20-63mm METRIC MDPE PIPE 

Insert liner into pipe & slacken 

nut until half the thread is 

visible 

NOTE: Liners are not 

required on black pipe.

Push & twist pipe into body 

through the nut, split ring & 

O-ring. 

Tighten nut firmly. For final 

tightening on 50 & 63mm use a 

Plasson wrench.

1. Undo the nut until 3-4 

threads are visible 

2. Insert the pipe in to the fitting

• Take the two shell halves apart

UNIVERSAL PIPE ADAPTORS: GALVANISED AND PVC 

Prepare pipe by ensuring that 

the end is free of grease and 

roughen outer surface with 

wire wool or similar. Cut pipe 

end square. 

Remove nut from end of fitting 

& discard white split ring. 

Push adaptor into fitting to the 

stop. Also push and twist the 

pipe until it meets the internal 

stop. 

Screw the nut tightly towards 

the body of the fitting. Final 

tightening with a wrench is 

essential. The installations 

should be firmly anchored 

against end loading 

IMPERIAL POLYTHENE PIPE ADAPTOR 



Cut pipe square. Remove nut 

from end of fitting & discard 

white split ring. Mount nut 

on pipe & assemble red split 

ring flush with end pipe (taper 

towards the nut). 

Push adaptor into fitting to the 

stop. Also push & twist the pipe 

until it meets the interal stop. 

Push plain end of adaptor 

into body of fitting, past the 

sealing ring to the stop. Hand 

tightening is sufficient. 

LEAD PIPE ADAPTORS 



Remove nut from fitting & 

discard white split ring. Mount 

nut on pipe followed by brown 

split ring & seal ring. 

Push both components onto 

the pipe until the seal ring 

is 20mm from end of pipe & 

touching the split ring. 

Enter pipe into fitting body & 

tighten firmly with a wrench. 

(It is important that the pipe is 

not pushed fully in to the stop 

in the fitting). 

NOTE: This product seals on the outside diameter of the pipe & it is therefore important that the lead pipe is in good 

condition on the external part of the pipe where the seal is made. Variation in lead piping sometimes results in 

oversize pipe. In these circumstance it may be preferable to use the white split ring provided with the fitting.

ADAPTOR SET FOR TABLE ‘X’ AND ‘Y’ COPPER 

Remove nut from fitting and 

discard white split ring. Except 

35, 42 & 54mm fittings, where 

white split ring is used as 

spacer. Push black rubber seal 

into fitting body & assemble 

components in the nut in the 

order show above 

Replace nut onto fitting body 

without tightening. Mark pipe 

at ‘X’ in order that pipe end 

reaches flange on body of 

fitting ‘Y’, as shown above. 



Push pipe through nut adaptor 

and metal ring, into body of 

fitting to ‘X’ mark on pipe as 

show. Wrench tighten nut on 

to body firmly using Plasson 

spanners or suitable wrenches. 

The metal grip ring must be 

replaced with new if adaptor is 

re-used. 

Remove any unsound material adhering to the pipe. 

Cut and de-burr pipe as necessary. Slide the Plass4 fitting 

end onto the pipe until it reaches the internal fins and a 

resistance point it felt. 

Important: Do not force pipe end past the resistance 

point before tightening as this may impair the joint. 

Tighten the nut against the body: Final tightening to be 

done with Plasson wrench or similar. 

Assemble the Metric P.E. joint as per the standard 

fitting, ensure the metal teeth are located in the grip ring, 

and pipe end does not pass the location fins in the body. 

DEDICATED PE TO COPPER Part Number 3510 

1. Cut copper pipe square and remove all burrs 

and sharp edges. 

2. Twist the pipe into the fitting through the 

rubber o-ring to the pipe stop. 

3. Wrench tighten nut onto body firmly using 

Plasson spanners or suitable wrenches. 

4. The metal grip ring must be replaced with new 

if adaptor is reused.

PlasShield Fitting Instructions 40 

PlasShield 

PlassShield TM fittings are available for Barrier Pipes in the following OD dimensions: 25mm, 

27.4mm, 32mm, 34.5mm and 65.8mm. Ensure the pipe and fittings are sized to suit each other. 

Step 1 

• Cut the pipe square. 

• Remove the nut, ring and barbed adaptor 

from the fitting body. 

• Mount the nut on the pipe and assemble 

grip ring flush with the end of the 

pipe (taper towards the nut). 

Step 2 

• Push barbed adaptor into the pipe until 

it reaches the stop. 

For underground installations, wrap the 

whole fitting and adjacent pipe with a self 

adhesive aluminium foil barrier tape (40 

microns thick) ensuring a 50% overlap of 

the tape and a 50-100mm length of pipe 

either side of the fitting to be wrapped. In 

addition the foid taped fitting should be 

protected with a self adhesive waterproof 

tape or petrolatum tape (Denso). 

Step 3 

• Push plain end of adaptor into the fitting 

body, past the sealing ring to the stop. 

• Tighten nut firmly with a wrench. 

NOTE: PlasShield TM , when installed in accordance with the instructions above, provides 

improved resistance to chemical permeation. PlasSheild does not guarantee absolute 

resistance. Applications may have rules, regulations and requirements, including those of the
