‘Kudāssu 87 nāmāhaṁ tad-āyat<strong>an</strong>aṁ upasampajja viharissāmi<br />
‘When will I dwell having attained that sphere<br />
yad-Ariyā etarahi āyat<strong>an</strong>aṁ upasampajja vihar<strong>an</strong>tī?’ ti<br />
that the Noble Ones now dwell in having attained that sphere?’<br />
Iti <strong>an</strong>uttaresu vimokkhesu pihaṁ upaṭṭhāpayato uppajjati<br />
Thus a longing to give attend<strong>an</strong>ce towards that unsurpassed freedom arises<br />
pihāpaccayā 88 dom<strong>an</strong>assaṁ.<br />
<strong>an</strong>d with longing as condition sorrow (arises).<br />
Paṭighaṁ tena pajahati, na tattha paṭighānusayo <strong>an</strong>useti.<br />
On that basis repulsion is ab<strong>an</strong>doned, <strong>an</strong>d herein there is no more underlying tendency<br />
to repulsion.<br />
Idhāvuso Visākha, bhikkhu sukhassa ca pahānā, dukkhassa ca pahānā,<br />
Here, friend Visākha, a monastic, having given up pleasure, given up pain, 89<br />
pubbe va som<strong>an</strong>assadom<strong>an</strong>assānaṁ atthaṅgamā, 90<br />
<strong>an</strong>d with the previous disappearence of mental well-being <strong>an</strong>d sorrow,<br />
adukkham-asukhaṁ upekkhāsatipārisuddhiṁ, 91<br />
without pain, without pleasure, <strong>an</strong>d with complete purity of mindfulness owing to<br />
equ<strong>an</strong>imity,<br />
catutthaṁ jhānaṁ upasampajja viharati.<br />
dwells having attained the fourth absorption.<br />
Avijjaṁ tena pajahati, na tattha avijjānusayo <strong>an</strong>usetī.” ti<br />
On that basis ignor<strong>an</strong>ce is ab<strong>an</strong>doned, <strong>an</strong>d herein there is no more underlying tendency<br />
to ignor<strong>an</strong>ce.”<br />
