We are living in a time of another greatchange, shifting from an industrial to the informationsociety.Important technological achievements in the secondhalf of XX century have completely changed the nature oftelecommunication – transport of information, picture orsound via a technological medium. New communicationtechnologies are a reason for the huge changes in theworld’s monetary system. Money has become electronic,stored in computers of the world’s banks. Markets todayare a result of a bond between computers and satellitecommunication technology.Four main trends have contributed development:constant progress of computer performance andreduction of costs, data digitalisation that enablesintegration of computers and telecommunicationtechnologies, development of satellite communication,optical fibres enabling transport of a high number ofmessages through one cable. Dramatic explosion ofcommunication over the past few years does not showany signs of slowing down.145
