Jerusalem is a small, cozy British
style bar with more than 350
brands of whisky, most of which
are single malts from all over the world,
including Israel. As a whole, Israelis drink
more beer than any other alcoholic beverage.
To satisfy that needs, the Glen also offers
20 brands of draught beer from all over the
world, in addition to the unique local brands
of beer.
As is usual in typical British pubs, most
of the Glen’s customers are regulars. This
naturally gives the place a homey and friendly
feeling, the kind of place where people
quickly get to know each other.
The Glen opened nine years ago and has
been serving its customers ever since. This
is no small feat on the local scene, where a
bar’s average life span is short. During this
time, the Glen was named the best beer bar
in Jerusalem several times and was cited as
one of the top bars in the country.
The Glen has operated under the same
management since it opened. It has tried
to bring its customers the best alcoholic
beverages with the best brands of beer, the
newest brands, new flavors and new styles.
With regard to whisky, the bar serves mainly
single malt Scottish whisky. The owners try
to increase the number of whisky drinkers by
making the beverage accessible and removing
the stigma it has in Israel of being “an old
man’s drink.” They also try to find potential
whisky consumers among their customers
by convincing them to try a whisky. In conjunction
with the major whisky importers,
the Glen organizes tastings sessions, as well
as events that introduce whisky.
