ANTAKYA CASTLE
AND SURS
Küçükdalyan’da tekrar nehre ka-
founded by Seleucos I Nicator,
one of the generals of Alexander
the Great in 300 BC, is among the
important structures of the world.
It was used by the Seleucids,
Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders,
Seljuks and Ottomans respectively.
It is thought that the walls, which
are 12 kilometers long, consist of
360 towers. It was devastated by
countless earthquakes and wars.
Most of the walls that survive
today were built by the Byzantine
Emperor Justianus in the 6th cenfrom
the edge of the Asi River
and wandered between the Silpius
mountains and reached the river
again in Küçükdalyan. Now there
are only parts of Silpius Mountain

Paul) in the north, Demir Gate
in the east, Damascus Gate in the
south, Bridge Gate in the west and
Dog Gate in the northwest.
