Central Valley Corvettes - December 2016

The Central Valley Corvette Club was
chartered in 1991 for the owners of the only
REAL AMERICAN sports car, the awesome
CORVETTE. It's a social organization with
activities that provide enjoyment for the true
Corvette lover.
MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE HELD
AT 6.30 P.M. ON THE 3 RD TUESDAY
OF EVERY MONTH AT YOSEMITE
FALLS CAFE, 4278 W. ASHLAN AVE,
FRESNO CALIFORNIA. INTERESTED
CORVETTE ENTHUSIATS ARE
MORE THAN WELCOME TO
ATTEND THE MEETINGS AND MEET
OUR MEMBERS.
Club activities include monthly meetings,
car shows, weekend Club activities,
overnighters, picnics, road rallies, summer
cruises, holiday get-to-gathers and more!
Eligibility for membership in CVC is
defined in Article III, section 1 of the
bylaws in part as follows: "Membership in
Central Valley Corvettes shall be open to all
Corvette owners who are sponsored by a
member in good standing. Additionally, a
prospective member must, within a three
month period, attend two consecutive
meetings, participate in two club sanctioned
social activities, pay current membership
dues and initiation fees, and be approved by
two- thirds vote of membership present at
any general membership meeting by secret
ballot.
Sponsors shall be responsible for advising
prospective member of results. All members
must submit proof of personal insurance in
accordance with California State Law upon
application for membership, and all
members must be a member of the
association providing club liability insurance
for CENTRAL VALLEY CORVETTES.
A prospective member who does not have a
sponsor will be provided one by the
membership committee. Non-members may
not participate in more than three meetings
or two sanctioned activities.
CVC membership dues are $67.00 plus an
initiation fee of $35.00. Membership entitles
two members at the same address voting
privileges at meetings (provided they are in
good standing) and membership rights.

This is my last letter as your president and
I would like to thank the entire club
membership for providing me with a truly
great experience these last two years. I
enjoyed the meetings, mystery runs and
even writing this letter monthly. It is the
other board members who really make an
organization like ours run smoothly and
we all owe them a debt of gratitude. Skip
Severance as VP Activities, Mike Lebda as
Treasurer, Dick Danielsen and Charlotte
Renna as VP Public Relations and
Membership and Debby Anderson as
Secretary are all to be commended for the
time and effort they put in fulfilling their
duties. The job of President is a piece of
cake when you have a great board doing
the real heavy lifting.
Also, many thanks to Sergeant at Arms
Chuck Laningham, Sunshine and Clouds
Jan De Mello/Pflepsen and our Raffle Lady
Susan Walker. They made our meetings
enjoyable and in Susan’s case very
profitable. Charlie Fosnaugh continues to
produce a first class newsletter for us so
thanks to him and also folks who
contribute to the Newsletter.
Congrats to the incoming board. I think it’s
a good mix of seasoned club members and
relatively new ones. It looks like we’re
leaving the club in good shape for them.
Membership is up. At last count were up to
96 members. The treasury is flush thanks to
the online Newsletter and awesome raffles.
We continue to have interesting runs and it
seems the participation by members on
runs has increased. I really enjoyed putting
on the Mystery Runs. Half the battle was
coming up with a destination that was new
and interesting to a well-traveled
membership.
Ed Dena, owner of Ed Dena’s Auto Center
has agreed to sponsor the club again for
2017. His financial contribution really helps
our treasury so if you want to purchase an
auto or need service remember to keep Ed
in mind.
It’s time for our annual Christmas Party and
Hayride. It’s a lot of work to put these on so
thanks to Debbie and Keith Garrison for the
Christmas Party and Charlotte Renna for the
Hayride.
As I sign off for the last time one last big
thank you to the entire club membership for
their participation, help and friendship
these last two years. As we used to say in
the Air Force, “it’s been a good run”.

Sgt. at Arms Chuck Laningham collected the
missing badge fees.
Jan Plepsen gave her always interesting
Sunshine and Clouds report.
Ed Dena’s sponsorship invoice has been sent
and He will be invited to our Christmas party
when he has renewed his sponsorship.
Lynn Henenfent has found Firecrest in
Kingsburg where we can now get the club shirts,
hats or anything else you might want at a faster
turnaround time.
The Annual Meeting was called to order by
President Gary Pflepsen at 6:30 pm.
Minutes from the October meeting were read
by Debby Anderson, Secretary. Aimee Parkin
made a motion to accept the minutes as read
and Tom Jarvis seconded. Motion carried.
Craig Hansen Parliamentarian, handed out the
ballots for this year’s Election.
Treasurer Mike Lebda gave the Treasurer’s
report. He stated that we are handing over
the finances with more in the account then
when he took over and attributed that to
several things, one of them being the great
response to our monthly raffles.
VP of Activities Skip Severance had the leaders
of the past month’s runs report on how they
went. Upcoming runs are: Santa Haul Dec. 7 th ,
Christmas Party Dec. 8 th , Hay Ride Dec. 11 th ,
Coast Zip Line Dec.27-30 th , Super Bowl Feb 5 th ,
Laughlin Apr 20-22 nd , Clovis Rodeo Parade Apr
29 th , Lake Tahoe May 17-20 and Colorado
Rocky Mt High 4 July 18 th .

1. FROM CHARLOTTE RENNA; SHE AND BOB RETURNED RECENTLY FROM MAUI, HAWAII IN THE
TOWN OF KEHAI. THEY STAYED WITH HER SISTER AND HUSBAND (ROSEMARY AND BOB). THE
WEATHER WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AND IT WAS SUCH FUN TO VISIT WITH FAMILY.
2. FRED PARKS IS SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY ON HIS RIGHT HAND ON NOVEMBER 28. THE
SURGERY WAS DESCRIBED AS CARPAL TUNNEL WITH OTHER PROCEDURES TO BE PERFORMED
AT THE SAME TIME.
3. CHUCK AND LINDA LANINGHAM HAVE A BIT OF NEWS, ALSO. THEY ATTENDED THEIR
GRANDDAUGHTER MEGHAN AND ELI’S WEDDING IN AUSTIN, TEXAS ON NOVEMBER 11. IT
WAS A SMALL BUT BEAUTIFUL WEDDING. THEY ALSO WERE ABLE TO VISIT THEIR BEST FRIEND
JACKIE AND HER HUSBAND ED. ED HAS BRAIN CANCER AND IT MIGHT BE THEIR LAST TIME
TO SEE HIM. IT WAS BITTER SWEET BUT THEY ARE HAPPY TO BE HOME.
4. ROY AND MARYANN WHITSON RETURNED FROM A 12-DAY TRIP TO EGYPT, WHICH INCLUDED
A SEVEN DAY FIVE NIGHT RIVERBOAT CRUISE ON THE NILE. THEY STARTED IN CAIRO AND
WENT BEYOND ASWAN TO THE CLIFF TEMPLES OF ABU SIMBEL. THIS WAS A BUCKET LIST ITEM
FOR ROY (ALTHOUGH MARYANN ENJOYED IT TOO.) THERE WAS SOME CONCERN ABOUT
SAFETY, BUT THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF AT LEAST PERCEIVED SECURITY EVERYWHERE
BEGINNING WITH POLICE WITH ASSAULT WEAPONS AND BOMB DOGS AT THE AIRPORT AND
ALSO AT CHECK POINTS IN NUMEROUS LOCATIONS AROUND THE CITY, AS WELL AS METAL
DETECTORS IN EVERY HOTEL WE WENT INTO. THEY FOUND THE EGYPTIANS TO BE FRIENDLY,
NO DOUBT BECAUSE OF THE TOURISM, WHICH IS SO VITAL TO THE ECONOMY WHICH HAS
REPORTEDLY DROPPED BY ABOUT 60%. THEY SAW THE GREAT PYRAMIDS (5,000 YEARS OLD),
THE SPHINX, AND NUMEROUS OTHER TEMPLES, TOMBS AND MUSEUMS IN CITIES ALONG THE
NILE. THEY ALSO RODE CAMELS AT THE PYRAMIDS. DRIVING IN CAIRO MAKES LA TRAFFIC
SEEM SIMPLE, SO LUCKILY THEY ALWAYS HAD LOCAL DRIVERS. NASCAR DRIVERS WOULD
HAVE TO TRAIN TO DRIVE THERE. IF YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO VISIT EGYPT, THEY WOULD
ENCOURAGE TO DO SO.
5. JOYCE KROEKER HAS SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT OUR DEAR ED. IT SEEMS THE PRAYERS AND
RADIATION WORKED. THE CANCER TUMOR IS GONE. CHEERS!!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR
PRAYERS AND GOOD THOUGHTS.
6. STEVE AND LYDIA GARCIA WERE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND THE MEETING BECAUSE THEY WERE
BABYSITTING 3 OF THEIR GRANDCHILDREN WHILE THEIR MIDDLE DAUGHTER IS IN HAWAII
WITH HER HUSBAND. BRAVE GRANDPARENTS, YOU ARE!
7. EMILY PIERCY NOW HAS HER OWN CORVETTE…….IT IS A 2010 GRAND SPORT. THE COLOR IS
SIBER GRAY. CONGRATS, EMILY!!

CVC Activities Schedule
So far by year end 2016 we will have completed 34 runs and ironically that
is how many we did in 2015. Thanks to all of you who did runs. Please

After all that is the most important thing we do in this club. I enjoyed
