President Ajibola gives a plaque to Wages CommissionChairman, Chief EgbuleNSE takes demand for enhanced salaries for engineersin Civil Service to wages commissionThe Nigerian Society of Engineershas called on theNational Income, Salariesand Wages Commission toimplement without delay anenhanced entry point intothe civil service for engineersas was the case withother professionals.The President of the NigerianSociety of Engineers,Engr. Olumuyiwa Alade Ajibolamade the call when hepaid a courtesy call on theChairman of the Commission,Chief Richard OnwukaEgbule in Abuja.“We are worried that theplacement of Engineers onSalary Grade level 08 step 4on entry into the civil servicehas not taken into accountthe peculiarities associatedwith the training, workschedules and responsibilitiesof engineers.We note that other professionalslike Doctors, Lawyers,Accountants and Geologistsare placed on enhanced entrypoints in the public servicewhile this is not the case forengineers”, Engr Ajibola said.According to him, the societyhas since 2005 made proposalsto the government for theimprovement of conditions ofEngineering practice in Nigeriawhich he said led to agovernment whitepaper onStrategic plans for EngineeringDevelopment and Controlin Nigeria amongst which is aproposal for an engineeringsalary structure.Engr. Ajibola noted that otherprofessionals like Doctors,Lawyers, Accountants andGeologists were placed onenhanced entry points in thepublic Service.“We therefore seek yoursupport for a new entrypoint to be approved. Weask that the entry point forengineers into the publicservice should be Gradelevel 10 step 4 and that engineersshould be upgradedto GL 12 step 5 immediatelythey get registered withCOREN while those alreadyregistered with COREN onentry will be on grade level12 Step 5” , the NSE Presidentsaid.Responding, the Chairmanof the National Income,Salaries and Wages Commission,Chief Egbule expressedshock that engineerswere not taken alongwith other professionals. Heasked the society to fight forthe revision of the schemeof service for engineerswhich he said was the onlyway the society can achieve
