<strong>Unit</strong> 5 <strong>Becoming</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>Effective</strong> <strong>Teacher</strong> <strong>##</strong> In this Discussion, you will apply what you are studying to two scenarios.<br />
Please carefully read each scenario <strong>an</strong>d respond to both. Try to imagine yourself as the teacher. What would you do?<br />
Scenario 1 You have <strong>an</strong> effective class-m<strong>an</strong>agement system whereby free time is earned for completing assigned class<br />
work. John never gets his work done <strong>an</strong>d therefore never gets free time. You feel badly, but a rule is a rule. John <strong>an</strong>d<br />
you are both frustrated. What do you do? How c<strong>an</strong> you keep students like John on task? What teacher characteristics<br />
would result in a positive outcome for this scenario? What teacher characteristics would impede a successful resolution?<br />
Justify your actions. Scenario 2 You teach a lesson <strong>an</strong>d then give a follow-up worksheet to be completed by all pupils<br />
while you conduct individual student conferences. You are frequently interrupted with questions, <strong>an</strong>d you are unable to<br />
give your undivided attention to specific students during the individual discussion sessions. You find yourself<br />
increasingly <strong>an</strong>gry with the class. What would make this a well-m<strong>an</strong>aged classroom? What do you do? Justify your<br />
actions. As you read to your classmates response to the scenarios, consider how their responses are similar or different<br />
from your own. Are their additional perspectives or actions you did not consider? Remember that your goal for the<br />
Discussion Board is three-fold: 1. To participate actively throughout the entire week. 2. To contribute in a way<br />
that adds to the discussion <strong>an</strong>d moves it forward in <strong>an</strong> original fashion. 3. To use the course content to inform your<br />
posts <strong>an</strong>d responses. Keep in mind that when you post, you should always reference items you cite--be sure to use<br />
APA format for this. Also, be sure to refer back to the rubric as often as you need to during the week. The class is all<br />
about sharing knowledge, so use discussions as a way of creating a community resource for yourself <strong>an</strong>d your<br />
colleagues.<br />
