Our semi-annual community wide garage sale date is Saturday, April 8 th . 

Come hunt for bargains at homes throughout the neighborhood. There is 

no rain date, so come shop rain or shine! 

STREETLIGHTS 

Please report any lights that are out, blinking or on during the day. Part 

of your annual Homeowners fee pays for your streetlights, whether they 

work or not. If a light is out in your area, please call 713-207-2222 or go 

to www.centerpointenergy.com/outage and report it. Each light pole 

should have a 6-digit number on it. When reporting the light, you will 

need to provide the pole number and closest intersection or address. We 

want all our lights to work… a well lit area is a safe area! 

SIGNS ON MAILBOXES, LIGHT POLES 

AND STREET SIGNS 

If you place signs in and around the neighborhood for Garage Sales, 

Lost Pets, etc., please make sure you remove them in a timely manner. 

Remember that postal boxes are the property of the USPS and it is a 

crime to attach anything to the cluster mailboxes! Please help to keep

TENNIS COURT USE 

We have received reports that children have been using the tennis courts 

for everything but tennis. Please reiterate to your children that use of the 

courts is for tennis play ONLY. No soccer, rollerblading, skateboarding, 

bike riding, basketball, etc. allowed. Children caught abusing the courts 

may cause their parents to be financial penalized for any damages. 

THE CITY OF HOUSTON URGES RESIDENTS TO 

SIGN UP FOR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS 

The City of Houston, in partnership with the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 

Emergency Network, is now offering emergency notifications to mobile 

phones through the Emergency Notification System (ENS). These emergency 

alerts will help residents get more information about emergencies in their 

neighborhoods, such as hazardous chemical spills, floods and large fires. 

Staying informed is an important way of keeping yourself and your family 

safe when emergencies occur. Landline home or work telephones are 

already a part of the ENS system and now residents can register their cell 

or internet phone numbers so they can be alerted about an emergency 

in their community. It’s simple and easy; sign-up at the City of Houston 

Office of Emergency Management website http://alert.houstonoem.org 

or http://911.org and register up to four telephone numbers. 

Houstonians can also register for ‘Alert Houston,’ the City of Houston’s 

Email Notification System, which sends emails to residents when 

emergencies affecting a large portion of the city occur, such as severe 

weather and hurricanes. Find out more about both AlertHouston and 

ENS by visiting http://alert.houstonoem.org. 

RECREATION VEHICLES AND TRAILERS 

We have been receiving numerous reports about all terrain vehicles 

being ridden along the drainage ditch areas and power line easements. 

As a reminder, this is private property and we have instructed the 

Constable Patrol to monitor the areas and write citations for trespassing, 

as well as deterring safety hazards. We have also noticed personal utility 

trailers being parked behind fences along the drainage ditch and will be 

collecting license plate information to determine ownership for violation 

notices from the Association, as well as the Constable Patrol issuing 

citations for trespassing on private property. Towing of the trailers could 

be an end result as well. 

CONSTABLE PATROL 

As a reminder, the Association has a patrol contract through Harris 

County Precinct 5 Constable. We share 40 hours of patrol per week at 

random time with Aberdeen Trails HOA. Please add the following dispatch 

number to your cell phones or post in a visible place at home in case you 

need support in a non life-threatening situation. Their non-emergency 

dispatch number is 281-463-6666. The Constable Patrol also offers a free 

vacation watch service. Log on to their website at www.co.harris.tx.us/ 

pct5/forms.aspx to obtain a form and learn more about the program. 

LOITERING AND VANDALISM 

Please help us to keep our recreation areas safe and clean by reporting 

any and all loitering after dark directly to the Constable and then to 

management. Please also remember to report any suspicious persons 

walking around the community or at the parks immediately to the 

Constable Patrol non-emergency dispatch number at 281-463-6666.

It’s that time of year again where everyone is out and about sprucing 

up their yards and performing the “honey-do’s” on their homes. Please 

remember that any change or improvement to the exterior of your home

HOUSTON WING - COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE 

2017 Open House & Vintage Aircraft Fly-In 

April 22-23, 2017 will be a weekend dedicated in recognition of the 

70 th anniversary the formation of the United States Air Force as the 

Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Houston Wing presents its annual Open 

House at the West Houston Airport. This event provides a rare opportunity 

for the public of all ages to immerse themselves in the sights and sounds 

of WWII and other authentic vintage military aircraft, which played a 

huge role in our American history. In addition to aircraft, several historic 

military vehicles will be on display as well as a very unique anti-aircraft 

gun trailer exhibit from the Battleship Texas. Our hangar’s WWII museum 

will also be open and docents will be available to help all ages enjoy the 

museum’s displays. West Houston Airport is located at 18000 Groschke 

Rd., 2 miles north of I-10 and between Hwy. 6 and Barker Cypress, will be 

the place to visit on Saturday and Sunday, April 22 nd and 23 rd from 10 

AM to 5 PM. The admission fee is $10 per car, which goes to supporting 

the organizations efforts to keep these aircraft flying. The airport gates 

will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM. Food, drinks and souvenirs and vintage 

aircraft rides will be available for purchase. For additional information,

NATURE PROGRAMS FOR PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN 

THE TITMOUSE CLUB: 

The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½ to 5 

sponsored by the Houston Audubon Docent Guild. The program is 

offered every Tuesday and Wednesday morning, 10 to 11 AM, from 

mid-September until mid-May at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, 

440 Wilchester Boulevard. Each week features a different nature theme 

and may include nature talks, stories, hands-on activities and walks in

hike, dip-net for fish and tadpoles in the ponds and get to know the plants

CORNERSTONE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE, MARCH 1 ST AT 7 PM 

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Season of Lent occurring forty 

days (excluding Sundays) before Good Friday. It is traditionally a 

time for worshippers to gather together with penitent hearts to have 

their foreheads marked with a cross of ashes in an act of penance and 

contrition before the Lord. On Wednesday evening, March 1 st at 7 PM, 

we will be having an Ash Wednesday worship celebration. This service 

will include the marking of ashes on each worshippers head followed 

by a quiet time of reflection at the altar. In addition, as we do each Ash 

Wednesday service, there will be something “extra” to illustrate God’s 

forgiveness of our sins. Special music will be provided by the Chancel 

Choir. This will be a meaningful service and everyone is invited to attend.

Lenten Study: Forty Days in the Force 

Join St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church on Wednesday nights March 8 th 

through April 5 th , from 6:30-7:30 PM for our Lenten series, Forty Days 

in the Force. All ages are invited to participate. We will explore the many 

spiritual themes that weave throughout the Star Wars films. From the 

Force to the dark side, the issues presented in the films have a moral 

and spiritual complexity that, if paid attention to, can help us better 

understand our place in the world and our relation to others and to 

God. Through Forty Days in the Force we hope to see the challenges and 

victories in our everyday Christian life. There will always be a teacher and 

a student and there will always be evil, but thanks to God and his Son, 

there will always be good and we will always have a purpose. Nursery will 

be provided for infants and toddlers. Star Wars activities will be provided 

for preschoolers. Those ages 6 through 106 will explore the force together. 

LIFEPATH CHURCH CLUB T3 AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM 

Lifepath Church is now enrolling for Club T3, our After-School Program for 

grades K-5 th . Club T3 will be every Mon-Fri, 4-6 PM, following the CyFair 

School District Calendar. This is a Faith based program designed to Train, 

Teach and Tutor students with academic enrichment opportunities that 

include tutoring, daily devotions, reading clubs, running, b-ball, dance, 

music, gardening, providing healthy snacks and much more. Cost is $40

FOSTER CHILDREN: PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING 

When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent. 

That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities 

arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out 

how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month. 

Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help prepare 

for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long course 

culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council for 

Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s BizTown,

VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH DIVISION 

HARRIS COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE 

Residents of Harris County must be aware of the regulations adopted by 

Commissioners Court to meet the standards of the “Texas Rabies Control 

Act of 1981.” This ordinance, enforced by Veterinary Public Health 

(formerly called Harris County Animal Control) is designed to protect 

the health and welfare of Harris County residents. 

• Requires the annual vaccination and registration of all dogs and cats 

four months of age and older. 

Vaccinated within the last twelve months or 

Vaccinated within the last 36 months provided that the animal was 

vaccinated twice within 12 months and the last vaccination was with a 

licensed 3-year vaccine. 

• Requires dogs and cats to be physically restrained at all times, without 

access to the Would Like Your Help 

• Sets a REGISTRATION FEE for all dogs and cats: Updated 8/2011 

$15 LIFETIME: for neutered dogs and cats. Proof of neutering required. 

$15 LIFETIME: for dogs and cats belonging to persons 65 years of age or 

older. 

• NOTE: All pets with lifetime registration must be vaccinated yearly 

against rabies. 

$75 TRIENNIAL LICENSE: for dogs and cats with qualifying vaccination 

status. Must provide proof of two rabies vaccinations within 12 months 

and the last vaccination must be with an licensed 3-year vaccine. 

$25 ANNUAL: fee for all other dogs and cats. 

$5 REPLACEMENT fee for Harris County tag. 

Sets an IMPOUNDMENT FEE plus a boarding fee to be charged for each 

animal picked up. Owner may also be issued a citation for allowing the 

animal to run loose. 

OTHER 

• Impounded animals shall be kept three days to allow the owner time to 

redeem them. 

• The occupant/head of household of any premises on which a dog or cat 

remains for a period of seven days is presumed to be the owner of that 

animal. 

• All animals suspected of rabies, or animals that bite, scratch or otherwise 

attack any person shall be impounded at the discretion of the County 

Health Officer, for a period of ten days under veterinary observation. 

• Violators of any provision of this order are guilty of a misdemeanor and 

are subject to a fine of up to $200 in a Justice of the Peace Court.

TAX SCAMS/CONSUMER ALERTS 

In recent years, thousands of people have lost millions of dollars and their personal 

information to tax scams and fake IRS communication. REMEMBER: The IRS doesn’t 

initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to 

request personal or financial information. In addition, IRS does not threaten taxpayers 

with lawsuits, imprisonment or other enforcement action. Being able to recognize 

these tell-tale signs of a phishing or tax scam could save you from becoming a victim. 

IRS-Impersonation Telephone Scams 

An aggressive and sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent 

immigrants, has been making the rounds throughout the country. Callers claim to be 

employees of the IRS, but are not. These con artists can sound convincing when they 

call. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. They may 

know a lot about their targets and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like 

the IRS is calling. 

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a 

pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then 

threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In 

many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting. Or, victims may be told they 

have a refund due to try to trick them into sharing private information. If the phone isn’t 

answered, the scammers often leave an “urgent” call back request. 

Note that the IRS will never: 

• Call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a 

prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill 

if you owe any taxes. 

• Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested 

for not paying. 

• Demand that you pay taxes without giving the opportunity to question or appeal the 

amount they say you owe. 

• Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone. 

Remember: Scammers Change Tactics - Aggressive and threatening phone calls by 

criminals impersonating IRS agents remain a major threat to taxpayers, but variations 

of the IRS impersonation scam continue year-round and they tend to peak when 

scammers find prime opportunities to strike. 

Surge in Email, Phishing and Malware Schemes 

The IRS saw an approximate 400 percent surge in phishing and malware incidents in 

the 2016 tax season. 

Scam emails are designed to trick taxpayers into thinking these are official communications 

from the IRS or others in the tax industry, including tax software companies. 

These phishing schemes can ask taxpayers about a wide range of topics. Emails 

can seek information related to refunds, filing status, confirming personal information 

ordering transcripts and verifying PIN information. 

Variations of these scams can be seen via text messages and the communications 

are being reported in every section of the country. 

When people click on these email links, they are taken to sites designed to imitate an 

official-looking website, such as IRS.gov. The sites ask for Social Security numbers 

and other personal information, which could be used to help file false tax returns. The 

sites also may carry malware, which can infect people’s computers and allow criminals 

to access your files or track your keystrokes to gain information.
