snowmobiles are a fantastic way of
experiencing norrland’s countryside.
As you travel quickly and easily
across the snow-covered landscape,
you may see elk and reindeer. People
who do not like engines may
prefer to try a different sort of
horse power! From the back of a
horse, you can enjoy the winter
scenes at a slightly more relaxed
pace. the region’s trekking companies
have gentle sure-footed horses.
trips are always tailored to the
group’s abilities. A list of organisations
offering snowmobile trips and
horse trekking is given in the quick

feel THe RuSH
of a dog Sled RIde
one way of getting really close to
the beautiful winter landscape is to
go dog team sledging. the eager
dogs will take you out into the
wilds at a great pace and you can
choose whether you want to master
the dogs yourself or just enjoy
the ride as a passenger. there are
many arrangers of dog team rides in
the umeå region. there is a list of
these in the quick guide on page 25.

longs to change settings, experience
something completely different for
a few days. simply relax with the
family, enjoy adventures with

large number of places offering

In THe umeÅ RegIon
the umeå region has a large selection
of ski facilities (the season is
december to April). in central
umeå, Bräntberget is the home
slope of swedish ski star maria Pietilä-holmner.
Within a 1 1/2-hour
car journey of umeå, there are several
more ski facilities. the slopes
have well prepared runs of varying
degrees of difficulty. some of the
facilities hire out ski equipment.
refreshments are available at all
the slopes and the majority can
even offer good cross-country skiing.
the larger facilities can also
provide nearby accommodation.
geT ouT onTo THe SkI TRaIlS
skiing is a very popular pastime in
the region which means there are
many good ski tracks to choose
from. rent cross country skis at First
Camp umeå or iKsu sport, umeå.
