32 GRØN GAS
New test centre for
green gases
Denmark should be a green technology
laboratory that is independent
of fossil fuels. This is a vision and
target formulated by the Danish
Energy Agency and the Danish
Government. DGC welcomes this
statement, and we are looking forward
to driving the development
and research in this direction with
our new test centre.
”At the test centre, we can contribute
to developments with our
unique, specialist studies and
analyses of green gases,” explains
the head of the new test centre,
Leo van Gruijthuijsen. ”Consequently,
we have major potential
as a unifying knowledge centre for
green gases in Denmark where we
can help drive developments and
make a difference by getting more
green gas into the natural gas
network.”
The test centre receives support
from the Danish gas companies and
the Danish Energy Agency under
the Green Labs DK programme.
At the time of writing, the first
equipment is on the way to the
centre, which will begin its work in
the spring 2012. The centre offers
analysis and testing of biogas,
gasification gas and hydrogen,
inspection and validation of
measuring equipment, support for
research and development projects
and consultancy on green gases in
the gas network.
! Did you know?
DGC is also responsible for collecting
and maintaining environment
and energy data for Danish
gas companies. An updated online
version of the publication called
’Energi- og Miljødata’ (Energy and
Environment Data) will soon be
available on the internet.
! Biogas has large potential
Biogas production in Denmark is
currently just over 4 PJ per annum,
but the Danish Energy Agency
has calculated the potential to be
approximately 40 PJ. By way of
comparison, total Danish energy
consumption is approximately 800
PJ, and natural gas consumption is
approximately 150 PJ per annum.
Biogas and gasification gas (read
more on page 30) jointly have the
potential to replace 50 per cent
of current Danish natural gas
consumption.
Nyt test-
center for
!
Stort potentiale i biogas
laboratoriechef, DGC
