FOREWORD The National Prize for Architecture in Wood has its first edition in 2011 and emerged as a joint initiative of several organisations as part of this year’s celebrations of the International Year of Forests. This first edition of the National Prize for Architecture in Wood accepted as candidates all architects with projects built between 2008 and 2011 in Portugal, where the use of wood was evident. Based on criteria of functionality, sustainability, creativity, innovation, versatility, manipulation of materiality, use of domestic workforce and raw materials, construction techniques and aesthetic quality, the jury considered all applications and selected 20 finalists.
