Unidos, Estados Unidos e Brasil. A ideia nasceu

canadense. Com seu esforço, ele conseguiu recursos

The Terry Fox Run is a traditional event in Canada and

it also happens in many other places, such as Cuba,

Hong Kong, Vietnam, UAE, USA and Brazil. The idea

was born with the trajectory of Terrance Stanley Fox

– a Canadian who loved basketball and cross-country

racing who, at 19, was diagnosed with osteogenic

sarcoma – a rare type of bone cancer – and, as part of

the treatment, had to have one of his legs amputated.

During 16 months of chemotherapy, Terry noticed

the lack of research funds invested into studies and

treatments against cancer. Outraged, the young

man had the idea to run a marathon through the

whole country, gaining the population’s attention

and raising awareness about the importance of

donating resources to the fight against the disease

that stroke him and millions of other young people.

In April 12 1980, using a prosthetics in place of the

amputated leg, Terry started the Marathon of Hope,

starting in St. John’s, in the province of Newfoundland,

with the goal of raising one dollar for each one of the 22

million Canadians. With his effort, he raised resources

for researches and treatments against cancer. An

example of citizenship Maple Bear honors until today.
