What You’re Saying!
What You’re Saying!
11
SMS Of The Day
n LET’S salute and give big
thanks to the comrades, like
Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, who
brought independence and peace
to the Namibian nation. Instead
of wasting our time complaining
about some of the leaders
of today who are engaging in
corruption because they did not
fight for the freedom and good
live they are enjoying today, let
us engage in constructive ways
to take Namibia forward.
Food For Thought
n THE pensioners of RÖssing paid
the price for not engaging actuaries
to testify for them. They lost the
case against RÖssing because they
did not know what is needed to
prove a case of this nature. RÖssing
had their actuary involved
the whole time. As expected, no
protection came from Namfisa,
mainly because Namfisa does
not know any better themselves.
Namfisa can just close down. It
adds no value for those they are
supposed to protect.
Bouquets And
Brickbats
n MADAM Fischer-Buder, it’s not
that the neighbourhood watch is not
doing the job, but rather that some
Make your views known. It costs
N$1 for 160 characters.
You will receive an acknowledgement
for ‘telling it like it is!’
Selected views will be published
in the newspaper.
We are subsidising the costs and
are not making profit from this
service to the public.
Tell it like it is!
NAMCOR
members are behaving strangely. I
experienced that in Academia where
they followed me to my house and
while I was waiting for the main gate
to open, they came close to my car
and shone those big spotlights on
me. Is that part of their job?
n DOES the new CEO of the City
of Windhoek know what he is doing
by ‘reshuffling’ managers?
Some of them will still perform
poorly, regardless of where they
are, but in the case of others, it is
so unfair. The person appointed
in a new position might: 1. not be
qualified for that post; 2. not have
any aptitude for or experience in
the new post; 3. have applied and
have been appointed for a specific
job in the former dispensation
with a reason (like being qualified
for instance).
n MINISTER Sophia Shaningwa,
please investigate the Khomas region
Build Together programme.
They are refusing to give ownership
letters to the owners of the houses
and charge them a lot of money for
reasons known only to them. They
forget the whole idea for Build Together
is to give houses to the poor.
Some people got those houses in
2000, but until now they don’t own
them. Please step in, minister, and
save us from these inconsiderate and
greedy people.
n PUBLIC enterprises minister
Leon Jooste, we are the employees
of RCC. Please come up with a
Official responses only may be
emailed to: smsfeedback@namibian.com.na
NB: We would also like to call on
members of the public to exercise
good judgement when sending their
comments to the newspaper. The
Namibian publishes the SMSes to
promote fair and civil discussion.
solution for RCC. Our question is,
what does the future hold for the
workers of RCC? Some of us are
still very young. Will government
be able to pay our salaries until
the age of 60 if RCC closes down?
n THIS might sound stupid to some,
but the real reason, in my opinion,
why we have a high number of road
accidents on our national roads is
because of slow moving vehicles
creating congestion on the roads.
They should completely do away
with the speed limit or at least increase
it to 140km/h-160km/h and
fine those who drive slowly. Believe
me, we’ll have fewer road accidents.
n THANKS to The Namibian
and Gwen Lister, in particular,
for laying out a foundation where
we as ordinary citizens can air
our views about daily corruption,
nepotism, GBV and about virtually
everything that goes on in our
beloved Namibia. Continue telling
it like it is!
n PASTOR Petrus Khariseb. Why
should he beat his stepson? If the
boy has become difficult, what about
just sending him to his father? We
should learn to find amicable solutions
to problems rather than resort
to force.
n JOB Amupanda only has to pay
N$365 per square metre for
land. That is less than I have
to pay just to tile my bathroom.
Looks like political
pressure is the only way to
make money in this country.
n WHY do we only have
permanent roadblocks outside
Windhoek? What about
the other towns, or is there
something that we as citizens
are not told?
n LIZE Ehlers and the
sponsors of Song Night
delivered a stellar show at
The Warehouse Theatre
last Wednesday night. One
can only wonder where she
finds these great Namibian
talents. Bravo!
Party Politics
n WHAT do we need to have
to prosper as a Namibian nation?
Is it the right President
or is it a correct ruling party?
All developments I think are
because of the ruling party.
Why not credit Swapo if we
see development? Think of
the party school, the think
tank, are those not good qualities?
n THE more I read about the
Swapo regional conferences, the
more I believe that politics is a
dirty game. My leaders, please let
us be impartial. It should be about
the best man or woman winning,
it should not be about the people
that you want.
n TWO Swapo councillors in the
Erongo region arrested on charges
of stock theft. I personally think
that they must be suspended from
their positions because they put the
party’s name in shame. Comrade
Heita must act now.
n THE Swapo congress is all about
mudslinging and who is supporting
who and not about policies to
improve Namibia. That should be
a major concern for all Namibians.
City Fathers
n FROM 12 to 13 June 2017, some
parts of Khomasdal had no water. I
called the municipality to enquire
at 08h00, 12h00, 15h00, and 18h00
and 13h00 the next day. Surprisingly,
my calls were promptly answered
by friendly and sympathetic staff.
I immediately calmed down. Whoever
was on duty then, thank you
very much for the good customer
service. God bless you and keep up
the good work.
n CITY of Windhoek, we need
electricity in Babylon. Until when
must we spend money on fuel for
generators? Our solar systems
are easy targets for thieves. Our
parents have been living here and
we were also born here and gave
birth too. Bring changes because
all you do is demand money for
land, but cannot provide us with
electricity. Help the government
to develop the country.
n CITY fathers, why do you only
develop the Moses Garoëb constituency,
what about the people near
Havana Primary School who are not
noticed? Shame on you constituency
councillor of Samora Machel. You
will feel our impact come the next
elections.
n THE municipality of Windhoek
will face a legal challenge soon
if they continue to abuse their
power to deny street vendors
the opportunity of economic self
empowerment.
n CITY of Windhoek, why are you
charging us N$30 for reprinting our
municipal bills? You are sucking us
dead 100%.
n THE government must take
charge of municipal areas where
the majority of the citizens live
in poverty due to unemployment.
To The President
n PRESIDENT Hage Geingob, your
Inspector General and your chief of
security are failing you. They did
nothing at all about the complaints
of officers. You are working with
unhappy officers all the time. We all
want to be warrant officers like the
First Lady’s security subdivision.
We are all doing the same job here
Please note that the opinions expressed do not
necessarily reflect the views of The Namibian.
and your chief of security knows
which divisions are not promoted
at State House.
n PRESIDENT Hage Geingob
inherited the economic problems
from former President Hifikepunye
Pohamba and the majority
are blind to that. All the blame
should be directed at Pohamba.
n PRESIDENT Hage Geingob,
commander in chief of the Namibian
Defence Force, there is too much
tribal conflict and politicking in the
NDF. When are you going to attend
to this problem? Tribalism is becoming
worse in the army.
n MR President, please do something
for the youth, especially
those from poor families who have
Grade 10 with 20 points. Please
give them a chance to join either
the army or police. The reason
why they cannot continue with
their education is because there
is nowhere to get support as the
families are unemployed.
Health
n OTJIWARONGO State Hospital
will not perform as long as it is
administered by its current matron,
who is doing it military style, with
his two close associates walking left
and right and running the show. He
needs managerial and interpersonal
skills. He can’t even talk properly
with the nurses, student nurses and
the cleaners, etc.
n MINISTRY of Health and Social
Services, please convince the useless
Aranos Town Council to build
public toilets for the residents. Our
people, particularly the pensioners,
suffer a lot when it’s pay day
and they have to use the bush. And
not even a single market was built
at this town.
n NAMIBIAN government, we, the
workers of the ministry of health,
want our overtime money. Just imagine,
people have worked tirelessly
through sleepless nights and now
nobody cares if they are compensated
or not. Please do something,
our leaders. What a shame!
n MINISTER of health, Omuthitugwonyama
State Clinic looks
like an old house left by its owner
after some years. You won’t believe
that it’s a health facility. Mice,
scorpions, lizards, etc. are roaming
around freely as they are out
in the bush. The facility needs a
revamp.
Police Matters
n I WENT to Wanaheda Police
Station to make a declaration on
Sunday and I was told that they
couldn’t write a police declaration
due to the fact that the papers were
locked in one of the offices and that
those manning the office don’t work
on weekends. Seriously? Are some
people deliberately undermining the
administration of President Hage
Geingob?
n REGIONAL police commander
of the Karas region, the Namibian
Police are doing a very lousy job at
Karasburg. Policing is nonexistent
and people are drinking alcohol
openly in town. There is no law
and order any more and no patrol
vehicle or foot patrols. Please help.
n HOW does the commissioner
of police justify his
position while there are
180 burglaries a week
in Windhoek and not a
single Namibian Police
patrol car seen during
the night?
Education
n WE, the students, are
very disappointed with
the service we get at
Mancosa, more specifically
from the student
support office. When
forwarding a query
to the student support
e-mail, one never
or hardly ever gets a
response, unless we
involve the Namibian
head of centre. Strangely,
however, if you miss
one instalment on your
tuition, they contact
you without delay. It’s
as if the only interactive
department at
Mancosa is the debt
collection section.
Labour
n WITH the economy
crashing and thousands
of people being retrenched,
one can only
hope that employees and
the ministry of labour
start appreciating employers.
The employees
and the ministry of labour
are major obstacles
to economic growth in
Namibia. Employers
are villainised and labour
laws pose a major
obstacle to employment,
productivity and growth.
Harambee!
n THE public must understand
the RÖssing
pension fund saga. The
people who contributed
to the surplus now get
almost nothing, while
the employees and the
employers who did not
contribute one cent to
the surplus get hundreds
of millions. Who
should have provided
protection to the pensioners?
Between the
employer and a defunct
regulator they were
doomed from the start.
n WE, the guards of
Independent Security
Service, are sick and
tired of being betrayed
about our salary rate. We
are paid between N$5
and N$6 per hour. The company has
branches at Arandis, Swakopmund,
Karibib and Usakos and obviously
makes good money all thanks to our
hard work. The ministry of labour
has proposed a salary structure for
security guards, but this company
is ignoring all that.
n THE superintendent of the
People’s Primary School hostel
is arrogant and inconsiderate
towards the hostel staff, and he
even insults us in front of the
pupils. And the principal is just
turning a blind eye to his poor
managerial skills.
Service Please
your future?
n CEO of Standard Bank Namibia
Baronice Hans, please take note that
the service rendered by the branch
at Karibib is very disappointing.
Imagine applying for RCP on 19
June, but still no deposit into the
customer’s account or any reasonable
response. Is this what you mean
by ‘Moving Namibia Forward’. I
need your urgent intervention on
this matter.
n FNB Namibia, can you fix your
excuse of an ATM at 25 Schonlein
Street in Windhoek West? Your
cellphone banking service also
sucks. Is that how you can help me?
n UNAM procurement training is in
shambles. Maybe it is time to bring in
someone who actually knows about procurement
in Namibia? Just a thought.
n USAVE Aranos, your floor tiles
are not up to standard and please,
deliver faster customer service by
employing more cashiers.
