monografija 200730146Digitalisation and speed are the foundation ofdevelopment of multimedia: what used to be differentmediums, requiring different technologies for theirtransport /picture, sound/ today can be combined onone medium, like for example, CD – ROM, computer...Computer speed doubles every eighteen months andit is now possible to turn a video tape into a picture ona personal computer and vice versa. Digitalisation hasplayed a part in the development of interactive mediums, enabling active participation and creation in what one isgoing to watch and listen.Such technological achievements have resulted inglobalisation manifesting itself in an astronomical rise ofa number of telephone calls. In 1982 number of minutesused in phone calls was 12 billion, in 1996 that numberrose to a staggering 67 billion minutes.Internet use will further expand international telephonetraffic in future. Internet access and a number of usersare growing at phenomenal speed due to constant fall inprices of on line activities.Mobile phones were a new phenomena in the field oftelecommunication in the 1990’s and gained popularityvery quickly. Technology hardly ever stagnates andwhen it comes to mobile phones it is moving in leapsand bounds. Third generation of mobile phones takesus into an era of wireless internet. Wireless ApplicationProtocol – WAP makes it possible for text informationfrom internet to transfer and appear as text on the screenof a mobile phone. Computers will not be necessaryanymore in order to access internet or telephones, although they will remain a popular medium for longernet surfing and searching. In a world of such technological achievements no one canpredict what will happen in future. Many see internet asthe new global order coming into being at the beginningof a new millennium. Internet users live in cyberspace, space for interaction made possible through a globalcomputer network that makes up internet. Internetchanges the contours of our everyday lives – bordersbetween local and global are erased, new channels ofcommunication and interaction are open.Dramatic fall in prices of computers and communicationtechnology have enabled engineers to work moreefficiently. Traditional goals of a transport system havenot changed, but information technology has providednew channels in achieving them. This is how intelligentsystems came into being. Intelligent transport systemsare useful tools in finding solutions for vital problems forall transport types:oooooFinding optimal solutions for the work of signalsin traffic search in real timeEarly detection of traffic accidentsCo-coordinating traffic on motorwaysAvoiding accidents through the early warningsystemsCollection and distribution of information aboutcongestion in order to protect those on theroad and provide best routes and timeframe forplanned journeys
