National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC is an autonomous instituting<br />
established by the UGC in 1994. The prime agenda of NAAC is to assess and accredit institutions<br />
of higher learning with all objective of helping them to work continuously to improve the<br />
quality of education. NAAC is a member of the International Network for Quality Assurance<br />
Agencies in Higher Education comprising of over 120 different national agencies engaged in<br />
Assessment, Accreditation and Academic Audit.<br />
Criteria for Assessment:<br />
(1) Curricular Aspects-(2) Teaching learning and Evaluation- (3) Research consultancy and<br />
Extension-(4) Infrastructure and learning Resources-(5) Student support and progression.<br />
(6) Organization and management-(7) Healthy Practices<br />
Process for Assessment and Accreditation:<br />
1. Preparation of the self-study Report by the Institution/ department based the parameters<br />
defined by NAAC.<br />
2. Validation of self-study Report by a team of peers through an on-site visit, presentation of a<br />
detailed quality report to the institution.<br />
3. The final decision an assessment and accreditations by the Executive Committee of NAAC.<br />
4. The accreditation process involves a preparation of a self-study report by the college and<br />
validation of this report by three to four members peer team consisting of vice-chancellors.<br />
Principals, Deans and Senior teachers, state. Based on the detailed criterion-wise evaluation<br />
considering several parameters and the key aspects the percentage institutional scores will be<br />
arrived at institutions scoring above 55% will only be accredited.<br />
In addition, an inn-depth analysis of the colleges; strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and<br />
areas of concerns will be presented to the college and discuss with the College authorities. The<br />
accreditation status is valid for a period of five years.<br />
NAAC is at present processing the assessment and accreditation of a large number of colleges<br />
from all over the country. The UGC and MHRD have notified that all colleges have to submit the<br />
self-study report for the process of assessment and accreditation before December 2003.<br />
