are dying untimely. My entire effort is going waste. My sin is
the reason for which my subjects are suffering despite my being
the King". Formerly, Kings used to view famine, epidemic and
distress of the public as the reflection of their own sins.
It is mentioned in Ramayan that the son of a Brahmin died
as a child. Brahmin took the dead child to Ramchanderji and said
"What sin you have committed that my son has died "
It appears from this that formerly Kings used consider the
distress of their subjects as their sin. In accordance with this spirit,
King Ashwasen considered the spread of the spidemic mari as his
fault and was feeling sa. He went into seclusion and decided that
he would abandon food and water till the distress of his subjects
was removed.
Strong determination has considerable power. Devotee
Tukaram has saidi.e.
Success is not possible without determination.
After such determination Ashwasen sat down in meditation.
when it was the time for meal, Achla sent her maid t fetch King for
his meal. The maid went out, but hesitated on seeing him seating in
meditation posture. How could she dare to disturb him in his meditation
She returned after calling him in very low voice. After that
second came and then the third came but none had the courage to
disturb him in his meditation. Queen Achla felt repentant on having
sent her maids and said "It was not appropriate to have sent
maids to fetch the Lord. I should have personally gone. Although
I have not committed the error of taking meal prior to my husband,
but I have surely committed the mistake of sending maids
instead of going myself to fetch him".
Due to passage of time, the meal had become cold. therefore,
queen Achla ordered the maids to prepare fresh meal and
she herself went near the King.
