimentos.
A limitação legal que havia na criação
das empresas em termos de realização de capital
(2,5 milhões de escudos/2,6 mil euros/3,3
mil dólares) era um obstáculo”, admitiu o governante.

adjudicação de duas obras em Moçambique
para o conglomerado industrial brasileiro Vale
do Rio Doce, no valor conjunto de cerca de 228
milhões de dólares. As duas empreitadas dizem
respeito à requalificação do corredor ferroviário
de Nacala, sendo que o prazo para a execução
dos dois troços é de 22 meses nas secções “6
+ 7.1” e de 17 meses na secção “7.2”. Em comunicado,
a Somague adiantou que “as obras
dizem respeito à reabilitação da infra-estrutura
e super-estrutura ferroviária da linha de Nacala,
numa extensão de aproximadamente 600 quilómetros,
no corredor de Nacala".

A revista África Today completa 100 edições. Para
assinalar o número redondo, nada melhor que
uma entrevista de fundo à principal responsável
pelas folhas que agora agarramos. Cláudia
Cardoso, licenciada em Direito, é a directora da
publicação e, nas páginas seguintes, fala-nos de
tudo: jornalismo, Angola, o papel da mulher na
sociedade, as novas plataformas digitais e…do
pai, fonte de inspiração, agora e sempre.
Formou-se em Direito, mas acabou por singrar no jornalismo,
apresentando ao mundo, desde 2005, a revista
África Today, a qual dirige há mais de oito anos. É do conhecimento
público que seguiu as pegadas do seu pai,
Albérico Cardoso, fundador da revista África Hoje e de
outras publicações ligadas à Lusofonia. De que forma a
figura paterna influenciou o seu percurso profissional
O meu pai foi um humanista na verdadeira acepção da palavra.
Um homem que pensava e agia em função do seu
semelhante. Tinha sempre uma palavra de apreço
e incentivo. Era um comunicador nato, e a sua
capacidade de entender o ser humano e os movimentos
políticos, desde os tempos da luta
pela libertação nacional, aos tempos da afirmação
da soberania em especial dos países
africanos de língua portuguesa, deu-lhe
uma visão ampla. Foi um homem que viveu
intensamente, permitindo-nos a nós,
filhas, beber da sua sabedoria e participar
do seu raio de acção em prol da comunidade
de língua portuguesa pelo que, naturalmente,
moldei a minha personalidade à sua semelhança,
acabando por seguir as suas pisadas. Tal como
o meu pai, licenciei-me em Direito e, desde cedo, abracei as
mesmas causas. Com o seu desaparecimento, tornou-se para
mim inevitável dar continuidade aos seus projectos editoriais.

De que forma
Cláudia Cardoso: Compreendendo que a comunicação social
é uma poderosa ferramenta de aproximação das pessoas,
partilha de valores e acções, é notório que somos um veículo
respeitado. O nosso trabalho como editores persistentes
permite a valorização dos sujeitos activos da sociedade, dos
homens e mulheres com iniciativa, quer sejam dirigentes políticos,
agentes culturais, económicos ou desportivos. Valorizamos,
ainda, a própria comunicação social.

To point out the round number, nothing better than
a deep interview to the main responsible by the
pages that we are now grabbing. Cláudia Cardoso,
graduated in Law, is the Director of the publication
and, on the following pages, tells us about everything:
journalism, Angola, the role of the Woman in the
society, the new digital platforms and… her father,

You have graduated in Law, but ended up succeeding
in journalism, presenting to the world, since 2005, the
Africa Today magazine, which you have led for over eight
years. It is public knowledge that you have followed your
father’s footsteps, Albérico Cardoso, the founder of the
Africa Hoje magazine and of other publications related
to Lusophony. How did the father figure influence your
professional career
My father was a humanist in the truest sense of the word. A
man who thought and acted on behalf of his fellow.
He always had a word of appreciation and encouragement.
He was a born communicator, and
his ability to understand the human being
and the political movements, since the days
of the struggle for the national liberation, to
the days of the assertion of the sovereignty
especially of the Portuguese-speaking African
countries, gave him a wide view. He
was a man who lived intensely, enabling us,
his daughters, to drink from his wisdom and
to participate in his radius of action in favor
of the Portuguese-speaking community so that,
naturally, I molded my personality to his similarity,
ending up following his footsteps. Just like my father, I graduated
in Law and early on, I embraced the same causes. With
his disappearance, it became inevitable for me to continue his
publishing projects.
África Today: Do you feel that, somehow, your profession
and your work are important to the society In which
way
Cláudia Cardoso: Understanding that the media is a powerful
tool in bringing people together, sharing values and
actions, it is clear that we are a respected vehicle. Our work
as persistent editors enables the appreciation of the active
participants of the society, men and women with initiative,
whether they are political leaders or cultural or economic
agents. We also value the media itself.

agora 11 anos. Trabalhar em comunicação num país em desenvolvimento,
com todas as possibilidades de se tornar uma
nação exemplar, é de facto um enorme privilégio. Vivemos e
participamos em momentos históricos da Nação Angolana.
Quais os desafios para trazer a público uma revista
mensal com mais de 100 páginas e com a responsabilidade
social que a África Today possui na sociedade
Para uma publicação mensal, o principal desafio é acompanhar
a dinâmica de expansão e ser selectivo. Os custos de
produção ainda são muito elevados. Mas temos apostado na
produção em território nacional.
Como definiria o leitor típico e actual da África Today
Não existe um leitor típico da África Today. Somos transversais.
Somos lidos e acompanhados atentamente por um universo
de fiéis leitores. Desde os estudantes universitários aos
dirigentes políticos, líderes económicos, diplomatas, homens e
mulheres de cultura. Com a edição digital e online, acabamos
ainda por ir conquistando um público leitor mais flutuante
noutros países.
Acredita que a revista tem tido um contributo importante
na formação dos angolanos
A África Today edita com zelo toda a informação que publica.
Procuramos fontes originais e a edição de textos é criteriosa.
Os nossos conteúdos são ricos, oferecendo ao público leitor

Angola conquered the peace. Working on communication in
a developing country, with all the possibilities of becoming
an exemplary nation is, in fact, an enormous privilege. We
live and we participate in historical moments of the Angolan
Nation.
What are the challenges to bring out to public a monthly
magazine with more than one hundred pages and with
the social responsibility that Africa Today has in the
society
For a monthly publication, the main challenge is to accompany
the expansion dynamics and to be selective. The production
costs are still very high. But we have invested in production in
national territory.
How would you define the typical and current reader of
Africa Today
There is not a typical reader of Africa Today. We are transversal.
We are read and attentively followed by a universe of loyal
readers. From college students to political leaders, economic
leaders, diplomats, gentlemen and ladies of culture. With the
digital and online edition, we also end up conquering a more
buoyant reading public in other countries.
Do you believe that the magazine has been having an
important contribution in the training of the Angolans
Africa Today edits with zeal all the information that it publishes.
We seek original sources and the editing of texts is
judicious. Our contents are rich, offering a differentiated product
to the reading public. We encourage knowledge, and also
promote both the Portuguese and the English language. I see
many young people using the magazine as a learning tool.
What do you enjoy the most in the magazine you lead
Our ability to create. Each edition is a new challenge. Each
magazine we publish is always special.
What would you like to see done in Africa Today that you
haven’t achieved yet
I would like to launch specialized magazines and to
create a network of correspondents throughout
Angola.
Tell us a curious episode related to
the magazine.
The episodes are immense. I confess
that the most significant are related
to the memory of my father,
and our mentor. Our presence as
a publication always gives rise to
the reencounter with personalities
and friends who have lived with
Albérico Cardoso. Not infrequently,
the tears outcrop the eyes of this
people, who remember with affection
the friend and the man who gave
voice and a top place to the Portuguese
Language Community. For us, it is very
rewarding, both professionally as personally.

Angola no Campeonato
Mundial
de Futebol. O nosso
enviado especial fez
uma reportagem muito
interessante. Estávamos
em fecho da edição, impunha-
-se uma decisão relativamente à capa. O
jogador Flávio houvera marcado o golo que
deu o passaporte da Selecção angolana para
o Campeonato do Mundo, e pese o técnico
principal não o colocar a jogar, apostámos em
fazer a capa com o Flávio. A edição saiu exactamente
na altura em que o Flávio entrou e
marcou o golo de honra de Angola! A edição
foi um êxito!
E a entrevista
Houve uma entrevista que considero muito
especial, quando nos deslocámos a Paris para
visitar Manu Dibango. Já com mais de setenta
anos, estava numa fase não muito disponível.
Fizemos a entrevista e acabou por aceitar
o nosso convite para se deslocar a Angola em
2008, onde concedeu inúmeras outras entrevistas
e realizou um concerto memorável no
Miami, partilhando ainda alguns momentos
com o nosso Presidente José Eduardo dos
Santos, a quem ofereceu um saxofone.

Which reportage
has made you
more proud in

There would
also be many
cases to refer
in this regard.
But I highlight
in 2006 the
participation
of Angola in the
Football World
Cup. Our correspondent
made a very
interesting reportage.
We were closing the edition,
a decision on the cover was
essential. The player Flávio had scored the
goal that gave the Angolan National Team
the passport to the World Cup, and although
the head coach did not put him to play, we
bet on making the cover with Flávio. The edition
came out exactly at the time when Flávio
entered and scored Angola’s honor goal! The
issue was a success!
And the interview
There was an interview that I consider very
special, when we travelled to Paris to visit
Manu Dibango. Already with more than seventy
years old, he was in a somewhat less
available phase. We did the interview and he
ended up accepting our invitation to travel
to Angola in 2008, where he bestowed uncountable
other interviews and performed
a memorable concert in the Miami, also sharing
a few moments with our President José
Eduardo dos Santos, to whom he offered a
saxophone.

collective consciousness of a Nation.
A concorrência tem aumentado ano após ano. Como

A concorrência é muito salutar, e esta afirmação não é retórica.
A existência de mais e bons projectos editoriais ajuda-nos a
afirmarmos de forma mais coesa o nosso papel preponderante
na sociedade.
Tem sido associada a eventos que destacam e evidenciam
o papel da mulher na sociedade angolana. Que
mensagem costuma transmitir nesse tipo de iniciativa
Considero que continua a ser importante persistir na valorização
da mulher, no respeito pela diferença e promoção da
educação das jovens. A mulher é a charneira do lar, mas é
também uma profissional, num mundo cada vez mais exigente
e competitivo. A minha mensagem é a de que deve ser
atribuído um cada vez maior reconhecimento às mulheres
empreendedoras, bem como proporcionadas mais e melhores

Our persistence and spirit of mission. We know that our magazine
is a reference that we want to honor.
How can people permanently innovate in an area like
communication
By being observant and with originality. By creating the news
and outstanding issues. The ability to innovate is an attitude
that can only be achieved with talent and professionalism,
but above all with the permanent renewal of the love for our
work, which can be applied to all dimensions of our life.
When you founded Africa Today you immediately invested
in a partially bilingual publication and since 2012 the
magazine is fully bilingual. What, in your opinion, are the
advantages of having a bilingual magazine
With the advent of Peace, Angola has opened up to the World,

Tendo em conta que a sua revista

Por altura dos anos 90, em inúmeras conferências
a que assisti, professores universitários,
profissionais da comunicação
referiam abundantemente o termo “Aldeia
Global”. Recordo-me em particular, do saudoso
Rui Romano. Nessa época esse tema era para nós
mais teórico, que prático. Mas em curtos anos, revelou-
-se um facto a considerar. As plataformas digitais são ferramentas
muito úteis e que complementam o nosso trabalho
de campo. A sua enorme vantagem competitiva é alargar as
nossas fronteiras de comunicação e o tempo útil das notícias.

Há, inclusivamente, quem defenda que o
formato tradicional de uma redacção tem
os dias contados. Concorda com essa

Concordo que devemos ser complementares.
A África Today é um bom exemplo. Temos
uma redacção em Lisboa e outra em Luanda.
Alguns dos nossos profissionais nem
sequer se conhecem pessoalmente, no entanto,
trabalham em conjunto, existe espírito de equipa

I believe that remains being important to

na moda. A CPLP é vista como uma comunidade
activa, à qual outros países tradicionalmente
não lusófonos pretendem juntar-se. Os
países que compõem a Lusofonia assumem
os seus destinos de forma independente, e a
visão de força conjunta já está assimilada. Esse
facto é uma realidade nas trocas comerciais,
na cooperação ao nível político e conferências
nos mais variados domínios.

opinion about this phenomenon
By the time of the 90s, in many conferences
I attended, university professors, media
professionals abundantly referred the term
“Global Village”. I especially recall the wistful
Rui Romano. By that time this issue was
more theoretical than practical for us. But
in few years, it has proved to be a fact
to consider. The digital platforms are
very useful tools which complement
our fieldwork. Its huge competitive
advantage is to enlarge our communication
borders and the timely of
the news. By making use of the traditional
and digital routes we are an
undeniable vehicle.
There are, even, those who argue
that the traditional format of an editorial
office has its days counted. Do you
agree with this view
I agree that we should be complementary.
Africa Today is a good example. We have an
editorial office in Lisbon and another in Luanda.
Some of our staff do not even know
one another in person, however, they work
together, there is team spirit and we take advantage
of these two platforms.
Do you feel professionally fulfilled
Conquering one hundred editions under my
management reflects our responsibility, our
commitment and ability to perform.
Angola, Portugal, Mozambique, Cape
Verde… Lusophony is always very present
in the magazine. What is your opinion
about the issue
Lusophony is not the trendy cause anymore,
but it is in vogue. The CPLP is seen as an active
community, to which other traditionally
non-Lusophone countries intend to join. The
countries that compose the Lusophony take
their destinies independently, and the view
of joint strength is already assimilated. This
fact is a reality in the commercial trade, in
political cooperation and in conferences in
several domains.
What do you feel after conquering 100
editions of the Africa Today magazine
And what can we expect for the future
Angola assumes more and more a clear and
natural leadership in its geographic region,
but also in the Lusophony context. Africa Today
gathers all the characteristics and conditions
to be assumed as a powerful communication
tool that accompanies that leadership.
