Four Uncommon Wedding Photography Tips
If you're doing the photography for someone's wedding you'll definitely want to get it right. This day is literally once in
a lifetime and you'll never get another chance to capture the moments. You'll need more than just an eye for good
pictures. Some of these tips bend the rules while others just don't occur to some people. Follow this advice, however,
and it will go a long way toward making your wedding album picture perfect.
1. 1. See the Bride Before The Wedding
That's right, you're going to have to break the cardinal rule that could destroy this couple forever...you're going to
have to insist on seeing the bride and groom before the wedding festivities begin. Yes they say it's bad luck, but let's
be real, once the wedding begins you will likely lose your chance of getting the perfect couple portraits. So before all
the chaos and commotion begins bring the two together. It may break tradition, but it will give them a wonderful
portrait to remember. You won't regret it and neither will they.
1. 2. Keep The Wedding Dress...White
At most traditional weddings, the bride usually wears, well, a long, flowing, white dress. Unfortunately some camera's
don't see that way. Often your camera will see a white splotch and adjust the brightness levels accordingly to
compensate. Unfortunately that means that your dress may turn out in the final photo as anything from off-white to a
dull light gray. A little known trick for this is to add positive exposure. Positive exposure compensation will correct this
error and your wedding dress will sparkle pearly white in every photo.
1. 3. Keep an Eye Out for The Moments
This is where having the “photographer's eye” does help a great deal. Every event in our lives is often remembered in
moments, small, special instances of time that still make us laugh or cry (sometimes both). Look for these moments
at every wedding. The kiss, the cutting of the cake, the arrival of the adorable ring bearer or the giggling flower girls
laughing point as one of his shoelaces come undone. Some of the smallest of moments make some of the most
breath taking and memorable photos.
1. 4. See the Wedding as Your Own
It may sound unorthodox, but don't think of this as a customer's wedding, a friend's wedding, or the wedding of
whoever you're doing it for. For the details to jump out you or to spot those special moments see this as your
wedding. What would you want to remember, what kind of details would appeal you when glancing through your
wedding album years from now? Remember what your producing is a work of art, and it reflects on you. Snap every
photo with that thought in mind, “Which pictures would I want in my album?”
