There are plenty of country songs about how to be a man. One<br />
way is to face the music, and two country crooners did that on<br />
Thursday.<br />
But an encounter with a journalist also prodded him to spill the<br />
beans before someone else did. The reporter bumped into Gilman<br />
in a public place and snapped a photo of him -- with his<br />
partner.<br />
“It was in that moment that I knew that I’d rather it be from me<br />
than you reading it somewhere else,” Gilman told fans. He also<br />
feared being ripped over his sexuality in an article.<br />

Gilman said. “Being a gay, male country artist is not the best<br />

Spencer was raised in the small town of Pinetop,<br />
Arizona by his mother, an accomplished music<br />
teacher and soprano vocalist. Her talent and love<br />
of music encouraged and influenced him to become<br />

Pat Yamin grew up in Michigan, lives in a 14 room Brooklyn Victorian with an<br />
amazing collection of quilts. Quilts tell silent stories of our past.<br />
“I found my first quilt top [the pieced work that is not a finished quilt] in<br />
Brimfield Massachusetts in 1969. I paid $12.50. I laugh now but it was the<br />
first step in my journey!”<br />
Pat worked as a counselor. “Quilting became my release, my sanctuary from<br />
a demanding job. I began to see quilts in a new light. These were women’s<br />
voices, their Twitter and Facebook in the time before electricity.”<br />
Pat’s vintage quilts were constructed by tearing or cutting 100% cotton<br />
scraps left from men’s shirts, dresses, curtains, etc. and sewn together by<br />
hand. “These quilts tell a story about the creator. Did she rely on scraps<br />
or did she have means to purchase fabric for her quilt top? Was it for a<br />
purpose, like a wedding, or was it practical, to keep warm? The quilt tells<br />
all. Stitching reveals a novice or experienced sewer. The embellishments, if<br />
any, fill-in a story. The quilt pattern will tell you where it originates. Motifs<br />
designate a geographical area. Some motifs are peculiar to an historical era.<br />
The quilts leave stories that are keeping these women’s voices alive,” said<br />
Pat<br />
Quilting was often community experience. “Women would work on a single<br />
quilt for a communal purpose. Like the AIDS Memorial quilt that was made<br />
several years ago, quilters bring social issues and problems to the public<br />
awareness. Today’s quilters are making quilts for hundreds of charities,<br />
cancer victims and their survivors, veterans, abused children, natural<br />
disaster victims, and shelters for people and animals. Quilters are a special<br />
group of men and women who are sharing their talents and creativity to<br />
help others not wanting or expecting in return. In that spirit I donated a<br />
Victorian Crazy Quilt to the Firemen’s Museum for raise funds for firefighters<br />
injured or lost during 9/11” stated Pat.” Quilters’ hands open wide like their<br />
hearts.”<br />
“The skills we learned as children are not always passed down. The<br />
immediacy of today’s world, has taken some traditions that bond<br />
generations. Children often lack the patience and skill to sew a button! It is<br />
a shame – we all lose a bit of our past as these skills become footnotes to<br />
history,” noted Pat.<br />
Pat keeps the art of quilting alive through her books, lectures and classes. “I<br />
teach hand and machine quilting. Quilting is non-sexist, non-denominational<br />
and an equal opportunity activity.” laughs Pat. “My business was built on<br />
bringing the tools – templates, material, supplies – to quilters of all levels. By<br />
providing a resource, I provide a link from the past to the present to future<br />
quilters. Quilts always tell a unique story, our own individual story. Just like<br />
the hundreds of antique quilts I cherish, each modern quilt tells no less a<br />
story.”<br />

Of The Arts”, the president of the Artists Council has stated that<br />
the council and museum are bringing more working local artists<br />
together to represent their work. Of course the masters and<br />
maestros of yesteryear showcasing their art all over the world in<br />
art museums. As a world class art museum would, Palm Springs<br />
Art Museum continues to grow and expand in support of our<br />

Greater Palm Springs Pride weekend, recently shut down Palm<br />
Canyon for a celebration beyond compare. Who does not love<br />
a happy, fabulous, drag queen, or scantily clad men celebrating<br />
their freedom? Our dear friend, Ariel Trampway is the drag queen<br />
extraordinaire, with a heart of gold, as big as her hair! Our friend<br />
and Ambassador of Palm Springs, Bella de Ball is respected and<br />
loved, as big as her balloon. She now has her very own star, next<br />
to other walk of fame celebrities right on Palm Canyon Drive.<br />
An important thing to remember about these two glam and fab<br />
gals is, the higher the hair, and the higher the heels, the closer<br />
to heaven! With all of the Pride celebrations, it is important to<br />
remember, that we still have 13 countries where it is a death<br />
sentence for being gay! In many other countries you can be<br />
imprisoned just for being gay! One of the many blessings, and<br />
beautiful gifts is freedom for all. One drag queen in the West<br />
Village in New York City had enough! After too many times of<br />
arrests, and unending harassment, she threw a brick that was<br />
felt around the world, to give us PRIDE, which is known as Stone<br />
Wall. With this historical act we built our own self love, and gained<br />
acceptance, which is paramount for happiness and freedom.<br />
Lon and myself were so grateful and honored to be a part of the<br />
Tram Challenge. This was super hard, but the rewards were worth<br />
it. We started at the bottom of the Tram Station, We ran and<br />
walked up over 2000 feet with over 1700 people. All ranging in<br />
age from 7 to 92 years old, we reached our goal to the top, a total<br />
distance of 3.7 miles. As we arrived back at the base, there were<br />
hundreds of cheers and treats, with an amazing outpouring of<br />
love. The Tram Way Challenge is for the support of the local United<br />
Way. One of the benefactors is our very own Desert Blind and<br />
Handicapped Association, which is dear to our hearts.<br />

in need. This service is for the blind, strokes survivors, and the<br />
physically challenged, or anyone who is in need of a ride and<br />
a helping hand. The non profit helps to keep these wonderful<br />
people in their own homes and independent. Please help if you<br />
are able. Just $20 dollars donated can make a world of difference<br />
for someone who desperately needs transportation. Please go to<br />
the web site and donate. DBHA just needs 600 people to donate<br />
$20 dollars. This amount will keep our matching funds and expand<br />
rides, and help even more people in need. For the price of latte<br />
and a doughnut, you will be the angel of wheels for someone in<br />
need.

Robbie Rogers knows better than<br />
most that keeping secrets can crush<br />
you. But for much of his life Robbie<br />
lived in paralyzing fear that sharing<br />

soccer player. Or he could be<br />
an out gay man. He couldn’t do both.<br />
Then last year, at the age of twentyfive<br />
and after stepping away from a<br />
brilliant career—one that included<br />
an NCAA Championship, winning<br />
the MLS Cup, and competing in the<br />
Olympics—he chose to tell the truth.<br />
But instead of facing the rejection<br />
feared, he was embraced—by his<br />
family, by his teammates, and his<br />
fans.<br />
Anders Lindegaard, the goalie for Manchester United, may<br />
be straight but he’s thoughtful and wise enough to know it<br />
would be good for his sport to have a gay player come out.<br />
“Gay people need a hero,” he writes in a column in the UK<br />
newspaper The Sun.<br />
“They need someone who dares to step forward and stand<br />
for their sexuality.”<br />
The 27-year-old footballer added: “Of course it is a problem<br />
for young gay guys who love football, and feel they must<br />
stop their sport. Any discrimination is totally unacceptable,<br />
regardless of whether it is to do with color, religion or sexuality.<br />
A gay player would fear the reception he gets from fans.<br />
My general impression is that other players would accept a<br />
gay player without any major problems.”<br />
Straight allies like this are critical when it comes to gay players<br />
coming out some day – hopefully soon. By expressing<br />
his support prior to a gay player doing so, Lindegaard is doing<br />
a world of good.<br />

of Fashion Group International (FGI) held its <strong>2014</strong><br />
Crystal Style Award Benefit Luncheon on Sunday,<br />
<strong>November</strong> 16. The sold out luncheon, held poolside,<br />
was attended by 100 guests at the beautiful estate<br />
of Steve and Joelle Stanbridge in Palm Springs.<br />
Fedor Rogovets (Fedor) was presented with FGI’s<br />
prestigious Crystal Style Award for his outstanding<br />
couture fashion designs. Fedor, a resident of Palm<br />
Springs, has been designing his custom-made pieces<br />
for women for over 15 years. Other prior winners<br />
of FGI’s Crystal Style Award include such prominent<br />
names in the fashion world as James Gallanos,<br />
Lourdes Chavez, Trina Turk, and Perry Wolfman, and<br />
many more.<br />
The program included a fashion show by Fedor in<br />
which he displayed many of his couture pieces as<br />
well as his newly created ready-to-wear line. His<br />
well received fashion show was preceded by the<br />
incredible performance by the One And Many Voices<br />
of singer/songwriter Jimmy James.<br />
Guests included many of the Desert’s well known<br />
philanthropists such as Helene Galen, Jean Carrus,<br />
Sharon Gray, and Gayle Hodges. Also, from the<br />
local fashion industry were Eloise Lapidus, Karen<br />
Cantrell, Claudia Lua, Bobbi Eakes, and Kevin Hees.<br />
All attendees praised the entire event including the<br />
efforts of Tim Simanek, the catering manager of<br />
Jensen’s who catered the event.<br />

Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock<br />
band formed in 1967 in London. Due to numerous<br />
line-up changes, the only original member<br />
present in the band is its namesake, drummer<br />
Mick Fleetwood. Although band founder<br />
Peter Green named the group by combining<br />
the surnames of two of his former bandmates<br />
(Fleetwood, McVie) from John Mayall's Bluesbreakers,<br />
bassist John McVie played neither on<br />
their first single nor at their first concerts, as he<br />
initially decided to stay with Mayall. The keyboardist,<br />
Christine McVie, who joined the band<br />
in 1970 while married to John McVie, appeared<br />
on all but the debut album, either as a member<br />
or as a session musician. She also supplied<br />
the artwork for the album Kiln House.<br />
The two most successful periods for the<br />
band were during the late 1960s British blues<br />
boom, when they were led by guitarist Peter<br />
Green and achieved a UK number one with<br />
"Albatross"; and from 1975 to 1987, as a more<br />
pop-oriented act, featuring Christine McVie,<br />
Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Fleetwood<br />
Mac's second album after the incorporation<br />
of Buckingham and Nicks, 1977's<br />
Rumours, produced four U.S. Top 10 singles<br />
(including Nicks' song "Dreams"), and remained<br />
at No.1 on the American albums chart<br />
for 31 weeks, as well as reaching the top spot<br />
in various countries around the world. To date<br />
the album has sold over 45 million copies<br />
worldwide, making it the sixth-highest-selling<br />
