NLC ADMISSIONS DINNER 2018<br />

Notre Dame University-Louaize<br />

North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC)<br />

its annual Admissions Dinner 2018 for<br />

secondary school principals.<br />

The dinner was held under the dome<br />

of NLC’s new building. Present were<br />

Deputy Ali Darwish, also a part of the<br />

Alumni Association, NDU President<br />

Fr. Pierre Najem, NLC Director Fr.<br />

François Akl, Vice-President for<br />

Administration Fr. Samir Ghsoub,<br />

SC Director Fr. Naji Khalil, University<br />

Chaplain General Fr. Albert Assaf,<br />

University Chaplain at NLC Fr. Nabil<br />

Habchi, Vice-President for Academic<br />

Affairs Dr. Elie Badr, deans, faculty<br />

members, and staff.<br />

Following the national and University<br />

anthems, Raymond el-Khoury<br />

welcomed the audience and provided<br />

an overview of the role of the Office<br />

of Admissions at NLC.<br />

For his part, Fr. Akl emphasized the<br />

importance of education; as the main<br />

source of knowledge.<br />

He discussed the different majors<br />

at the NLC.He also noted that the<br />

Faculty of Law and Political Science<br />

(FLPS) is scheduled to open next<br />

semester at the NLC.<br />

He was proud that NLC’s Engineering<br />

programs were fully accredited<br />

by the Engineering Accreditation<br />

Commission of ABET.<br />

SUMMER CAMP AT NDU<br />

In the coming months, the University<br />

is expecting to receive the results of<br />

its institutional accreditation pursuit<br />

from the New England Association<br />

of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in<br />

the U.S.<br />

Fr. Akl highlighted the Civil Engineering<br />

Lab available at the NLC, which is<br />

the finest laboratory of its kind in the<br />

area. He concluded by saying that<br />

in terms of knowledge, schools are<br />

the river while universities are the<br />

sea. It is only through education and<br />

knowledge those future generations<br />

can go out into the world and make<br />

a difference.<br />

Fr. Najem noted the history of the NLC<br />

and its origins from the Monastery of<br />

St. Elissaa Bsharri and then its transfer<br />

to Chekka and finally Barsa.<br />

He added that the goal at NDU is to<br />

graduate an educated and virtuous<br />

human being.<br />

Darwish delivered a heartfelt speech<br />

in which he thanked the University<br />

administration, which he said he was<br />

proud to be a part of, and promised<br />

that he would continue to support<br />

NDU in the House of Representatives.<br />

During dinner, attendees watched<br />

a slideshow highlighting activities,<br />

perspectives, and facilities at NLC<br />

and listen to soothing tunes played<br />

by Docly Laoun on piano.<br />

The Department of Computer Science<br />

(DCS) at Notre Dame University-Louaize<br />

North Lebanon Campus (NDU-NLC)<br />

organized a “Computer Science<br />

Summer Camp” between June 25 and<br />

June 2018 ,29, in the NLC Computer<br />

Laboratories.<br />

Nearly 40 students representing 10<br />

schools in North Lebanon participated<br />

in the event.In parallel, two different<br />

workshops were delivered over two<br />

days between 9:00a.m. and 1:30p.m:<br />

• Ali Hammoud delivered a Python<br />

workshop, which focused on creating<br />

artistic painting tools using Python.<br />

Students learned how to simulate<br />

probability and basic life with normal<br />

distribution. Recursion and fractals<br />

were also covered;<br />

• Miriam Badran delivered a workshop<br />

in Unity game programming. Students<br />

created several computer games<br />

starting with the design process.<br />

They learned how to create a user<br />

interface and wrote C# scripts.<br />

They utilized game objects and their<br />

components, and 3D models to create<br />

their designs.<br />

They also witnessed how Mathematics<br />

and Physics could be used to simulate<br />

real world laws.<br />

At the end of the event, participants’<br />

parents joined in the celebratory
