ARE YOU ON SOCIAL SECURITY?<br />
If you are receiving Social Security benefits, you can have some unique tax<br />
issues. For example:<br />
• For those with modest income other than social security, fluctuations in<br />
your income can have a dramatic effect on your tax bill. This is because<br />
in certain income ranges, you are actually taxed twice on an increase in<br />
income - once on the additional income, and again by that same income<br />
causing an increase in the amount of social security income that is taxable.<br />
• If you have an unusually high income year, for instance if you cash in an<br />
annuity or sell some stocks, you can find that your Medicare premiums<br />
increase.<br />
Sometimes, these situations can be managed and minimized, with a little<br />
attention beforehand, or occasionally proper action after the fact. Be sure<br />
to keep your tax advisor informed of any significant income changes,<br />
before they happen.<br />
