SÉRGIO VIDAL<br />
O pintor Vidal nasceu em 1945, na Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro. Filho de músicos,<br />
iniciou-se na música com o piano. Começou a trabalhar aos 12 anos, em um<br />
laboratório fotográfico; foi para uma oficina mecânica, tornou-se técnico em<br />
metalurgia e estudou usinagem mecânica.<br />
Seu primeiro contato com a pintura foi no atelier do pintor Heitor dos Prazeres,<br />
quando descobriu que “era isso que queria fazer: Contar histórias através<br />
de imagens, comentar a vida através da pintura.” Conviveu com pintores<br />
como Mestre Gildemberg, Roberto Griot, Maricha, Holmes Neves, Heitor dos<br />
Prazeres Filho, Fernando V da Silva, Di Cavalcanti, Naval, Widman Frans,<br />
Rubens Gerchman. Participou de uma exposição pela primeira vez em 1972.<br />
Aos 51 anos, ingressou na Escola de Filosofia da UERJ.<br />
Participa da coleção de museus como: Museu da Fundação Álvares Penteado –<br />
FAAP, Museu <strong>Afro</strong> Brasil e Museu de Belas Artes de Boston (USA)<br />
Painter Sérgio Vidal da Rocha was born in 1945 in the neighborhood of<br />
Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro. Son of musicians, he was introduced to music through<br />
the piano. His first job was at a photo laboratory, when he was twelve. Then he<br />
worked for a car repair shop, became qualified as a metallurgy technician and<br />
studied mechanical machining.<br />
His first contact with painting was at Heitor dos Prazeres’s studio, where he<br />
discovered that painting was what he really wanted to do. According to him,<br />
he wanted to “tell stories through images, show my life perspective through<br />
painting.” He was close to artists such as MestreGildemberg, R.Griot, Maricha,<br />
Holmes Neves, Heitor dos PrazeresFilho, Fernando V. da Silva, Di Cavalcanti,<br />
Naval, Widman Frans, R. Gerchman. His first participation in a painting<br />
exhibition was in 1972. When he was 51, he enrolled in the School of Philosophy<br />
at the State University of Rio de Janeiro.<br />
