Travel through Time with Guildford Museum
Visit Guildford Museum to travel from a time before history to the world of modern man. Our
unique displays exploring the local history of Guildford bring together important artefacts from the
borough collection as well as historical treasures generously loaned by Surrey Archaeological Society
and private collectors.
Finds Identification
Finds identification sessions are held at Guildford Museum on the second
Saturday of each month from 11am to 1pm and visitors are encouraged
to bring along any items found locally.
Finds Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, David
Williams, will be able to provide advice on the importance of the find, its
conservation and storage, and how it relates to the Treasure Act.
If you’ve come across an archaeological find whilst out walking or using
a metal detector, bring your find along for assessment and find out more
about it. Pottery, flints and metalwork are all welcome, however, we do
not provide information on fossils.
Could that piece of metal provide a clue to Guildford’s past? Bring it along and find out.
Hold a piece of history in your hands!
Did you know that Guildford Museum runs a loans service for schools
and community groups offering a wide range of historical artefacts,
replica objects and useful resources such as booklets, teachers’ notes,
CDs and DVDs?
Loans boxes include pre- historic axes and Roman objects as well items
from later times including World War II.
Why not book a box to inspire a range of activities for your group or school.
Hire fee: £10 for a three week loan period. Contact Guildford Museum to find out more T: 01483 444751
Don’t forget to check out our Events and Activities programme to see the events we are
running related to our museum displays and collections, which includes Meet the Romans -
an activity for families.
