Apolytikion<br />
When You descended unto death, O Lord who<br />
yourself are immortal Life, then did You mortify<br />
Hades by the lightning flash of Your Divinity.<br />
Also when You raised the dead from<br />
the netherworld, all the Powers of the heavens<br />
were crying out: O Giver of life, Christ our<br />
God, glory to You.<br />
For the Feast<br />
As a priest according to the Law of God you<br />
offered up whole-burnt offerings, and they<br />
were most acceptable to Him, dressed in the<br />
vestments of the priesthood, O Zacharias. And<br />
you became a light, and you beheld mysteries;<br />
and clearly you displayed the signs and symbols<br />
of grace within yourself. And you, were<br />
assassinated by the sword in the Temple of<br />
God. O all-wise Prophet of Christ the Savior,<br />
join the Forerunner in praying that our souls<br />
be saved.<br />
Apolytikion of the Church<br />
Ιn giving birth, you did preserve your virginity;<br />
in your dormition you did not forsake<br />
the world O Theotokos. You were<br />
translated onto life, since you were the<br />
Mother of life; And by your intercessions do<br />
you redeem our souls from death.<br />
Kontakion<br />
Both Joachim and Anna from their sterility's<br />
stigma, and Adam and Eve from their mortality's<br />
ruin have been set free, O immaculate<br />
Maid, by your holy nativity. For this do your<br />
people hold celebration, redeemed from the<br />
guilt of transgression as they cry to you, "The<br />
barren one bears the Theotokos, the nourisher<br />

ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἐν Κυρίῳ. Ἡ ἐμὴ ἀπολογία τοῖς<br />
ἐμὲ ἀνακρίνουσιν αὕτη ἐστί. Μὴ οὐκ ἔχομεν<br />
ἐξουσίαν φαγεῖν καὶ πιεῖν; Μὴ οὐκ ἔχομεν<br />
ἐξουσίαν ἀδελφὴν γυναῖκα περιάγειν, ὡς καὶ<br />

EPISTLE READING<br />
CORINTHIANS 9:2-12<br />
Brethren, you are the seal of my apostleship<br />
in the Lord. This is my defense to those<br />
who would examine me. Do we not have<br />
the right to our food and drink? Do we not<br />
have the right to be accompanied by a wife,<br />
as the other apostles and the brothers of the<br />
Lord and Cephas? Or is it only Barnabas<br />
and I who have no right to refrain from<br />
working for a living? Who serves as a soldier<br />
at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard<br />
without eating any of its fruit? Who<br />
tends a flock without getting some of the<br />
milk? Do I say this on human authority?<br />
Does not the law say the same? For it is<br />
written in the law of Moses, "You shall not<br />
muzzle an ox when it is treading out the<br />
grain." Is it for oxen that God is concerned?<br />
Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It<br />
was written for our sake, because the plowman<br />
should plow in hope and the thresher<br />
thresh in hope of a share in the crop. If we<br />
have sown spiritual good among you, is it<br />
too much if we reap your material benefits?<br />
If others share this rightful claim upon you,<br />
do not we still more? Nevertheless, we have<br />
not made use of this right, but we endure<br />
anything rather than put an obstacle in the<br />
way of the gospel of Christ.<br />

The Lord said this parable: "The kingdom of<br />
heaven may be compared to a king who<br />
wished to settle accounts with his servants.<br />
When he began the reckoning, one was<br />
brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents; and as he could<br />
not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children<br />
and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his<br />
knees, imploring him, 'Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay<br />
you everything.' And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released<br />
him and forgave him the debt. But that same servant, as he<br />
went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred<br />
denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said, 'Pay what you<br />
owe.' So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, 'Have patience<br />
with me, and I will pay you.' He refused and went and put him<br />
in prison till he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw<br />
what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and<br />
reported to their lord all that had taken place. Then his lord summoned<br />
him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all<br />
that debt because you besought me; and should not you have had<br />
mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?' And in anger<br />
his lord delivered him to the torturers, till he should pay all his debt.<br />
So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not<br />
forgive your brother from your heart."

Εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος τήν παραβολὴν ταύτην· Ὡμοιώθη<br />
ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ βασιλεῖ, ὃς<br />
ἠθέλησε συνᾶραι λόγον μετὰ τῶν δούλων<br />
αὐτοῦ. ἀρξαμένου δὲ αὐτοῦ συναίρειν<br />
προσηνέχθη αὐτῷ εἷς ὀφειλέτης μυρίων ταλάντων. μὴ ἔχοντος δὲ αὐτοῦ<br />
ἀποδοῦναι ἐκέλευσεν αὐτὸν ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ πραθῆναι καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα<br />
αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ τέκνα καὶ πάντα ὅσα εἶχε, καὶ ἀποδοθῆναι. πεσὼν οὖν ὁ<br />
δοῦλος προσεκύνει αὐτῷ λέγων· κύριε, μακροθύμησον ἐπ᾿ ἐμοὶ καὶ πάντα<br />

παρεκάλεσάς με. οὐκ ἔδει καὶ σὲ ἐλεῆσαι τὸν σύνδουλόν σου, ὡς καὶ ἐγώ σε<br />
ἠλέησα; καὶ ὀργισθεὶς ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ παρέδωκεν αὐτὸν τοῖς βασανισταῖς<br />
ἕως οὗ ἀποδῷ πᾶν τὸ ὀφειλόμενον αὐτῷ. Οὕτω καὶ ὁ πατήρ μου ὁ<br />
ἐπουράνιος ποιήσει ὑμῖν, ἐὰν μὴ ἀφῆτε ἕκαστος τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τῶν<br />
καρδιῶν ὑμῶν τὰ παραπτώματα αὐτῶν.
This week’s Sermon<br />
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,<br />
In today’s Gospel, we find something very relevant<br />
to our lives and something that is at the very<br />
foundation of our salvation. Our Lord and Savior<br />
tells us how our salvation is in our own hands,<br />
and it is only by the mercy of God that we will be saved. Our separation from<br />
God is so vast that we cannot call ourselves His children unless we come back<br />
to Him like prodigal sons. God’s love for us is so immense that he will embrace<br />
us no matter how far we have gone from Him and how big of a mess we have<br />
created in our lives. God is merciful, and as we see in today’s Gospel, He will<br />
forgive all our sins in His Kingdom.<br />
There is however one condition; a simple condition, a condition that we<br />
are reminded about every time we say Lord’s Prayer. Forgive us our trespasses<br />
as we forgive the trespasses of others. Forgive us our debts as we forgive the<br />
debts of the others. Your salvation and my salvation, dear Brothers and Sisters,<br />
in Christ depends on our ability to forgive. Look right and look left and tell me<br />
if you can forgive people around you. If we cannot forgive the small trespasses<br />
of our friends, how can we expect God to look at us with mercy? If we do not<br />
know what mercy looks like how can we ask for it?<br />
I do not know about you but when I am honest with myself, and I close<br />
my eyes and I think about my life I get to the edge of despair because I have offended<br />
God so many times. The only thing that brings me back from the edge of<br />
despair is the fact that I know from today’s Gospel that God is willing to forgive<br />
the debts of us sinners no matter how big they are.<br />
We know that God loves us unconditionally, but in order to receive that love<br />
and the mercy that comes from it, we need to love our neighbors with the same<br />
kind of love.<br />
"Love one another as I have loved you so that they will know that you<br />
are my disciples." (John 13:34-35) If we do not love one another, I do not know<br />
whose disciples we are.
Κήρυγμα της Εβδομάδας<br />
Αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδελφές εν Χριστώ,<br />
Στο σημερινό Ευαγγέλιο, βρίσκουμε κάτι πολύ<br />
σχετικό με τη ζωή μας και κάτι που είναι το θεμέλιο<br />
της σωτηρίας μας. Ο Κύριος και Σωτήρας μας, μας λέει πώς η σωτηρία μας βρίσκεται<br />
στα χέρια μας και μόνο με το έλεος του Θεού θα σωθούμε. Ο απομάκρυνσή μας από<br />
τον Θεό είναι τόσο μεγάλη που δεν μπορούμε να αυτοαποκαλούμαστε παιδιά Του, αν<br />
δεν επιστρέψουμε κοντά Του σαν άσωτοι υιοί. Η αγάπη του Θεού για εμάς είναι τόσο<br />
μεγάλη που θα μας αγκαλιάσει ανεξάρτητα από το πόσο έχουμε απομακρυνθεί από<br />
Αυτόν και πόσο μεγάλο χάος έχουμε δημιουργήσει στη ζωή μας. Ο Θεός είναι<br />
εύσπλαχνος και όπως βλέπουμε στο σημερινό Ευαγγέλιο, θα συγχωρήσει όλες τις<br />
αμαρτίες μας στη Βασιλεία Του.<br />
Υπάρχει ωστόσο μία προϋπόθεση, μια απλή συνθήκη, μια κατάσταση την<br />
οποία θυμόμαστε κάθε φορά που λέμε την Προσευχή του Κυρίου. Συγχωρήστε μας τα<br />
αμαρτήματα μας όπως συγχωρούμε τα παραπτώματα των άλλων. Συγχωρήστε μας τα<br />
χρέη μας όπως συγχωρούμε τα χρέη των άλλων. Η σωτηρία σας και η σωτηρία μου,<br />
αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδελφές εν Χριστώ, εξαρτάται από την ικανότητά μας να<br />
συγχωρούμε. Κοιτάξτε δεξιά και αριστερά και πείτε μου αν μπορείται να συγχωρήσετε<br />
τους ανθρώπους γύρω σας. Αν δεν μπορούμε να συγχωρήσουμε τα μικρά αδικήματα<br />
των φίλων μας, πώς μπορούμε να περιμένουμε από τον Θεό να μας κοιτάξει με έλεος;<br />
Αν δεν ξέρουμε τι ακριβώς είναι το έλεος, πώς μπορούμε να το ζητήσουμε;<br />
Δεν ξέρω για εσάς, αλλά όταν είμαι ειλικρινής με τον εαυτό μου, και κλείνω τα<br />
μάτια μου και σκέφτομαι τη ζωή μου φτάνω στα όρια της απόγνωσης γιατί έχω<br />
προσβάλει τον Θεό τόσες φορές. Το μόνο πράγμα που με παρηγορεί είναι το γεγονός<br />
ότι γνωρίζω από το σημερινό Ευαγγέλιο ότι ο Θεός είναι πρόθυμος να συγχωρήσει τα<br />
χρέη από εμάς τους αμαρτωλούς, ανεξάρτητα από το πόσο μεγάλα είναι.<br />
Γνωρίζουμε ότι ο Θεός μας αγαπάει άνευ όρων, αλλά για να λάβουμε αυτήν<br />
την αγάπη και το έλεος που προέρχεται από αυτήν, πρέπει να αγαπήσουμε τον πλησίον<br />
μας με την ίδια αγάπη.<br />
«Αγαπήστε ο ένας τον άλλον όπως σας αγάπησα για να μάθουν ότι είστε<br />
μαθητές μου». (Ιωάννης 13: 34-35) Αν δεν αγαπάμε ο ένας τον άλλον, δεν ξέρω<br />
ποιανού μαθητές είμαστε.

Our festival is fast approaching. Before you know it, the<br />
weekend of September 10, 11, and 12th will be upon us. So, now is the time to<br />
think about how are we going to help our church.<br />
We can help in many ways! We all know the drill by now. We can either help<br />
during the week of the festival by skewering kabobs, cutting vegetables, or by putting<br />
the final touches together that will help this year's festival be another success.<br />
Most help will be needed during the 3 day weekend in various areas!<br />
We can also help by donating towards the festival, or by putting an ad in our<br />
festival ad book, as soon as possible. Anything you decide to do will be greatly appreciated<br />
and beneficial. Please let us know by calling the church office, so we can<br />
mark you down. As always, thank you in advance.<br />
ΦΕΣΤΙΒΑΛ<br />
ΧΡΕΙΑΖΟΜΑΣΤΕ ΤΗΝ ΒΟΗΘΕΙΑ ΣΑΣ!!<br />
Το φεστιβάλ μας πλησιάζει γρήγορα, στίς 10, 11, και 12 Σεπτεμβρίου. Tώρα<br />
είναι η ώρα να σκεφτούμε πώς μπορούμε να βοηθήσουμε την εκκλησία μας.<br />
Μπορούμε να βοηθήσούμε με πολλούς τρόπους, κατά τη διάρκεια της<br />
εβδομάδας του φεστιβάλ προετοιμάζοντας τα σουβλάκια, την κοπή των λαχανικών ή<br />
βοηθώντας στις τελικές λεπτομέρειες ώστε να είναι μια μεγάλη επιτυχία.<br />
Η μεγαλύτερη βοήθεια θα χρειαστεί κατά τη διάρκεια του<br />
Σαββατοκύριακου των 3 ημερών!<br />
Μπορούμε επίσης να βοηθήσουμε με τη δωρεά προς το φεστιβάλ ή με την<br />
τοποθέτηση μίας διαφήμισης στο διαφημιστικλό βιβλίο του φεστιβάλ μας, όσο το<br />
δυνατό συντομότερο. Οτιδήποτε αποφασίσετε να κάνετε, θα εκτιμηθεί ιδιαιτέρως,<br />
