Abstract<br />

The purpose of this thesis was to design two structure frames in different materials for<br />

a building of approximately 450 m 2 . One structure was designed entirely in wood and<br />

the other entirely in steel. The mechanics and the roof trusses of the steel frame were<br />

calculated in Autodesk Robot 2010. The dimensions for the wooden frame and the<br />

foundations were calculated by hand. A 3D-model of the steel frame was made by<br />

using Tekla Structures 16. The cost comparison is made as a building part comparison<br />

using the book Rakennusosien kustannuksia. In the cost comparison the wooden<br />

structure was shown to be the cheapest.<br />
