Different role of capsules!
Dilara Cica
From the editor
Although one of the dosage forms of the drug comes to mind when we think of
capsules, this time it appears as a device. This wireless device, which consists
of a microchip and battery, used in certain bleeding that cannot be detected,
is among the advanced technologies, different from normal endoscopy. The
most important feature of capsule endoscopy is that while standard devices
provide two images per second, this number can go up to 18 with advanced
capsule technology. At the same time, being a painless method is among the
most striking features. This device, which technically shows the entire digestive
network, also plays a very active role in the small intestines.
We covered the need not to be negligent against gastritis and ulcer disease,
the 12 important risk factors of stomach cancer, and the consequences of
unprepared sports without considering health in this issue of our magazine.
I hope that we have been able to convey usefully what kind of consequences
negligence causes and that action should be taken before it is too late. I wish you
to be one of those who always look at life positively and take care of yourself…
We congratulate all our healthcare workers on March 14 Medicine Day.
Wishing you all a healthy and happy days!
Hayata her
zaman pozitif bakıp, kendinize dikkat edenlerden olmanız dileğiyle…
Happy 14 March Medicine Day!
14 Mart Tıp Bayramı kutlu olsun!
The beginning of the celebration of the Medicine
Day on March 14 and the week it is in, in 1827 II.
It dates back to the reign of Mahmud. The main
theme in the emergence of the Medicine Day
seems to have emerged with the aim of improving
the living conditions of health workers and
encouraging better service to patients. When we
think about the recent violence against our health
care workers, it is clear how much the field of
medicine festival needs to be expanded. In
other words, increases in trained human
migration, in other words, brain drain,
are at alarming levels. The need for
our retired healthcare workers and
their re-invitation to duty shows
that there are important steps to
be taken in the field of health. The
support they deserve should be
given more than enough to
the healthcare workers
who successfully perform
their duties under difficult
conditions by making
extraordinary sacrifices.
As the team of Medikal
Teknik magazine, we
congratulate our healthcare
workers on March 14
Medicine Day. We will be at
Expomed Eurasia between
17 and 19 March 2022 with
our March 2022 issue. We
welcome our industry
stakeholders to our stand.
Until we meet in our April
2022 issue, stay safe.
Tıp bayramının 14 Mart günü ve içinde bulunduğu haftada
kutlanmaya başlanması, 1827 yılı II. Mahmut dönemine
dayanmakta. Tıp bayramının ortaya çıkmasındaki
ana tema, sağlık çalışanlarının yaşam koşullarının
iyileştirilmesi ve hastalara daha iyi hizmet verilebilmesini
teşvik etmek amacıyla ortaya çıktığı görülüyor. Yakın
zamanda sağlık çalışanlarımıza uygulanan şiddeti
düşündüğümüzde tıp bayramı alanının genişletilmesine
ne kadar ihtiyaç olduğu bütün çıplaklığıyla ortada…
Başta hekimlerimiz olmak üzere sağlık çalışanlarımızın
mesleklerini yurt dışında icra etmek için yurt dışına
çıkışları ise, oldukça dikkat çekici. Yani, yetişmiş
insan göçü diğer bir tabirle beyin göçündeki
artışlar endişe verici boyutlarda. Emekli sağlık
çalışanlarımıza ihtiyaç duyulması ve yeniden
göreve davet edilmeleri sağlık alanında atılması
gereken önemli adımlar olduğunu gösteriyor.
Olağanüstü fedakarlıklar göstererek, zor
şartlarda görevlerini başarıyla yerine
getiren sağlık çalışanlarına hak
ettikleri destekler fazlasıyla verilmeli.
Medikal Teknik dergisi ekibi olarak,
sağlık çalışanlarımızın 14 Mart Tıp
Bayramı’nı tebrik ederiz. Mart
2022 sayımızla, 17-19 Mart 2022
tarihlerinde Expomed Eurasia
fuarında olacağız. Sektör
paydaşlarımızı standımıza
bekleriz.
Nisan 2022 sayımızda
görüşünceye kadar esen kalın.
‘We must make genetic diagnostic tests accessible all over the world’
‘Genetik tanı testlerini tüm dünyada ulaşılabilir hale getirmeliyiz’
Nadir hastalıklardaki ortalama tanı gecikmesi,
yaklaşık 10 ile 20 yıl arasında değişiyor. Genetik
hastalıkların tanı sürecini, hastalığa özel tanı
kitleri ve yapay zekâ destekli algoritmalarla
hızlandıran Gene2info’nun kurucu ortağı ve
CEO’su Bahadır Onay, 28 Şubat Nadir Hastalıklar
Günü nedeniyle nadir hastalıklara ilişkin
çalışmaları hakkında bilgi verdi.
Bahadır Onay, Founder & CEO of Gene2info
The average delay in diagnosis in rare diseases
ranges from about 10 to 20 years. Bahadır Onay,
Founder & CEO of Gene2info, which accelerates
the diagnosis process of genetic diseases with
disease-specific diagnostic kits and artificial
intelligence-supported algorithms, informs on
rare diseases as part of February 28
Rare Diseases Day.
Stating that about 80 percent of rare diseases are genetic,
Bahadır Onay, Founder & CEO of Gene2info said, “There
are 8 thousand different rare diseases in the world. The
average delay in diagnosis in rare diseases ranges from
about 10 to 20 years. As Gene2info, we aim to make
genetic diagnostic tests easily applicable and interpretable
anywhere in the world.”
Rare diseases, seen in less than 200 thousand people in
the USA and 1 in 2 thousand people in Europe, affect 3.5%
- 5.9% of the world’s population, an estimated 5 million
people in Turkey, 30 million in Europe and It affects 300
million people worldwide. It is stated that there are 7-8
thousand different rare diseases in the world. Treatments
of rare diseases are not considered profitable due to
high development costs and limited patient population,
so a limited number of companies develop drugs for the
treatment of these diseases. Currently, only 150 diseases
can be treated with drugs. It is critical to increase the
success of diagnosis and accelerate the diagnosis process
so that patients can reach treatment.
75% affects children
“About 80 percent of rare diseases are genetic in origin. The
definitive diagnosis of the disease can be made by genetic
testing.
Nadir hastalıkların yaklaşık yüzde 80’inin genetik kökenli
olduğunu belirten Gene2info CEO’su Bahadır Onay,
“Dünyada 8 bin farklı nadir hastalık bulunuyor. Nadir
Yüzde 75’i çocukları etkiliyor
“Nadir hastalıkların yaklaşık yüzde 80’i genetik kökenlidir.
Oysa nadir hastalıkların yüzde 75’i çocukları etkiliyor ve
tanının gecikmesi yaşam süresini kısaltıyor veya yaşam
kalitesini düşürüyor. Nadir hastalığa sahip çocukların
yüzde 30’u 5 yaşından önce aramızdan ayrılıyor. Bu yüzden
genetik testi hayat kurtarıcı olarak görüyoruz. Kullandığımız
NGS teknolojisi, diğer tekniklerden farklı olarak, tüm geni
okuyarak var olabilecek değişikliklerin farkına varmamızı
sağlıyor. Çok geniş kapsamlı genetik testlerle, hekimlerin
ön tanıda düşünmediği hastalıkların bile genetiğini
çalışabilir hale geldik. Bu yüzden hızlı ve geniş kapsamlı
taramalar, çocuklarda tanıyı kolaylaştırıyor ve hastalık
bulguları tam yerleşmeden tedavi olmalarına olanak
sağlıyor.”
Mart - March 2022
9
The fact that the incidence of diseases reaches one in a
million and there are 8 thousand different diseases does
not leave many options for diagnosis. Physicians may
not recognize the disease even if they see it. However,
75 percent of rare diseases affect children, and delayed
diagnosis shortens life expectancy or reduces quality of
life. 30 percent of children with rare diseases die before
the age of 5. That’s why we see genetic testing as a life
saver. The NGS technology we use, unlike other techniques,
allows us to be aware of any changes that may exist by
reading the entire gene. With very comprehensive genetic
tests, we have become able to study the genetics of even
diseases that physicians do not consider in the preliminary
diagnosis. Therefore, rapid and comprehensive screening
facilitates the diagnosis in children and allows them
to be treated before the signs of the disease are fully
established.”
Diagnosis process is reduced to 1 week in rare
diseases
The main problem in the genetic diagnosis of rare diseases
is the insufficient number of genetic physicians worldwide.
Bahadır Onay said, “The diagnostic process with enzyme
tests takes 8 weeks. Currently, we complete the genetic
diagnosis process in 1 week with the technologies we
have developed, our innovative business model and the
developments in NGS technology. As Gene2info, we
manage one of the fastest diagnostic processes in the
world, including samples from abroad. We increased the
rare disease diagnosis rate from 2-3 percent to 20 percent
with enzyme tests. The inadequacy of the number of
genetic physicians in the genetic testing process around
the world is the speed-limiting step in the diagnosis of rare
diseases. Therefore, our goal is to make genetic diagnostic
tests easily applicable and interpretable all over the
world, regardless of the number of genetic physicians and
experience, with the solution we offer. Thus, the success
of diagnosis of rare diseases will increase all over the world
and the diagnosis process will be shortened.”
Nadir hastalıklarda tanı süreci 1 haftaya iniyor
Nadir hastalıkların genetik tanısındaki temel problemse
dünya genelinde genetik hekim sayısının yetersiz olması.
Bahadır Onay, “Enzim testleriyle tanı süreci 8 hafta sürüyor.
Şu anda kendi geliştirdiğimiz teknolojiler, yenilikçi iş
modelimiz ve NGS teknolojisindeki gelişmelerle birlikte
genetik tanı sürecini 1 haftada tamamlıyoruz. Gene2info
Enzim testleriyle
yüzde 2-3 düzeyinde olan nadir hastalık teşhis oranını yüzde
20’ye çıkardık. Dünya genelinde genetik test sürecinde
genetik hekim sayısının yetersizliği nadir hastalıkların
tanısında hız sınırlayıcı basamak oluyor. Bu yüzden
hedefimiz sunduğumuz çözümle, genetik hekim sayısından
ve tecrübeden bağımsız şekilde genetik tanı testlerini
dünyanın her tarafında kolayca yapılabilir ve yorumlanabilir
bir hale getirmek. Böylece nadir hastalıkların tanı başarısı
tüm dünyada artacak ve tanı süreci kısalacak.”
studies came to the agenda, the need for a Phase-1 center
was put forward and Phase-1 centers were opened rapidly
in many parts of Turkey. As an institution, we tried to keep
the standards of these centers as high as possible. These
standards were supposed to be international; so that the
work done here can be valid in the international arena.”
Talking about the necessity of human resources trained
in this field for clinical research to be successful, Assoc.
Dr. Tolga Karakan continued his speech as follows,
“As an institution, we take care to employ our medical
pharmacologists in the Clinical Research Department
of our institution. We are trying to send these friends
to our centers for practical and educational purposes
at the beginning of Phase-1 studies. It is very important
for medical pharmacologists to work in these centers
after their training. Our clinical practice as a country is in
a very good condition; however, when we come to the
documentation, we are weak on some issues. In fact,
the main element of clinical research is documentation.
Documentation needs to be kept very well. We believe that
with this project, an awareness will be created. In other
words, when our colleagues working in our institution land
on the field, we think that the operation will accelerate
with the transfer of information within the institution.”
Thanked the doctors and staff working in Ankara City
Hospital management and Clinical Research Unit for their
efforts, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Karakan, President, Turkish
Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TITCK) concluded,
“Hopefully, more work will come to these centers in the
coming days. Our patients will have greater access to these
innovative treatments.”
Dr. Instructor Member Aziz Ahmet Surel, Chief Physician
of Ankara City Hospital drew attention to the following
in his speech, “We have a Martyr Eczacı Taki Türkyılmaz
hızlı şekilde açıldı. Biz de kurum olarak bu merkezlerin
standartlarını olabildiğince yüksek tutmaya çalıştık. Bu
standartların uluslararası olması gerekiyordu ki; burada
yapılan çalışmaların da uluslararası alanda geçerliliği
olabilsin” dedi.
Klinik araştırmaların başarılı olabilmesi için bu alanda
yetişmiş insan kaynağının gerekliliğinden bahseden Doç.
Dr. Tolga Karakan konuşmasına şöyle devam etti: “Kurum
olarak tıbbi farmakologlarımızı kurumumuzda Klinik
Araştırmalar Dairesinde istihdam etmeye özen gösteriyoruz.
Bu arkadaşlarımızı Faz-1 çalışmaların başlangıcında pratik
ve eğitim amaçlı merkezlerimize göndermeye çalışıyoruz.
Tıbbi farmakologların eğitimleri sonrası bu merkezlerde
görev yapması çok önemli. Ülke olarak klinik pratiğimiz
çok iyi bir durumda; ancak dokümantasyona geldiğimizde
bazı konularda zayıf kalıyoruz. Aslında klinik araştırmaların
ana unsuru da dokümantasyon. Dokümantasyonun
çok iyi tutulması gerekiyor. Bu projeyle beraber bir
farkındalık oluşacağına inanıyoruz. Yani kurumumuzda
çalışan arkadaşlarımız sahaya indiğinde, kurum içindeki
bilgi aktarımıyla beraber işleyişin daha da hızlanacağını
düşünüyoruz.”
Ankara Şehir Hastanesi yönetimi ve Klinik Araştırmalar
Birimi’nde çalışan hekimlere ve personele emeklerinden
ötürü teşekkür eden TİTCK Başkanı Doç. Dr. Tolga Karakan
sözlerini “İnşallah ilerleyen günlerde bu merkezlerimize
daha çok çalışma gelecek. Hastalarımız bu yenilikçi
tedavilere daha çok erişebilecek” diye bitirdi.
Ankara Şehir Hastanesi Koordinatör Başhekimi Dr. Öğretim
çekti: “Yakın zamanda hizmete açtığımız Faz 2-3-4 klinik
Clinical Research Center, which we have established for
the follow-up of Phase 2-3-4 clinical trials that we have
recently put into service. The reason for the existence of
this clinical research center is that we have created the
process of controlling, authorizing and conducting clinical
researches in a more comprehensive way. 166 clinical
studies have been and continue to be done on our campus.
Again, with the momentum brought by vaccine studies,
we have a Phase-1 Clinical Research Center in a separate
building. Here we are currently conducting phase studies
of our national vaccines. Our other two structures in this
area are; One is our Oncology Clinical Research Center in
our Oncology Hospital. We have a general Clinical Research
Center, the other of which has started operating recently,
and which carries out its activities under the control of
our Internal Medicine Clinic within the General Hospital.
For Phase 1, we have a 24-bed center that carries all kinds
of international standards. We have 2 satellite centers on
campus to carry out Phase 2-3-4 studies, and these are
open for studies to be carried out in cooperation with our
internal medicine and oncology clinics. There are 7 hospitals
on the campus, and a clinical research follow-up center that
monitors the clinical research processes carried out in all of
these hospitals is also available in our center opened in the
name of Martyr Eczacı Taki Türkyılmaz. This is the beginning
for us; We believe that our country will go a long way at this
point. The biggest capital of an institution is its employees
who dream for that institution in their own field. We have
tried to avoid any of our colleagues’ dreams about their
profession in the place where we work as much as possible.
Let them dream, we wanted to make it easy for those
dreams to come true. We have a highly professional team.
As a manager, my only dream is for this capacity to work at
the highest rate in order to contribute to our country, our
people and our institution at the highest rate. I think we can
achieve these goals in a very short time with cooperation.”
Pointing out that they aim to provide the society with
early access to innovative treatments and vaccines, Gözde
Güllüoğlu, Managing Director at MSD Turkiye, said, “I hope
that the scientific cooperation in clinical studies with Ankara
City Hospital, which will be carried out with a priority in the
fields of Oncology, Cardiology, Effects and Vaccination,
will make a significant contribution to the R&D activities of
our country in the field of health. With this project we have
implemented, we are working to reveal our potential in the
field of clinical research with the cooperation of State - City
Hospitals - Industry in our country. We are ready to share
all our knowledge and experience in order to strengthen
the research and development structure required for drug
discovery in Turkey and to support clinical studies to be
placed on the right ground. I sincerely believe that we will
get the results of our new cooperation as soon as possible
so that the society can lead a healthier life and reach
innovative treatments earlier.”
Betül Erdoğan, Clinical Research Director, MSD Turkiye,
Middle East, Egypt said, “With the scientific cooperation we
have made with Ankara City Hospital, I believe that we will
make an important contribution to issues such as increasing
the contribution to the development of new drugs and
vaccines, providing access to treatments and vaccines, and
producing high-quality data.”
The importance of social awareness in the
fight against hemophilia is critical
Hemofiliyle mücadelede toplumsal farkındalığın önemi kritik
Prof. Dr. Kaan Kavaklı, President of
the Hemophilia Federation
Hemophilia A, known as a genetically inherited
bleeding disorder that develops as a result of
the absence or low level of clotting factor in
the blood, is among the rare diseases. While 180
thousand people in the world and more than 6
thousand people in Turkey are struggling with
this disease, scientific studies continue with the
focus of improving the lives of patients around
the world.
Diseases with a low incidence in the community, chronic
and life-threatening diseases are defined as “rare diseases”.
There is no cure for 90 percent of rare diseases that
affect approximately 400 million people in the world and
approximately 5 million people in Turkey. Hemophilia, a rare
genetically inherited bleeding disorder, negatively affects
the lives of approximately 180 thousand people in the
world and more than 6 thousand people in Turkey. Stating
that it is very important to convey the right information
to patients and their relatives in the management of
hemophilia A, which requires lifelong treatment, Prof.
Kanda pıhtılaşma faktörünün hiç olmaması
veya az olması sonucu gelişen, genetik geçişli
bir kanama bozukluğu olarak bilinen hemofili
A, nadir hastalıklar arasında yer alıyor.
Dr. Kaan Kavaklı, President of the Hemophilia Federation
in Turkey, said, “We continue to take steps to raise the
standards of treatment in order to contribute to patients,
their relatives and the health system with the studies we
carry out for the treatment of hemophilia. The progress of
these studies in the best way for all stakeholders is directly
proportional to the increase in social awareness about
hemophilia.”
“The burden of hemophilia A constitutes 1.62% of
Turkey’s total health expenditures”
Stating that the data obtained through the “Social Burden
of Hemophilia A Disease” research is remarkable, Prof.
Dr. Kaan Kavaklı, President of the Hemophilia Federation
continues his words as follows, “According to the results of
the research conducted in 2018, which includes the costs
of treatment, follow-up and the course of the disease,
the annual cost per patient of more than 6 thousand
hemophilia A patients in Turkey is approximately 560
thousand TL. Despite being a rare disease, the annual
disease burden of hemophilia reaches almost 3 billion
TL. This figure constitutes 1.62% of Turkey’s total health
expenditures.”
Hemophilia A disease and its risks need to be well
understood
Sharing information about hemophilia A, a rare disease
that requires lifelong treatment, within the scope of
February 28 Rare Diseases Day, Prof. Dr. Kaan Kavaklı
said, “Hemophilia A is a disease that we have determined
that the average age is about 25. If the treatments are
not applied regularly, there are very serious risks waiting
for patients with hemophilia A. Patients may face the risk
of death due to brain hemorrhages that may occur after
permanent joint injuries and head traumas. Therefore,
reaching hemophilia A treatments is of paramount
importance. Patients in Turkey have access to standard
hemophilia A treatments. We aim to reduce the burden
on patients and their relatives by developing treatment
options. We have very important goals such as increasing
the compliance of the patients with the treatment and
increasing their quality of life by enabling them to lead a
bleeding-free life. We continue our work with the hope
of finding a cure for patients. We are also waiting for
innovative solutions in the fight against hemophilia A.”
“Treatment in children begins after the first
bleeding or around 3 years of age”
Recording that the diagnosis of hemophilia patients is
usually made in the first years of life, Kavaklı said, “We
start the treatment after the first bleeding, before the
age of 3 if possible. At this point, it is critical for the family
to get acquainted with hemophilia correctly and receive
professional support. In treatment management for
children, we focus most on the issues that will protect
them from bleeding. Concentrating on preventing joint
bleeding and life-threatening bleeding, and preventing
permanent disability, we continue our efforts to enable
people with hemophilia to lead a more active life.”
“Hemofili A hastalığının yükü Türkiye’nin toplam
sağlık harcamalarının yüzde 1,62’sini oluşturuyor”
“Hemofili A Hastalığının Toplumsal Yükü” araştırması
ile elde edilen verilerin dikkat çekici olduğunu belirten
Hemofili Dernekleri Federasyonu Başkanı Prof. Dr. Kaan
Kavaklı, sözlerine şöyle devam ediyor: “Tedavi, takip ve
hastalığın seyri süresince ortaya çıkan maliyetlerin de dâhil
edildiği 2018 yılında yapılan araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre,
Türkiye’de bulunan 6 binden fazla hemofili A hastasının,
“Hemofili A, yaş ortalamasının yaklaşık 25 olduğunu tespit
ettiğimiz bir hastalık. Tedavilerin düzenli uygulanmaması
durumunda hemofili A hastalarını bekleyen çok ciddi riskler
A tedavilerine ulaşmak büyük önem taşıyor. Türkiye’de
hastalar standart hemofili A tedavilerine erişebiliyorlar.
“We invite everyone to be a partner in the journey
of hemophilia with the ‘and how!’ campaign”
The ‘Hem de Nasıl’ (and how!) digital media platform,
implemented by Roche Pharmaceuticals Turkey in
cooperation with the Hemophilia Society of Turkey and
the Hemophilia Federation, aims to deliver accurate and
up-to-date information on hemophilia to patients and
their relatives. The platform, which was established to
raise awareness about hemophilia, which requires lifelong
treatment, shares posts on its website and social media
channels. Referring to the contributions of the platform
to the awareness of hemophilia, Prof. Dr. Kaan Kavaklı
said, “Because of the difficult recognition of rare diseases,
awareness in this disease is of great importance. For this
reason, it is very critical for the patient’s journey that the
general public have comprehensive information about
life with hemophilia. For this very purpose, the ‘Hem de
Nasıl’ platform has been implemented with important
collaborations to answer many questions about hemophilia
from childhood to adulthood, from school to business life
and family life.”
“The second sector that contributes to the growth
of our country most is Chemistry”
Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of the Istanbul
Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’
Association (IKMIB), made a written assessment
of the 2021 growth data of the Turkish economy
announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute
(TUIK).
Pelister said in his assessment, “While the Turkish economy
grew by 9.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021, it
achieved a double-digit growth rate of 11 percent in the
whole of 2021. We find it important and pleased that our
country will achieve a strong growth in 2021, which is
called the new normal after the pandemic. One of the most
important factors in this growth is the export-based growth
strategy. As a matter of fact, we, as the chemical industry,
became the second industry that contributed the most to
our country’s exports and thus its growth. We are proud of
all our exporters because of this success of our chemical
industry. The exports of our chemical industry, which plays
a leading role in the growth of our country and plays a
strategic role in the economy with its 16 sub-sectors, broke a
record with 25.4 billion dollars in 2021. In 2021, our industry
grew by about 40 percent. In the 9-month period of 2021,
our Turkish chemical industry received a 0.76 percent share
from the global chemical industry exports. Our export target
for 2022 is to reach 28 billion dollars. On the other hand,
the Russia-Ukraine crisis, which is also closely related to our
country, continues to increase energy costs and commodity
prices. As the chemical industry, which is 70% foreigndependent
in terms of raw materials, we follow these
developments closely. We wish this and similar geopolitical
tensions and crises in the world to end as soon as possible.
As the chemical industry, we will continue to work harder,
produce more and increase our exports with the awareness
of our responsibility to increase the added value of our
exports.”
If left untreated, it can
lead to depression!
Tedavi edilmezse
depresyona yol açabilir!
Urinary incontinence may not be a lifethreatening
and fatal problem, but it is a problem
that disrupts social life and even condemns
people to failure in their business life. Fatih
Yanaral, Associate Professor of Urology explained
that this problem can be completely eliminated
with simple treatment methods, and if not
treated, it can lead to depression.
Urinary incontinence, medically called incontinence, is
known as incontinence and loss of bladder control. Urinary
incontinence negatively affects a person’s social, work,
sexual life, in short.
Fatih Yanaral, Associate Professor of Urology said, “Women
complain more about urinary incontinence than men.
Urinary incontinence generally causes embarrassment in
the society. Many patients go untreated because they feel
uncomfortable talking about urinary incontinence with
their doctor. If urinary incontinence occurs frequently or
affects quality of life, it is very important to see a doctor
and get medical treatment recommendations. In most
patients, urinary incontinence can be fully treated with
different treatment options. These treatment options are
strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles, drug treatments
or surgical treatments.”
neden oluyor. Birçok hasta doktorlarıyla idrar kaçırma
durumunu konuşmaktan rahatsızlık duydukları için
tedavisiz kalabiliyor. İdrar kaçırma sıklıkla meydana
geliyor veya hayat kalitesini etkiliyorsa doktora görünmek
ve tıbbi tedavi önerileri almak oldukça önemli. Hastaların
çoğunda idrar kaçırma farklı tedavi seçenekleri ile tam
tedavi edilebilir. Bu tedavi seçenekleri; pelvik taban
Commenting on the causes of urinary incontinence, Yanaral
said, “Types of urinary incontinence are divided into three
as stress urinary incontinence, urge urinary incontinence
and mixed urinary incontinence. In addition, men may
develop urinary incontinence after prostate surgery.
Untreated urinary incontinence can lead to infections, skin
rashes, or sexual problems. It can also cause depression,
stress, damage to self-esteem and embarrassment. These
problems can cause you to separate yourself from society
and disrupt your work and social life. Physical examination,
patient inquiry forms, urine diary, urine analysis, residual
urine amount, pad test, uroflowmetry, urodynamic
evaluation, cystoscopy and imaging procedures are
applied in the diagnosis of urinary incontinence. The cause
of urinary incontinence should be determined exactly.
Sometimes, treatment of the underlying condition, such as
prostate enlargement, also improves urinary incontinence.
After the diagnosis, Bladder Training, Pelvic Floor Muscle
Exercises, drug treatments, Estrogen supplementation
and surgical treatments will help to completely eliminate
this problem. Many of the urinary incontinence surgeries
are easy-to-apply and can be performed as a day-to-day
surgery, like sling surgeries for men and women. In cases
where other treatments are not effective, complete
dryness can be achieved with urinary clamp surgeries called
artificial urinary sphincter and sacral neuromodulation
known as bladder pile.”
Fatih Yanaral, Associate Professor of Urology
kaslarının kuvvetlendirilmesi, ilaç tedavileri veya cerrahi
tedavilerdir.” dedi.
Do not neglect by considering “it is gastritis or ulcer”!
12 important risk factors for stomach cancer!
“Gastrit veya ülserdir” deyip ihmal etmeyin!
Mide kanseri için 12 önemli risk faktörü!
Acıbadem Üniversitesi Atakent Hastanesi Genel
Cerrahi Uzmanı Doç. Dr. Erman Aytaç, mide
kanseri riskini artıran 12 etkeni anlattı.
General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Erman Aytaç
General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Erman
Aytaç, Atakent Hospital of Acıbadem University
talked about 12 factors that increase the risk of
stomach cancer.
Stomach cancer is the 4th most common type of
cancer after breast, lung and colon cancers. Every year,
approximately one million people in the world and 20
Mart - March 2022
29
thousand people in our country are diagnosed with
stomach cancer. It is among the dangerous cancers because
it progresses insidiously in the early stages without causing
any complaints. The first noticeable symptoms are usually
abdominal pain, indigestion and bloating that develops
after eating. However, considering that the complaints
are caused by ‘stomach ulcer’ or ‘gastritis’ diseases, the
problem can be neglected, which may lead to a delay in
treatment. General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Erman
Aytaç, Atakent Hospital of Acıbadem University, warning
of the vital importance of early diagnosis in gastric cancer,
said, “Thanks to early diagnosis, patients can continue their
lives for many years without any problems. For this reason,
complaints such as abdominal pain, bloating after eating
and indigestion, which are usually the first symptoms of
stomach cancer, should be consulted to a physician without
delay. More importantly, it is possible to partially prevent
stomach cancer by paying attention to ‘modifiable’ risk
factors.
Advancing age
The incidence of gastric cancer increases with advancing
age. General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Erman Aytaç
noted that the risk of gastric cancer increases after the age
of 50.
Being a man
Stomach cancer occurs 2 times more often in men than in
women. It is thought that estrogen hormone secreted in
higher amounts in women has a protective effect against
Helicobacter Pylori infection, which increases the risk of
gastric cancer.
İlerleyen yaş
Mide kanserinin görülme sıklığı ilerleyen yaşla birlikte
artıyor. Genel Cerrahi Uzmanı Doç. Dr. Erman Aytaç, mide
kanserinde 50 yaşından sonra riskin yükseldiğini söylüyor.
Erkek olmak
Helikobacter Pylori
Helikobacter Pylori (HP), midede sıklıkla rastlanan bir
bakteri cinsidir. Gastrit oluşumundan sorumlu bir bakteri
olarak görülen Helikobacter Pylori’ye mide kanserli
hastalarda daha fazla rastlandığı biliniyor. “Ancak bu
tablodan midesinde Helikobacter Pylori saptanan her
kişide mide kanseri oluşacağı sonucu çıkartılmamalıdır”
bilgisini veren Doç. Dr. Erman Aytaç, “Çünkü Helikobacter
Pylori’nin sık görüldüğü bazı toplumlarda mide kanseri
oranı düşüktür. Dolayısıyla bu bakterinin yanı sıra diğer risk
faktörleri de son derece önemlidir” diyor.
Mart - March 2022
30
Genetic factor
If there is a history of stomach cancer in first-degree
family members such as mother, father and siblings, the
risk of developing this disease is higher than the normal
population. Therefore, it is recommended to consult a
physician who is an expert in this field to evaluate the risk.
Helicobacter Pylori
Helicobacter Pylori (HP) is a bacterial genus that is
frequently encountered in the stomach. Helicobacter Pylori,
which is seen as a bacterium responsible for the formation
of gastritis, is known to be more common in patients with
gastric cancer. “However, it should not be deduced from
this table that gastric cancer will develop in every person
with Helicobacter Pylori in their stomach”, Assoc. Dr. Erman
Aytaç, said, “Because in some societies where Helicobacter
Pylori is common, the rate of stomach cancer is low.
Therefore, in addition to this bacterium, other risk factors
are also extremely important.”
Consuming too much salt
Excess salt consumption is among the important factors
that increase the risk of stomach cancer. The World Health
Organization recommends that daily salt consumption
should not exceed 5 grams.
Salted, smoked foods
The World Health Organization reports that 30 percent
of cancers in developed countries are related to diet. For
example, in geographies such as Japan where salted and
smoked foods are consumed heavily, stomach cancer is
more common. It is thought that barbecued meat, which is
widely consumed in our country, may also be a risk factor.
This may be related to salting of the meat and burning
it while cooking. Similarly, large amounts of processed
meat or fried foods, sauces and spicy foods, or foods
contaminated with aflatoxin (like mold on stale bread)
increase the risk.
General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Erman Aytaç said, “Just
as overconsumption of salted and smoked foods increases
the likelihood of developing stomach cancer, on the
contrary, eating plenty of raw vegetables and fruits, vitamin
C and antioxidant substances can have a positive effect on
protection from this cancer.”
Smoking
Smoking is a risk factor for stomach cancer, as it is for many
cancers. In fact, the risk increases 4 times as the intensity
and duration of smoking increases.
Obesity
Obesity, which is an important problem of our age, also
increases the risk of stomach cancer. Factors such as
toxic substances in the body that increase with obesity,
oxygenation disorder that increases cancer development
at the cell level, and weakening of the defense system can
facilitate the development of stomach cancer.
kanserden korunmada olumlu etki yapabiliyor” diyor.
Sigara kullanımı
Sigara kullanımı birçok kanserde olduğu gibi mide
kanseri için de risk faktörü oluyor. Öyle ki sigara kullanım
yoğunluğu ve süresi arttıkça risk 4 kat yükseliyor.
Obezite
oluyorlar.
Kan grubunun A olması
Mide kanseri kan grubu A olan kişilerde daha sık görülüyor.
Kesin nedeni bilinmemekle beraber, bu durum A kan grubu
Some professions
Workers in certain occupations (such as those exposed to
wood smoke or asbestos fumes, metal, plastic and mining
workers) are at greater risk for stomach cancer.
Having blood group A
Gastric cancer is more common in people with blood group
A. Although the exact cause is unknown, this is explained
by the fact that people with blood type A are more
susceptible to Helicobacter Pylori infection.
Some diseases
• In some diseases involving the large intestine (familial
adenomatous polyposis and familial nonpolyposis
colorectal cancer), the possibility of gastric cancer
increases.
• Pernicious anemia, a type of anemia caused by the
inability to absorb vitamin B12, also increases the risk of
stomach cancer.
• Gastric cancer is more common in patients with atrophic
gastritis (chronic inflammation resulting in the loss of
epithelial cells and glands of the mucous layer lining the
inner surface of the stomach).
• Studies have shown that the ebstein-barr virus,
which causes infectious mononucleosis, known as the
kissing disease in the community, has an effect on the
development of stomach cancer.
Having stomach surgery
Pointing out that the risk of developing this cancer has
increased over the years in those who had gastric surgery
in the past, especially in patients who had a part of their
stomach removed, General Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr.
Erman Aytaç said, “Therefore, even if they are symptomfree,
patients who have undergone gastric surgery undergo
gastroscopy at regular intervals for control purposes.”
It can be lived for many years without any
problems
Very early stage tumors in gastric cancer can be treated
endoscopically without the need for surgery. General
Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Erman Aytaç stated that,
apart from endoscopic treatment methods, the main
treatment method in stages 1-3 of the disease is the
surgical procedure. In the 2nd and 3rd stages of the
disease, chemotherapy is usually applied first, and the
surgery is performed later. According to the pathology
report, additional treatments such as chemotherapy and
radiotherapy can be applied after the surgery. If the tumor
has spread to distant organs such as the liver and lungs,
that is, if the disease is in stage 4, the main treatment
method is chemotherapy.
Indicating that many factors affect the treatment results,
Aytaç said, “The most important of these factors are the
stage of the disease and the quality of the treatments.
Considering the advantages of closed methods to the
patient in experienced centers, the surgery can be
performed laparoscopically or robotically.”
Genel
Cerrahi Uzmanı Doç. Dr. Erman Aytaç, endoskopik tedavi
yöntemleri dışında, hastalığın 1-3 evrelerinde ana tedavi
yönteminin cerrahi işlem olduğunu belirterek, “Cerrahi
tedavinin ana prensibi, tümörün yayılma olasılığı olan tüm
lenf bezleriyle birlikte çıkartılmasıdır. Hastalığın 2. ve 3.
evresinde genellikle önce kemoterapi uygulanıyor, ameliyat
daha sonra yapılıyor. Patoloji raporuna göre ameliyat
sonrasında kemoterapi ve radyoterapi gibi ek tedaviler
uygulanabiliyor. Tümör karaciğer ve akciğer gibi uzak
organlara da sıçramışsa, yani hastalık 4. evredeyse ana
tedavi yöntemi kemoterapi oluyor” diyor.
Aytaç, tedavi sonuçlarını birçok faktörün etkilediğini
belirterek, “Bu etkenlerin en önemlileri hastalığın evresi
ve yapılan tedavilerin kalitesidir. Deneyimli merkezlerde
kapalı yöntemlerin hastaya sağladığı avantajlar göz önünde
tutularak ameliyat laparoskopik veya robotik olarak
yapılabiliyor” diyor.
Impromptu sports tire the heart!
Hazırlıksız yapılan spor kalbi yoruyor!
According to the data
of the World Health
Organization, at
least half an hour of
exercise 4 days a week
is beneficial for heart
health, but exceeding
these limits can have
heavy consequences.
In addition, excessive
activity without warming
up before doing sports
Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Dr. Barış Çaynak is a condition that tires
the heart and increases
the risk of heart attack. Sudden exertion, putting
a load on the heart, can cause thickening of the
heart walls, causing compression of the vessels
feeding the heart. Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Dr. Barış
Çaynak talked about the things to be considered
while doing sports…
Muscles must be strengthened first
“There are preparations to be made before starting a job in
every area of life. Before starting to do sports, the person
should prepare himself and go through the necessary
health checks. Exercise, which provides changes in all
body functions, increases the person’s oxygen need up to
12 times. This need directly means that the heart has to
pump more blood. Meanwhile, the faster beating heart
works harder and exerts more effort to meet all the needs.
The muscles of the heart, whose workload increases, get
stronger over time and become trained for the necessary
effort, just like in professional sports people. In other
words, making one’s heart suitable for sports can be
achieved with regular exercise. Volume and muscle increase
is observed in the left ventricle of the heart prepared for
sports. In this way, the heart also has the power to continue
physical activity at high tempo without difficulty.
Ani efor
koyuyor. Sabahları yapılan tempolu egzersiz; 40 yaşın
üzerindeki sağlıklı kişilerde ve yaşı fark etmeksizin tüm kalp
hastalarında kalp krizine ve ani ölüme neden olabiliyor.” Dedi.
Blood thinner area should pay attention to
trauma
Cardiac Surgeon Prof. Dr. Barış Çaynak warns, “Scientific
research shows that the majority of heart attacks occur
between 06:00 and 12:00 in the morning, and most often
between 08:00 and 09:00 in the morning. Brisk exercise in
the morning can cause heart attack and sudden death in
healthy people over the age of 40 and in all heart patients
regardless of age.”
First postpartum processes
Doğum sonrası ilk süreçler
Pediatrics Specialist Fatma Işıker, Optimed
Hospital shared useful information about the
newborn examination process.
“The first 4 weeks (0-28 days) after birth is called the
“neonatal period”. The first day, first week and first month
of life after birth is the period when the baby needs the
help of the environment the most in terms of regulating
its adaptation to the external environment and is most
sensitive to harmful factors. A healthy newborn is defined
as a baby born at the end of the normal gestation period,
weighing 2500-4000 g, having good adaptability to the
external environment, and not showing signs of disease.
Examination of the newborn
The first examination of the newborn is quite detailed.
It is examined in detail whether there is a congenital
anomaly, heart sounds, eye and ear examination, body
reflexes, muscle strength, whether the umbilical cord
falls off and umbilical care, whether the eggs (testes) of
male babies descend to their place. Babies who do not
have any health problems are treated and weighed, their
head circumferences and heights are measured. Vitamin
K injections are made and the first examinations are made
in terms of congenital diseases and given to the mother.
Some blood tests (blood count, blood group, blood sugar
levels if necessary) are done.
Hepatitis vaccine
The hepatitis B vaccine is also given right after birth, while
still in the hospital. The second dose will be given by your
family doctor and nurse at the age of 1 month.
Mart - March 2022
35
Hearing test
A hearing screening test should also be done before your
baby is discharged from the hospital.
Baby’s first doctor checkup
The newborn is weighed at the first examination, and
the head circumference and height are measured again.
It is important that you mark and follow your baby’s
measurements in the post-natal booklet. Your baby may
have lost some weight at the first checkup. This is an
expected situation. Do not be alarmed, find out from your
doctor whether you are feeding your baby properly and
adequately, and how to apply it correctly. Your baby will
soon make up for it. Each baby’s growth may be different,
the important thing is to progress each month.
Jaundice
One of the most important points is whether your baby
is yellow at the first examination. After birth, every baby
turns a little yellow. This is due to the load on the baby’s
liver as a result of separation from the mother after birth.
It is determined and followed by looking at the level
of bilirubin in the blood. Too high is dangerous. Babies
with high bilirubin levels are followed up at intervals
that your doctor deems appropriate, and are treated by
hospitalization when necessary.
Hip ultrasound
In addition, hip joints are examined for hip dislocation
and hip ultrasound is requested if necessary. Routine hip
ultrasound is recommended at the 1st month examination.
İşitme testi
Bebeğiniz hastaneden taburcu olmadan önce mutlaka
işitme tarama testi de yapılmalıdır.
Bebeğin ilk doktor kontrolü
Yenidoğan İlk muayenesinde tartılıp baş çevresi ve
boyu tekrar ölçülür. Bebeğinizin ölçümlerini doğum
sonrası verilen kitapçıkta işaretleyip takip etmeniz
önemlidir. Bebeğiniz ilk muayenesinde biraz kilo vermiş
olabilir. Bu beklenen bir durumdur. Telaşa kapılmayın;
noktalardan biridir. Doğum sonu her bebek bir miktar
sararır. Bu doğum sonrasında anneden ayrılma sonucu
bebek karaciğerine olan yüklenmeye bağlıdır. Kanda
bilirubin seviyesi bakılarak tespit ve takip edilir. Çok
yükselmesi tehlikeli bir durumdur. Bilirubinleri yüksek
çıkan bebekler doktorunuzun uygun gördüğü aralıklarda
takibe alınır, gerekil görüldüğünde hastaneye yatış
yapılarak tedavi edilir.
Kalça ultrasonu
Ayrıca, kalça çıkıklığı açısından kalça eklemleri muayene
edilip gerekirse kalça ultrasonu istenir.
1.ay muayenesinde rutin kalça ultrasonu önerilir.
Excess weight and
diabetes can lead to vision loss!
Aşırı kilo ve diyabet,
görme kaybına yol açabilir!
Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün, physician at Kaşkaloğlu Eye Hospital
Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün, physician at Kaşkaloğlu
Eye Hospital said that early diagnosis is important
in the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy, which is
the most common cause of vision loss.
Noting that Diabetic Retinopathy, which is generally seen
in advanced ages due to Type 2 diabetes, progresses
insidiously, Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün stated that the disease
is usually noticed in later stages and can lead to vision loss.
Stating that diabetes affects the eyes as well as the general
health of the body, Prof. Dr. Erakgün said, “Diabetes causes
diseases by affecting the small vascular systems in the
brain, kidneys and eyes. Diabetic Retinopathy does not
show itself immediately. Even if the person does not feel
a problem with vision, he may experience vision loss after
many years. He may even become blind, depending on the
progression of the disease. It is too late when the disease
gives signs that will show itself. In the treatment, only a
partial improvement or preservation of the current eye
Diyabetik Retinopati kendini hemen belli etmez. Kişi görme
konusunda bir sorun hissetmese bile uzun yıllar sonunda
görme kaybı yaşayabilir. Hatta hastalığın ilerleyişine göre
kör bile olabilir. Hastalık kendini belli edecek bulgular
verince geç kalınmış oluyor. Tedavide ancak kısmi
condition is achieved. For this reason, those with diabetes
must undergo regular eye check-ups.”
Causes vision loss
Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün said that because diabetic
retinopathy causes bleeding and edema in the visual
center, it can lead to vision loss and even blindness.
Prof. Erakgün gave the following information, “Our body
causes unwanted new vessel formation to compensate
for the lack of oxygen in the eye. As a result, unhealthy
and fragile vessels cause bleeding. Diabetic Retinopathy
is usually seen in both eyes. In some cases, it can show
asymmetric development in different eyes. When a certain
degree of damage is exceeded, only partial treatment can
be done. In diabetic retinopathy, treatment is planned
according to certain criteria using certain diagnostic
methods. OCT and Eye Angiography reveal edema and
unwanted vascular formations in the visual center. If
edema develops in the visual center, needle
therapy is applied. This treatment
is a method that we have used
frequently, especially in the last 15
years. Needle treatment stops the
bleeding and also dries the edema
in the visual center. During the
treatment process, this process can
be repeated depending on
the situation. Another applied
method is Green Argon Laser
treatment. With the laser, the
oxygen requirement of the retina
is reduced and the formation of
new vessels is prevented. In advanced processes, surgery
is performed with the Vitrectomy method. Bleeding in
the eye is cleaned with the vitrectomy method. Veins and
membrane formation that cause bleeding are also treated.”
Lifestyle change needed
Expressing that Diabetic Retinopathy is not a completely
treatable disease, Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün said, “As long
as diabetes continues in the body, this disease may
progress or recur. Diabetes is often associated with
obesity, unhealthy diet, overweight and hypertension.
For this reason, besides diabetes, obesity, hypertension
and unhealthy diet should be prevented and weight loss
should be controlled. Lifestyle change is important in
the treatment of this disease. Type 1 diabetes, a type of
diabetes, can be seen at very young ages and in young
people. For this reason, diabetic retinopathy can occur at
an early age, for example, in the 20s. The same diagnosis
and treatment methods are applied. Considering that
the patient has a long life ahead of him due to his youth,
he has to fight this disease by getting it under control.
This disease is also seen frequently in our country. Even
if those with diabetes do not have any vision complaints,
they should act consciously and be examined at regular
intervals.”
bir düzelme veya mevcut göz durumunun korunması
sağlanıyor. Bu nedenle şeker hastalığı bulunanlar mutlaka
düzenli olarak göz kontrolünden geçmelidir” dedi.
Görme kaybına neden oluyor
Prof. Dr. Tansu Erakgün, Diyabetik retinopatinin görme
merkezinde kanama ve ödeme yol açması yüzünden görüş
kaybına hatta körlüğe yol açabildiğini söyledi.
Prof. Dr. Erakgün, şu bilgileri verdi: “Vücudumuz gözdeki
oksijen yetersizliğini telafi etmek için istenmeyen yeni
damar oluşumuna yol açıyor. Bunun sonucunda sağlıklı
olmayan ve kırılgan yapıdaki damarlar kanamaya neden
oluyor. Diyabetik Retinopati genelde iki gözde birden
görülüyor. Kimi durumlarda farklı gözlerde asimetrik
gelişim de gösterebiliyor. Belli bir hasar derecesini aşınca
ancak kısmi tedavi olabiliyor. Diyabetik retinopatide
belli tanı yöntemleri kullanılarak birtakım kriterlere
göre tedavi planlanıyor. OCT ve Göz Anjiyosu ile görme
merkezinde ödem ve istenmeyen damar oluşumları
ortaya konuyor. Görme merkezinde ödem
gelişmiş ise iğne tedavisi uygulanıyor. Bu
tedavi özellikle son 15 yılda sıklıkla
başvurduğumuz bir yöntem. İğne
tedavisi kanamayı durduruyor
ve görme merkezindeki
ödemi de kurutuyor. Tedavi
sürecinde duruma göre bu
işlem tekrarlanabiliyor. Bir
diğer uygulanan yöntem ise,
Yeşil Argon Lazer tedavisi.
Lazerle retinanın oksijen
ihtiyacı azaltılıp yeni damar
oluşmasının önüne geçiliyor. İleri
derecedeki süreçlerde ise Vitrektomi yöntemiyle ameliyat
gerçekleştiriliyor. Vitrektomi yöntemiyle göz içinde oluşan
kanama temizleniyor.
gerekiyor.” Dedi.
“Tennis Elbow is treatable”
“Tenisçi Dirseği hastalığı tedavi edilebilir”
Tenisçi Dirseği hastalığının daha çok tenis
oynayan kişilerde görüldüğü için bu ismi aldığını
anlatan Therapy Sport Center Fizik Tedavi
Merkezi’nden Uzman Fizyoterapist Leyla Altıntaş,
hastalık hakkında detaylı bilgiler verdi.
Physiotherapist Leyla Altıntaş
Noting that Tennis Elbow disease gets this name
because it is mostly seen in people who play
tennis, Physiotherapist Leyla Altıntaş, Therapy
Sport Center, Physical Medicine Center, detailed
on the disease.
How to prevent Tennis Elbow in 6 steps?
Tennis Elbow, medically known as Lateral Epicondylitis is
the inflammation of the protruding bone on the outer edge
of the elbow, to which the muscles that move the wrist
upwards adhere, due to strain, that is, edema. The most
important symptom is pain on the outside of the elbow that
occurs with touch or forceful movements. The severity of
the pain varies according to the magnitude of the event. In
the initial phase, there is pain in very demanding activities,
while in the advanced stages of the disease, simple daily
life activities such as combing hair, washing face, brushing
teeth make the person very difficult.
“The biggest mistakes made by tennis players are the
wrong application of the backhand technique, the grip part
of the tennis racket is not wide enough to match the hand,
and the racket is held too tightly. Long-term tight grip
movements cause the muscles in the wrist and elbow to
be overtired and unable to relax. For this reason, it causes
the bone tissue to be forced and edematous where the
muscles attach. Although it is called tennis elbow disease,
we see this disease more frequently in desk workers
and housewives in today’s conditions. Especially in longterm
computer use, when using a mouse, the wrist and
finger muscles stay tight for a long time and cannot relax,
therefore, first of all, sensitivity develops at the attachment
site, and if repetitive trauma continues, it causes
bozukluklara neden olur. Ev hanımlarında bez sıkma,
sıkı kavanoz açma, bıçakla kesme soyma gibi tekrarlayan
zorlayıcı aktiviteler sonucunda da aynı hastalıkla
karşılaşmaktayız.”
permanent disorders in the bone. We encounter the same
disease in housewives as a result of repetitive compulsive
activities such as wringing the diaper, opening tight jars,
cutting with a knife and peeling.”
What are the ways to prevent Tennis Elbow?
Physiotherapist Leyla Altıntaş noted the following about
ways to prevent Tennis Elbow:
1-Before doing sports, you should warm up thoroughly;
Stretching movements should be performed in accordance
with the wrist, finger and elbow muscles.
2- Equipment used in sports should be personal and
compatible with the physical characteristics of the person.
3-When playing tennis, the backhand technique must be
applied correctly.
4- Wrist supported mousepad should be used for desk
workers, working intervals should be adjusted well and
stretching exercises should be done for wrist, finger and
elbow muscles during these break periods.
5-For housewives, compelling activities should be
distributed throughout the day without forcing too much.
6-The wrist, finger, elbow and shoulder muscles should
always be strong and flexible.
Tennis Elbow treated?
Physiotherapist Leyla Altıntaş concluded, “In the treatment,
primarily the pain and edema in the elbow area are tried to
be relieved. Appropriate medications given by the doctor
for this, ice application and special elbow braces used in
the elbow area are acute phase treatments. The purpose
of using the elbow is to rest that area. Ice application
3-4 times a day for 15 minutes helps to disperse edema
and reduce pain. In the period when the pain begins
to decrease, strengthening the muscles with gradually
increasing exercise programs and providing flexibility with
appropriate stretching exercises prevents the recurrence
of the disease. In painful situations that do not last for a
long time, physical therapy applications and ESWT (Shock
Wave Therapy), one of the new generation treatments,
accelerate the repair of the tissue by increasing blood
supply and oxygenation in that area. Local injection
applications to the painful area and PRP treatments are
other treatment methods. Approximately 85-90% of
patients recover with conservative treatment. In cases
that do not heal and become very chronic, surgery can be
applied.”
Tenisçi Dirseği hastalığını önlemenin yolları
nelerdir?
Uzman Fizyoterapist Leyla Altıntaş, Tenisçi Dirseği
hastalığını önlemenin yolları hakkında şunları kaydetti:
1-Spor yapmadan önce iyice ısınmalıdır; el bileği, parmak ve
dirsek kaslarına uygun germe hareketleri yapılmalıdır.
2-Sporda kullanılan ekipmanlar, kişiye özgü ve kişinin
fiziksel özellikleriyle uyumlu olmalıdır.
3-Tenis oynarken, Backhand tekniğinin doğru uygulanması
gerekir.
dirseklikler akut faz tedavileridir. Dirsekliğin kullanım
amacı, o bölgeyi istirahate almaktır. Gün içerisinde 3-4
defa, 15 dakika süreyle, buz uygulaması ödemin dağılmasını
ve ağrının azalmasını sağlamaktadır. Ağrının azalmaya
başladığı dönemde, kademeli artan egzersiz programlarıyla
kasları kuvvetlendirmek ve uygun germe egzersizleriyle
esneklik kazandırmak hastalığın nüksetmesini engeller.
Uzun süreli geçmeyen ağrılı durumlarda, fizik tedavi
uygulamaları ve yeni nesil tedavilerden ESWT (Şok
Dalga Tedavisi), o bölgede kanlanmayı ve oksijenlenmeyi
arttırarak dokunun onarımını hızlandırmaktadır. Ağrılı
bölgeye lokal enjeksiyon uygulamaları, PRP tedavileri
de diğer tedavi yöntemlerindendir. Hastaların yaklaşık
%85-90’ı konservatif tedaviyle iyileşir. İyileşmeyen ve çok
kronikleşen durumlarda cerrahiye başvurulabilir.” diyerek
sözlerini tamamladı.
“A proper planning is essential for dental implants”
“Diş İmplantı için düzgün bir planlama şart”
Dt. Yunus Emre Uçar, Dentist at Optimed Hospital
answered the questions about the implant.
How is the implant applied?
Before the implant procedure, we evaluate the general
health status of our patients. If there is no obstacle to
implant, then we examine bone adequacy by performing
radiological examinations. In the case of bone deficiency,
bone volume can be restored by surgical procedures. After
these procedures, implant placement is performed in
sterile environments under local anesthesia.
Does the patient feel any pain during the
procedure?
No, the patient does not feel any pain during this
procedure.
Is there a certain age limit for implant
application?
Although we have a lower age limit for the implant
Optimed Hastanesi Diş Hekimi Dt. Yunus Emre
Mart - March 2022
50
procedure, we do not have an upper age limit. We can
also achieve successful results in our very elderly patients.
However, in our patients whose growth development
continues, we expect the jawbone to complete its
development first, since the implant does not adapt to the
growth and development of the jawbone. For this, we can
give an average of around 18 years old.
How long does the process take?
If proper planning has been done beforehand, 5-10
minutes is sufficient for a single implant. Of course, this
may vary according to the structure of the bone and the
necessary surgical procedures.
How long does the implant boil?
We can give an average value for the time of union of the
implant with the bone. 3-4 months in the upper jaw and
a more compact bone in the lower jaw 2-3 months will be
sufficient.
What is the success rate of the implant?
The success rate of the implant may vary according to the
general health status of the patient, the oral hygiene of the
patient, the experience of the practicing physician and the
bone structure. We can talk about success results of up to
90-95% in an implant made in accordance with the rules.
So, how should eating
and drinking be after the
procedure?
Within 2-3 hours after the
procedure, no food should
be eaten until the effect of
local anesthesia wears off.
Within a week following the
procedure, soft and warm
foods should be preferred,
and very cold or very hot,
spicy, racy and spicy foods
should be avoided. After
one week, the wound area
becomes painless and our
patients can continue their daily routine.
Dentist Dt.
devam edebilir.
industry have made it possible to treat many diseases.
Therefore, every country is working hard to make
biotechnological drugs accessible to patients, and
investments in this field are increasing. Pharmaceutical
Industry Employers’ Union, one of the leading organizations
of the Turkish pharmaceutical industry, also established
the Turkish Biopharmaceuticals Platform in 2016 in order
to increase the competence and competitiveness of the
industry by placing the biotechnological pharmaceutical
field among its strategic priorities and to contribute more
effectively to the development of this field in our country.
Since its establishment, the platform has implemented
different projects in close cooperation with both the public
and universities. Standing out with the work it has carried
out so far, the Platform has decided to expand its field
of activity in order to take effective steps in the field of
vaccines, the importance of which has been emphasized
even more recently, and decided to continue on its way as
the Turkish Biopharmaceuticals Platform.
Making a statement on the subject, Murat Barlas,
President of the Turkish Biopharmaceuticals Platform,
said, “The role of R&D and biotechnology is indisputable
so that the Turkish pharmaceutical industry can make the
breakthrough it aims and have its deserved place in global
competition. In this context, with our Platform for more
than 5 years, the biotechnology climate needed in our
country will flourish in terms of legislation, understanding
and public-private sector-university cooperation; We are
working with determination to rise on solid foundations.
With the awareness that our activities make a significant
difference, we move forward with increasing enthusiasm.
With the Covid-19 pandemic that affected the whole world
in 2020, we have clearly seen the importance of vaccine
development and production competence for countries.
In our country, this process was successfully carried out
under the roof of the Covid-19 Turkey Platform, which was
generated under the leadership of our Ministry of Industry
and Technology. However, through this tough period, we
see that we have to develop and produce vaccines as a
country in order to combat
both the process we are
going through and the
similar epidemics that may
occur in the future. In this
context, we have decided
to expand the scope
of our Platform. From
now on, as the Turkish
Biopharmaceuticals
Platform, we will
support the studies on
vaccines in our country
with great effort, and
we will make great
efforts to strengthen
the coordination and
cooperation in this field.”
çalışıyor, bu alana yönelik yatırımlar artıyor. Türk ilaç
endüstrisinin öncü kuruluşlarından olan İlaç Endüstrisi
İşverenler Sendikası da biyoteknolojik ilaç alanını stratejik
öncelikleri arasına alarak endüstrinin yetkinliğini ve
rekabet gücünü artırmak, ülkemizde bu alanın gelişimine
daha etkin katkı sağlamak amacıyla 2016 yılında Türkiye
Biyoteknolojik İlaç Platformu’nu kurdu. Platform
Artificial Uterine Treatment gives hope to expectant mothers!
Yapay Rahim Tedavisi anne adaylarına umut oluyor!
Anne olmak isteyen birçok kadın rahime tutunma
potansiyeli yüksek ve kaliteli embriyolara her
zaman sahip olamıyor. Bu durum ise gelişen
embriyolardaki yeteriz moleküler tutamaç sayısı
ve düşük embriyo kalitesi ile gebeliği olumsuz
etkiliyor. Tekrarlayan tüp bebek tedavisinde
başarılı sonuç alamayan çiftler ise umudu yapay
rahim yönteminde arıyor. Bu kapsamda yapay
rahim uygulamasının embriyoların rahmi içine
tutunarak gebelik şansını artırdığının altını çizen
Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Uzmanı Prof. Dr.
Yücel Karaman, ‘’Ko-kültür, halk arasında yapay
rahim olarak bilinen uygulama, çocuk sahibi
olmak isteyen adaylara umut oluyor. Yapay rahim
tedavisi tekrarlayan tüp bebek başarısızlıklarında
ve 40 yaş üzeri anne adaylarında uygulanıyor’’
diye belirtti.
Obstetrician and Gynecologist Prof. Dr. Yücel Karaman
Many women who want to become mothers do
not always have high quality embryos with high
potential to adhere to the uterus. This situation
negatively affects pregnancy with insufficient
number of molecular handles and low embryo
quality in developing embryos. Couples who
could not get successful results in recurrent IVF
treatment are looking for hope in the artificial
womb method. In this context, pointing out that
the artificial womb application increases the
chance of pregnancy by attaching the embryos
to the womb, Obstetrician and Gynecologist Prof.
Dr. Yücel Karaman, said, “Co-culture, the practice
known as artificial womb among the people, gives
hope to the candidates who want to have a child.
Artificial womb treatment is applied in recurrent
IVF failures and in expectant mothers over the
age of 40.”
With the development of technology, advancing treatment
methods become a source of hope for families who want
to have a child. In this context, Endometrial Surgery is
applied to couples whose embryos show slow or poor
development. Underlining that the co-culture treatment
has achieved a great deal of success, Prof. Dr. Yücel
Karaman said, “Endometrial In co -culture treatment,
a tissue sample is taken from the uterus on the 21st
Mart - March 2022
72
day of menstruation. This tissue is separated into cells,
reproduced in the laboratory and meticulously prepared
to increase the development of the embryo and its
attachment to the uterus. As a result of the interaction
of the endometrial cells taken from the uterus with the
embryo, the chance of pregnancy increases.”
“It is a source of hope for expectant mothers”
Emphasizing that the artificial womb application increases
the development of the embryo and the potential for
attachment to the uterus in IVF treatment, Prof. Dr.
Yücel Karaman said, “In this method, which is one of the
advanced techniques used in IVF treatment, the uterine
tissue is taken from the expectant mother in a procedure
that does not require anesthesia to be reproduced in the
external environment. Thus, the embryos continue to
develop in a supportive culture environment created from
the individual’s own uterine cells until the transfer process.
The beneficial biological growth factors secreted by the
culture medium of these supporting cells support the
development of the embryo and the increase in its ability
to handle. This method; It can be preferred in women who
cannot get pregnant naturally, who have had at least two
unsuccessful IVF attempts, and in couples whose embryos
are developing slowly or with poor quality.”
How co-culture practiced?’
Stating that the artificial uterus, which is a kind of
auxiliary nutrient medium, is applied on the 21st
day of the menstrual cycle of women, Prof. Dr. Yücel
Karaman said, “A small tissue sample is taken from the
uterus, and the special cells that are separated from
the tissue are reproduced by devices that imitate their
natural environment until the egg retrieval day, which
is approximately 20-30 days. Embryos, that is, artificially
fertilized eggs, are placed in the area where these cells
act as a pillow. While the artificial uterus creates the rich
nutrient environment needed for the development of
embryos, it also minimizes the damage of toxic wastes.”
The Story of Hope has brought another award to Santa Farma!
Umudun Hikayesi (the Story of Hope) project
carried out by Santa Farma Pharmaceuticals for
the promotion of differentiated products, won the
3rd prize in the category of User Experience and
Interface in the Digital Craft category of the Direct
Marketing Awards. The story of hope project had
previously won an achievement award in the Felis
Health Category Detailing Study.
In the project, which brought another award to Santa Farma
at the 13th Direct Marketing Awards (Doğrudan Pazarlama
Ödülleri) held this year by the Association of Direct Marketing
Communicators (Doğrudan Pazarlama İletişimcileri Derneği)
(DPİD) to reward the most successful and remarkable projects,
physicians were invited to interact by differentiating from
standard detailing methods. In the work prepared with a team
of illustrators, designers, writers and software developers,
an in-depth experience was provided by using a different
technology. In the study, which was prepared with 2D
comic book-like drawings that give a 3-dimensional feeling,
infrastructure technology that gains movement and depth
with the movement of the device or mouse, and sound effects
that increase realism were used.
In the project, the message of “Don’t Lose Hope”
was conveyed by Sadako’s story full of struggle
Sadako, who was living in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb
was dropped, was hospitalized for leukemia and tried to
make 1000 paper cranes during her hospital stay. She did this
because, according to an ancient Japanese belief, a person
who makes 1000 cranes has the right to make a wish, and
Sadako wanted to make a wish to get rid of cancer.
Santa Farma İlaç’ın farklılaşmış ürün tanıtımı için
hazırladığı Umudun Hikayesi projesi, Doğrudan
Pazarlama Ödülleri Dijital Craft kategorisinde
Kullanıcı Deneyimi ve Arayüz dalında 3.’lük ödülü
kazandı. Umudun hikayesi projesi daha önce de
Felis Sağlık Kategorisi Detailing Çalışması dalında
başarı ödülü kazanmıştı.
Doğrudan Pazarlama İletişimcileri Derneği (DPİD)
tarafından en başarılı ve dikkat çeken projeleri
ödüllendirmek amacıyla bu yıl 13’üncüsü düzenlenen
Doğrudan Pazarlama Ödülleri’nde Santa Farma’ya bir ödül
daha getiren projede, standart detailing yöntemlerinden
ayrışarak hekimler etkileşime davet edildi. İllüstrator,
tasarımcı yazar ve yazılımcılardan oluşan ekiple beraber
hazırlanan çalışmada farklı bir teknoloji kullanılarak
derinlikli bir deneyim yaşatıldı. 3 boyutlu hissi veren
