English Summary < 118 >8.Moving from theHistorical Buildingof the National MuseumIn relation to the planned reconstruction of the historicalNational Museum building, vacating the building for theupcoming period of reconstruction was of paramountimportance. Because the main museum building servesmany other functions besides being a place to holdtemporary exhibitions and display the permanentcollection and to house staff offices and serve asa depository for many items from its collections, relocationbegan to new depository facilities located in and aroundthe outskirts of Prague. The planned move included thecollections and offices of the National Museum, the NaturalHistory Museum, the National Museum Library and centraladministrative offices.With regard to the care of collection items, it’s worthpointing out that most of the items in the collection havebeen moved to well-equipped modern depository facilitiesthat meet the latest standards in terms of security andclimatic conditions.9.Care for the BookCollectionThe National Museum Library is the central library of theNational Museum, which handles the acquisition andcataloging of books for all the various departments of theNational Museum as well as their departmental libraries.Although cataloging and acquisition tasks are conductedcentrally, other libraries which operate somewhatindependently of the National Museum Library are theDepartment of Music History of the Czech Museum of Musicand the Náprstek Museum Library. Both of these librarieswere built separately and the library at the Czech Museum ofMusic is a so-called collection library. The National MuseumLibrary maintains part of its collection in the CentralCollection Register, but most collections are processed andcatalogued according to the Library Act.10.Care for ArchivalMaterialThe National Museum Archive and various other departmentsof the Historical Museum and the Náprstek Museum cataloguearchival material in a national database maintained by theCzech Ministry of the Interior. As new collections are obtained,these items are processed in accordance with a common set ofarchiving standards and they also provide research services.
