Possible solutions to the trinome:
lasting development-tourism-rural area

Today, more and more components of the human existence strive for
precise, almost mathematical solutions. Although in every day life things
could be expressed in a mathematical form, complexity in fact largely
exceeds the power of our imagination. Still worth mentioning is this
concern for continuity, which among others has taken the shape of the
sustainable development concept. This is the very reason why we think that
among the multitude of domains involved in the sustainable development of
the human society – and of the planet itself, two are connected in a close
interrelationship. We are talking about tourism – at least as a means of work
capacity regeneration, and about the rural area – as an increasingly claimed
solution for the holidays of the modern man, especially of that who lives in
urban areas.
In what concerns the sustainable development – tourism – rural area
trinome, we think that in Romania ecotourism could be the solution, by
observing yet certain amendments: the active and orchestrated involvement
of the government representatives, of the universities, of the environment
conservation groups and of the tour operators, in order to highlight the
necessity of defending, protecting and preserving the nature, the ecosystems
and of respecting the balance in the zones of the “host communities”. It is
well known that ecotourism means that tourist and economic activities are
carried out in a pleasant, non-polluting environment with relaxing and
unaltered sights. Performing ecotourism requires the protection of the
tourist areas and resources that are aimed at being admired, studied, used for
physical and psychical recreation, not for destruction. Yet the ecotouristic
activity implies that besides it being placed in the sustainable development
area, it also assists in developing the economy, by generating development
strategies that are able to support the country in its transition period.
Therefore better campaigns of information, communication, education and
recognition are recommended, for to make tourism a pillar of sustainable
development, and not a threat.
