ISC kan fejre 45 års virke den 1. august 2012.
Y
Ingeniører A/S.
Bl.a. indenfor
bygget i Norden siden Øresundsbroen, nemlig Sundsvall Broen - en 1,4 km lang bro over Sundsvall fjorden i Nordsverige.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
Preface
On August 1st 2012 ISC Consulting engineers can celebrate 45 years of activities.
5
MORe YeARS have passed by since ISC´s 40 year anniversary was marked with the book “Long span and many goals”. One
remarkable event associated with this was the adventure ball held at Kronborg Castle at elsinore.
Once again it has been 5 stimulating years with many landmarks and exiting assignments for ISC Consulting engineers A/S. Our
position within the oil and gas field has been recognized as well as in the field of renewable energy with a number of substations
for offshore windmill parks. Also within the infrastructural field a long leap has been taken on several characteristic bridges – both
carried out and in progress.
Many of the activities will of course be described in this booklet, but some of them deserve to be highlighted here. In the oil and
gas field we should highlight the Halfdan Field in the Danish Sector of the North Sea. Both the initiatives on CO2 injection in the
oilfields and the fact that ISC now carries out assignments for a long line of clients in both the Danish and Norwegian part of the
North Sea as well in as in other parts of the world.
ISC has succeeded in winning two essential competitions on movable bridges – namely the Teglvaerks Bridge in Copenhagen, a
whole new way of designing a bascule bridge, and the Odins Bridge in Odense – an approximately 900 m long bridge stretch –
comprising a swing bridge across the Odense Canal – which until now is the longest swing bridge in europe. Furthermore ISC has
in co-operation with contractors e. Pihl & Son A/S won the competition of one of the largest bridges built in Scandinavia since the
Oresund Bridge – a 1.4 km long bridge crossing the Sundsvall Fjord in Northern Sweden.
In the field of renewable energy the Horns Rev substation and hotel platform was built and put into service – probably the largest
substation yet carried out by ISC. Several substations in the British Sector have also been designed, namely Walney 1 and Walney
2 situated at 35 m water depth.
During the last 5 years several other assignments have of course also been carried out – both in Denmark as well as in other countries
around the world. Some of them will be presented to you in this booklet which has been prepared in order to mark 45 years
of ISC´s activities. The examples have been chosen among all the interesting assignments carried out in the past 5 years – solved
by the skilled and devoted people that make ISC.
New assignments are on their way both in Denmark and abroad. Apart from the energy sector the coming years will offer challenges
within the infrastructural sector with the extension and renovation of both railways and roads. The Femern Fixed Link will
most likely include some landside assignments and ISC is eager to be a part of these. This also applies for the new Metro City Ring
in Copenhagen.
The many assignments carried out by ISC have a high technical standard which also demands an ongoing update of the computer
programs which are needed in order to carry out the tasks. It can be static calculations or lifetime estimates of complex structures.
The information technology has come to stay and has now become essential in order to solve many of the exiting, complex
and challenging assignments. For this adjustment and education are needed.
ISC is now represented in all parts of Denmark. With the opening of a new branch in Kolding in 2008 and the extension with a
satellite branch from Viborg to Aalborg in 2009 we can provide our clients with the best of service and can solve the task both
locally in Denmark and of course also internationally. With our advanced communication equipment we can compose the design
groups for the given assignment with a selection of the most skilled and competent employees from any of our branches and
make optimal use of our good resources.
We will take advantage of this opportunity and send all of our clients a big thank you for the confidence shown by assigning us all
the exiting, challenging and innovative tasks. These are the basis for our ongoing development and our staff´s know-how.
With this booklet we present to you a bouquet of some of our essential work – and a good view of our further conduct towards new
goals in a globalized world.
Indledning ISC
I
SC RåDGIVeNDe INGeNIØReR A/S har siden 40 års jubilæet i 2007
dygtige medarbejdere.
Norge, Sverige, Holland, USA, Rusland, Qatar og Panama.
Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
Kaj Olesens stilige skulptur
I
SC CONSULTING eNGINeeRS A/S has since our 40 year anniversary in
2007 had a positive development with a long line of new activities
and has ridden through the financial crisis as well without losing any
of our highly skilled employees.
The aim has been set on the need from society – not least within the
field of energy and we have adjusted our professional qualifications
to it. This has since New Year 2011 been the basis for the positive
progress we have had and has been one of the reasons for increasing
the number of ISC employees.
Next to our main entrance at our headquarters in Copenhagen we
have placed a beautiful granite sculpture of the earth symbolizing
that the world is our working place. The activities we have had
during years emphasize that we have lived up to our expectations.
ISC has established a name in the field of energy both in the oil &
gas sector, the renewable sector and in the traditional power plant
technology. Many interesting assignments within the energy sector
have been solved throughout the world in places such as Mexico,
england, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Holland, the US, Russia, Qatar
and Panama.
even within our own “territory” we have extended our presence with
new branches in both Kolding and Aalborg during the past 5 years.
We have expanded our esbjerg branch by building a new office
building and for our Viborg branch we have purchased a beautiful
old house ensuring our employees a good working environment.
Our old well known “Monkey tree” could no longer stand the harsh
Danish climate and had to go. This gave us the opportunity to clear
the space in front of our beautiful domicile at Øster Alle with new
plants, more parking space and some wonderful pieces of art.
The Monkey tree gave up – but we have gained some beautiful art to
look at – amongst them two smiling Chinese men – marking China’s
central place in the 21st century – a market for future focus for our
company. Kaj Olesen´s impressive static figure of sails in stainless
steel placed in front of our office building in Hesseløgade – brightly
shining in the daylight and black as coal in the night – marking that
ISC still is sailing with the wind.
Industrianlæg/
Industrial Plants
kaliber. Nogle har – andre har ikke.
/
Industrial plants come in many different disguises and have a central place in
a sustainable culture. Usually the industrial plants are not visible to all; they
are often hidden in remote places and that for many reasons. Often they
demand an immense piece of space due to the size of the plant and they can
be environmental hazardous and smelly and noisy as well. Architectonically
some can be a disaster and some can be quite agreeable and interesting to
look at.
10
N
ofte i to klasser, nemlig de pænt arkitektonisk
i flere store industrianlæg. Blandt andet i opførelse
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
Anderledes
/
When big industrial plants
are placed in the landscape or
around harbours and their
actual functions are left into
the open they can be exiting and
interesting to observe.
S
OMe PLANTS are packaged nicely in architectonically
attractive boxes – as is often the
case with the refined industry such as electronical,
pharmaceutical and toy factories whereas
the heavier productions like steel- and cement
plants, power plants, desulphurization installations
and refineries not always can attain much
architectonic value.
Many of the industrial plants can have a quite
surrealistic appearance – some might be somewhat
fascinating due to the web of chimneys,
silos, process pipe systems in various colours
and shapes. These plants are, however, often
the ones hidden away and conveniently placed
near shipping facilities such as harbours and
railroads. This is thus one of the reasons why
the industrial plants usually are divided into two
categories – the architectonically nicely covered
plants and the plants that openly show us what is
the function.
Within the past 5 years ISC has been involved
in several large industrial facilities such as the
design of cement plants in the Middle east and
Africa, and the design of large ship landing facilities
in Mongstad in Norway and in Hamburg in
Germany. The modernization of refineries for
oil companies in Denmark and lately a big plant
in Brazil producing flexible pipelines are other
examples.
A large conveyor belt that leads its load right out
into the ships docked in the harbour cannot be
hidden but visualizes the function to the spectator.
This is not the case with the plants finely
wrapped in boxes, which is often seen in the
medical industry and power plants.
The production yards for fabrication of the large
offshore structures are not easily hidden either
– they are surely difficult to wrap. Large halls
can be used for the production of the various
parts but when it comes to the assembly of the
big pipes in the jacket and topside structures
and further on to the transportation at sea, they
emerge into the open air – and then the spectator
can detect what is going on.
When big industrial plants are placed in the landscape
or around harbours and their actual functions
are left into the open they can be exiting
and interesting to observe. It is always motivating
when you can get a hunch of what is going on
in there if you are not familiar with the company
allready. The signals to the outside world of the
diversity in the industrial plants are many – depending
on how they present themselves.
Broer/
Bridges
/
Designing bridges has always been a special issue for the engineer. Of
course there can be several reasons for this but mainly because most
bridges are spectacular and usually have many challenging static problems.
It often challenges the engineer to create something unique that can be
fitted into the environment across the waters of the fjords, belts and lakes
or in the mountains across deep ravines and valleys.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future

14
D
i udførelsen. Samtidigt involveres flere discipliner
broer er to nyskabelser.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
ca. 900 m lang brostrækning på omfartsvejen
omkring Odense.
m udkragning. Den spænder mellem to olieplatforme
i Halfdanfeltet.
spænder vidt over vand, bl.a. som partner i
/
Movable bridges often
demands even more
accuracy in the design
and construction process
than stationary bridges.
M
OST BRIDGeS ARe STATIC – they are the ones
not moving. Over the years ISC has designed
many different bridge types – each with
their own special hallmark. One of them was a
240 m highway bridge north of Copenhagen,
where a concrete bridge was replaced in just 41
days by a steel bridge. An amazing accomplishment
by the contractor but enabled due to the
design project carried out by ISC. A somewhat
smaller pedestrian bridge across one of the main
thoroughfares around Copenhagen was replaced
in less than 24 hours.
But the bridges that move demands even more
accuracy in the design and construction process.
And surely it involves more skills – involving both
the mechanical and the electrical engineer besides
the structural engineer, with the know-how
and expertise needed for concept and statical
behavior.
Two outstanding and innovative moving bridges
have been designed during the past couple of
years – each one of them with their own specialty.
The Teglvaerks Bridge in the center of
Copenhagen is outstanding due the fact that
the hydraulic lift cylinders are a part of the load
bearing structure. The other is Odins Bridge at
Odense Canal – a double swing bridge which is a
part of an approximately 900 m bridge line being
a part of the around Odense. The bridge has a
special feature consisting of a quite outstanding
principle of bearings which has never been used
before. The bridge is so far the biggest swing
bridge in Northern europe with a total length of
200 m.
Over the years ISC has designed several large
bridges at sea that are not attached to land. One
of the largest bridges have been built at the Halfdan
field in the North Sea; a 140 m long bridge
with a cantilever of 40 m and spanning 100 m
between two platforms.
ISC has designed bridges spanning widely across
big waters. Among others the Oresund Bridge
between Denmark and Sweden as partner in the
ASO joint venture group. The bridge is the longest
cable stay bridge in the world with a railway
track and the longest railway bridge in europe.
The bridges keep getting longer and longer as
the building materials of today keep gaining
strength and the creativity in the design of load
bearing systems increases. Bridges with spans
of 2000 m have been built and now a bridge
across the Messina Strait with a span of 3000 m
is in progress. For ISC a 1.4 km bridge across the
Sundsvall Fjord in the northern part of Sweden is
next in line, providing all imaginable challenges
in the field of geometry and static’s. It is being
carried out in a joint venture with Pihl & Sons as
lead contractors.
Olie og Gas/
Oil and Gas
modificere DONG energy´s felter i Nordsøen.
/
The great effort ISC has put into the oil and gas sector during the past years
has developed into a very positive course. Many large and evolving assignments
in the Danish North Sea sector have been given to us by Maersk Oil &
Gas as well as assignments in Qatar. Our circle of clients has expanded with
important operators in both the Norwegian and Danish sector of the North
Sea. Noreco has thus provided ISC with various interesting assignments. ISC
has entered a frame agreement with DONG energy A/S in co-operation with
SeMCO Maritime concerning the expansion, maintenance and modifications
of DONG energy´s fields in the North Sea.
A
dok i Hirtshals.
The idea of re-injection of
T
He exPANSION of the Halfdan field in the North
Sea has been one of the bigger assignments during
the past couple of years. The assignment involved
3 platforms with connecting bridges and the design of
one of the largest modules in the Danish North Sea
– a 9,300 ton topside structure.
The platform expansion was made in order to upgrade
the Halfdan B field to manned operation with a control
room and to manage continuity in the flow of oil reserves
with high water content.
Halfdan BD includes a process installation unit for separating
water and oil from the existing Halfdan B wells.
The water is cleaned and treated before being pumped
out into sea. The gas is then compressed and used for
lifting oil in the wells. In connection with the operation
being manned and for safety reasons large fire pumps
have been installed as well as pressure relieve systems
for burning gas in emergency situations such as fire
and gas detection situations.
A special interesting assignment in which ISC is involved
in co-operation with other companies is the SIRI
platform. The load bearing capacity is questionable and
the platform now undergoes thorough investigation
resulting in reinforcement suggestions.
ISC has furthermore designed and performed site inspection
with the first jacket including topside built for
DONG energy A/S – the star platform Nini east.
The idea of re-injection of CO2 from power plants into
the oilfields is developing. In order to store the CO2 and
at the same time exploiting it, the CO2 is re-injected
into the oil fields to provoke larger cracks in the
limestone thus increasing the production of oil. In cooperation
with Mærsk Oil & Gas ISC has been working
on the design of a full scale test installation. ISC is also
involved in a similar project in Mongstad in Norway, a
process plant for re-injection of CO2 in the Norwegian
oil fields.
Apart from working at the permanent installation and
new oilrig installations, ISC has had quite a few assignments
on the oilrigs that actually drill down to the oil
reserves. ISC has been involved in many moderations
of already existing drilling rigs for Maersk Drilling adjusting
them to Norwegian standards so they can be
operated in the Norwegian part of the North Sea. ISC
has designed and supervised new Texas Deck installations
and new lifeboat installations with employees
stationed both at the shipyards in Holland and at docks
in Hirtshals.
It is always important for our ISC employees to get a
chance to be involved in the field on these kinds of
jobs. Here they have a unique chance to accumulate
some hands-on practical experience which can be an
advantage in the design process of the complex assignments
we design at the home office.
Marine Anlæg/
Marine Installations
/
As the word implies marine installations are the structures placed in and in
the border areas of the sea – at the coastline - and in the water. In the last
couple of years - apart from the oil and gas platforms – another big industry
is evolving fast - explicitly the large offshore wind mill farms with their wind
turbines, substations and foundations. These marine installations, which are
often placed far out in the open sea, are very special as they have to be able
to withstand heavy wind and wave loads as well as heavy currents and in
some areas even ice. Most of these marine installations you are not able to
see because they are mostly placed far from shore and in areas where ship
traffic does not pass by closely.
N
Rev 2 platformen.
Men før vindmølleparkerne gjorde deres indtog
& Gas afsnittet andetsteds i hæftet.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
Her kan nævnes rampeanlæggene i Gedser,
sættes i gang. I den tyske sektion af Kriegers Flak
har ISC allerede været aktiv for en tysk vindmølleejer
med projektering af offshore fundamentet
for en transformerplatform til vindmølleparken
Baltic 1.
Et af de største marine
anlæg, der er placeret
ude i vandet i Danmark,
er Horns Rev.
/
One of the largest
marine installations is
the Horns Reef.
T
HeRe ARe, however, some exceptions as a
few of the installations ISC has designed
are actually placed so that they are visible from
shore. One is the Lillgrund Wind Farm with the
spectacular substation clad in glass, placed in
the southern part of Oresund almost next to the
Oresund Bridge wherefrom you can see it clearly.
The Nysted Wind Farm can be observed from
shore as well.
One of the largest marine installations is the
Horns Reef B substation in the Horns Reef 2
Wind Farm with the adjoined hotel platform for
the personnel working at the substation. Both
installations were designed by ISC.
Apart from the exceptional loads these installations
are exposed to they also need to have an
anti-corrosive treatment according to the most
effective technique, in order for them to withstand
rust occurrence that is almost inevitable in
the marine habitat.
However, before the off-shore wind farms made
their entry, the Danish Sector of the North Sea
and of course the seas all over the world accommodated
the enormous installations designed for
the extraction of oil and gas reserves - but that is
another story which is described in another section.
Marine installations are also defined as the installations
we see in the border areas such as
quays, docks, harbourbus stops and bridges in
harbours. ISC has been active in these areas
too, during the past 5 years, among others with
the design of quay installations in Greenland.
Furthermore mooring facilities in Odense Canal
in connection with the building of the new swing
bridge Odin’s Bridge – until now the largest swing
bridge in europe – are designed by ISC.
Many of our ferry harbours have large ramp installations
for rail, vehicle and trailer traffic. ISC
has been involved in most of the Danish ferry
harbour ramps and even in Sweden and Turkey.
At Krieger’s Flak in the Baltic Sea where the water
depths are 40-45 m, one of europe´s largest
wind farms is planned to be located. ISC has for
this project developed special deep sea foundations
for wind turbines based on many years of
experience working with concrete structures.
The Krieger’s Flak Wind Farm is still in the planning
phase but it will comprise many very interesting
structures once the project is launched.
In he German sector of Krieger’s Flak ISC has
already been active for a German wind farm
stakeholder with the design of foundation for the
substation at the Wind Farm Baltic 1.
udsættes for i offshore miljøet.
i havbunden.
projekteret, vejer
typisk mellem 1000 ton
og 2000 ton.
/
The substations designed
by ISC typically
weigh between 1000
and 2000 ton.
F
OR ISC THe DeSIGN of the Nysted Substation
was the start of a long line of jobs, making
ISC one of the strongest players in the field of the
design of jackets, foundations and topsides for
wind park substations. A number of substations
have been designed for clients in the countries
around the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the Irish
Sea, Oeresund, the Atlantic Ocean and in the
China Sea.
The function of a substation in an off-shore wind
farm is to receive power from a group of wind
turbines via cables and then transforming the the
high voltage power before it is lead ashore via a
larger or several larger subsea cables. In this way
the installations are optimized and the energy
loss is minimized. The substations designed by
ISC typically weigh between 1000 and 2000 ton
depending on the capacity. The substation structure
is usually composed by a 3-4 deck structure,
which contains various rooms for all the needed
functions of the substation, such as electrical
supervision panel, ventilation, staffrooms and
sleeping quarters and of course much space is
allocated for the transformers. Some substations
are just raw structures others are clad in glass
or stainless steel panel structures, either for
protection of the staff working on the substation
or just to give the substation an attractive look.
This often applies for the substations situated
close to shore.
For ISC the future in the field of renewable energy
holds a positive perspective. The experience
and the development of specialized tools
for the design of the special structures needed
in order to withstand the rough climate at sea –
with heavy wind and powerful wave exposure,
provides ISC with the know-how which enables
us to give a unique consultance and service to
our national and international clients, comprising
complete design of both the substations as
well as the foundations for the wind turbines,
spanning from the first concept phase, the main
project, tender, fabrication, the sea transportation
to the offshore installation and to the final
commissioning.
Furthermore ISC has developed a special tool
for the installation of the offshore wind turbine
monopile foundations. The tool is obviously
called a pile gripper and it is a device which can
hold and support monopiles up to 8 meters in diameter
while they are being driven into the seabed.
This large piece of equipment often weighs
more than 200 ton and has shown its value by
assisting at the driving of a large quantity of
monopile foundations for the wind turbine farms
all over europe.
Lufthavne/
Airports
An airport is a complex spider’s web of transportation where passengers,
luggage, cargo and catering service meet the aircraft and crew, and where
skilled mechanics have taken care of the maintenance, and determined
flight controllers assure that the numerous aircrafts can move safely on
ground as well as in the air.
E
stort antal opgaver i Københavns Lufthavn. Lufthavnen
filosofier omkring forretningskonceptet i lufthavnen.
in, security kontrol, odd-size bagage, forretningsområder,
restauranter og naturligvis også selve terminalbygningens
konstruktioner og installationer og
hele vejen ud i flere fingre.
I forbindelse hermed
er der også projekteret installationer og indretning
omkring satellitternes taxfree områder rundt omkring
i lufthavnen.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
engageret i flere væsentlige ombygninger i selve terminalbygningen,
række meget interessante opgaver er blevet løst i løbet
af de seneste 5 år. Her iblandt ventilationsanlæg
engagement i Københavns Lufthavn.
ISC has been assigned tasks
more or less within
everything the passenger
meets on his way through
the airport – from the
metro to the aircraft.
T
He AIRPORT IS ALWAYS in a developing phase not
least due to the increasing number of passengers
and various philosophies of the retail store concept in
the airport. It is within this sphere ISC has retrieved a
large number of assignments at Copenhagen Airport.
ISC has been assigned tasks more or less within
everything the passenger meets on his way through
the airport – from the car park and metro to the aircraft.
From the check-in counter, the security check,
odd size luggage handling, the tax-free stores, restaurants
and of course also the terminal building itself –
structural design and mechanical installations – and all
the way out to the concourses ISC has set a mark.
Within the past 5 years ISC has performed a total
rebuilding of the tax-free area which is connected
directly to the new CSC building (Centralized Security
Check) – also an ISC design - containing the security
check. In connection with the rebuilding the mechanical
installations was redesigned and the interior was
updated around the concourses´ tax-free areas in the
rest of the airport.
The special handling of the odd size luggage has been
rationalized and ISC has been in charge of a major
addition for improved handling of this type of luggage
making it much easier for the passengers and not
least for the staff.
Furthermore ISC has been strongly involved in the
rebuilding of Concourse C in order for the handling
of the Non Schengen passengers. Another new addition
to the con is already on the drawing board, where
ISC once more is involved as consultants in a design/
construct overall deliverance with Norisol as main
contractor. The Novia Lounge has also undertaken a
total makeover designed by ISC. Next in line lies an
upgrading of the old SAS Cargo building, now owned
by Copenhagen Airport, which is being divided into
an airside and a landside section in connection with
rental areas.
At Billund airport, where ISC in the 90´s designed the
complete terminal building, we are now involved in
several alterations and modernization involving the
tax-free area, the transit area and the concourses.
At the US Air Force Base in Thule, Greenland, ISC has
during several periods of time been granted an exclusive
design contract. A long line of various interesting
assignments have been solved during the last 5 years,
such as ventilation systems for the big radar installation,
energy optimization of the entire airport, electrical
installations, coastal fortification of landfill areas
as well as other specialized tasks.
ISC wishes to maintain the vision of intensifying the
know-how and expertise of airport installations for future
assignments at other airports and also continues
the profound commitment at Copenhagen Airport. ISC
has entered framework agreements within all technical
disciplines. ISC is ready for take-off anytime with
whatever assignment presented.
Kraftværker/
Power Plants
Traditionelle
/
In a modern society the stability of the power supply around the clock is
essential and the demand for more energy is increasing every day. The
traditional power plants will for many years ahead still be prerequisite in
order to maintain a stable power supply in most countries. All types of fuel
used for power and heat production produces CO2 - but there is, however, a
difference between the various fuel types and of how much the atmosphere
is burdened. The CO2 from bio-fuels are for instance recycled in the biosphere
and does not affect the atmosphere in the end. One of futures great
challenges is thus to convert our power production in order for the net content
of CO2 in atmosphere does not increase.
I
Man
MW.
ISC has for DONG Energy
been involved in
largest Danish Power
the Skaerbaek Power
Plant to bio-fuel.
I
SC HAS BeeN in the frontline as regards the changes already
made and the changes planned for in the future both in Denmark
and abroad.
ISC has for DONG energy been involved in converting two of the
largest Danish Power Plants, the Avedøre Power Plant and the
Skaerbaek Power Plant to bio-fuel.
A considerable part of this conversion is the handling, transportation
and storage as well as the processing of the bio-fuels. ISC
has in this matter, contributed with the design of the quays, the
mechanical installations for the unloading facilities, the transportation
systems from the quays to the storerooms as well as the
buildings and structures for silos and mills.
For utilization of the surplus heat to district heating a tunnel has
been drilled from the Amager Power Plant under Copenhagen
harbour to Osterbro, Copenhagen. For Copenhagen energy the
design of the steel structures for conveying pipes in the shafts and
tunnel, has been carried out by ISC. The tunnel is used for conveying
electrical cables and other pipes as well.
For the DONG owned company Inbicon, ISC has designed part
of a bio-ethanol demo-installation in Kalundborg, Denmark. The
installation has been designed to produce 5.4 million liters bioethanol,
13,000 ton lignin bio-pills and 11,000 ton molasses,
based on 30,000 ton straw as the raw material. The bio-pills are
used for fuel and the molasses are used for feed and several
other purposes – thus nothing is wasted as all the bio-mass elements
can be used.
ISC has furthermore designed processing engine equipment for
several bio-fueled power plants around the world, where the main
part of the fuel used is plant oil.
It is, however, not likely that we in the near future will be able to
secure a stable energy production based alone on bio-fuel or other
renewable energy sources. Wind-turbines and other renewable
sources of energy solely produce power when it suits the powers
of our nature. We have unfortunately not yet discovered an effective
technique for storing electricity – it has to be consumed
instantly. We therefore still need the traditional power plants in
order to maintain a constant power production.
We will need to discover a way to reduce the amount of CO2
derived into the atmosphere from the fossil fuel powered plants.
In Mongstad, Norway, ISC has been involved in a study for a
Carbon Capture installation where the CO2 from the Mongstad
Power Plant via exhaust gas channels is compressed and led into
the wells in the oilfields in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
Apart from being an effective technique for storing the CO2, the
method also contributes to the process of extracting the oil from
the wells and thus an increase in the production.
By now most Danish coal fuelled power plants have had desulfurization
installations installed. ISC has designed several of these
installations and has recently designed yet one for the Asnaes
Power Plant block 2, a 125 MW plant. The desulfurization installation
is designed so it can be converted to Block 4 which has a
capacity of 250 MW.
Jernbane og Metro/
Railroads and Metro
/
The building of railroads in Denmark really took a leap forward in the beginning
of the 20th century and soon most of the country was well covered with
rails, and plans for several new stretches were on the drawing board. Since
then many of the old railroad stretches have been closed down both the
public as well as the privately owned, and the extent of railroads in Denmark
have since been pretty much stagnant.
N
Ye STRæKNINGeR er dog siden hen kommet
til i forbindelse med de store infrastruturprojekter,
Storebæltsforbindelsen, Øresundsforbindelsen
og ikke mindst letbaner så som Metroen
i København.
to broer for BaneDanmark, en stibro (Stenhøj)
over banen lidt uden for Fredericia og en stibro
(Handsted Kirkesti) over banen i Handsted lidt
nord for Horsens.
For Banedanmark har ISC på Kong Frederik
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
underjordiske teknikrum, regnvandsbassiner
og pumpestationer. Med dette i
rygsækken forventer ISC fremadrettet at følge
ISC is fully equipped to
take part of the future
assignments concerning
the up-date of the
Danish rail network.
N
eW STReTCHeS have since been added in connection
with big infrastructural projects such as the
Great Belt bridge, the Oresunds Bridge and last but
not least a Metro line in Copenhagen.
The old and very well exploited railroads have, however,
in the past years been in great need of extensive
renovation as well as modernization. This goes for
the rail systems, the signal systems and the structural
parts.
ISC is with the knowhow achieved during the involvement
in the third phase of the Copenhagen Metro
Line – with all the many different facets such as structures
and thoroughly designed passenger facilities
- fully equipped to take part of the future assignments
concerning the up-date of the Danish rail network.
ISC has thus been involved in the replacement of two
pedestrian bridges for BaneDanmark. One across
the rail just outside Fredericia and the other bridge
across the rail in Hansted just a little north of Horsens.
For BaneDanmark ISC has also been involved in the
replacement of bearings on the King Frederik the Ix´s
bascule bridge rail parts and on the two road parts as
well, that after many years of wear and tear showed
evident signs of insufficient sealing. A validation of
the design of a new crossing for pedestrians and
vehicles at the railroad at easter Doense has been
carried out as well.
BaneDanmark is now planning a new double rail
line between Copenhagen and Ringsted via Koge.
The KOR project is part of this facility. The distance
between Copenhagen and Ringsted via Roskilde is
presently a bottle neck as there is no possible way to
make more trains pass this strech in order to meet today’s
transportation demands. ISC is involved in this
with project management, construction management
and supervision of the establishment of the civil
structures.
ISC was prequalified as member of a joint venture
group for the fourth phase of the Copenhagen metro
and tendered for the consultancy tasks. ISC has
formed an international consortium with some of the
most prestigious consultancy companies in the world
within the railroad planning and building and expect
prospectively to be a part of the establishment of the
new Copenhagen City Metro.
With experience gained during the work on the east
Amager Metro which comprised a 4.1 km double
tracks railway with over-ground stations, transmissions
over and under, railway cut and cover tunnel
and embankments, sub terrain technical rooms, rainwater
basins and pump installations. With this gained
expertise, ISC will continue to follow the track.
Husbyggeri/
House Building
/
The term house building covers quite a large variation of buildings and the
use of them, spanning from what is traditionally considered when talking of
house building – residential building of one or more floors - to a number of
more or less specialized types of buildings namely schools, nursing homes,
office buildings, canteens, exhibition buildings, churches, congregation
houses, kindergartens and colleges.
I
SC HAR NeTOP, i denne sidste 5 års periode,
skoler i både København, Glostrup, Lyngby-Taarbæk
mv.
af Odins Bro over Odense Kanal giver spændende
dele i lufthavnen.
ISC has achieved considerable
success in entering turn-key
tender competitions for
I
SC HAS FOR the past 5 years, more or less, been
through the whole spectrum regarding house
building assignments. A large center for dementia
in Liselund at Viborg has just been terminated and
the new TV2 headquarters at Teglholmen in Copenhagen
has been completed as well. This project also
involved a rather complex sub terrain car park in
connection to the total remake of an already existing
building.
More sub terrain car parks have followed successfully
with among others the Nimbus Park where the
main principles from the TV2 car park were used.
energy awareness is a big issue and in this context
ISC has performed a long line of energy consultancy
assignments. In Copenhagen, Glostrup and
Lyngby-Taarbaek, schools have been renovated as
well. The Kalundborg branch has built schools in
Western Zealand among others the Marbaek School
in Skibby and the Science Centre at Kalundborg
Gymnasium has been entirely updated. The Kolding
branch has been very active in the field as well and
has renovated and energy optimized several schools
in eastern Jutland.
The house building field also comprises special constructions
such as churches. ISC has performed the
rebuilding of Haslev Church and the Danish church
of the Latter Days Saints. Also secured institutions
for young criminals such as the elmehus institution
in Nykoebing Zealand, and the supply yard for the
municipality of Kalundborg has been renovated with
new staff facilities, offices etc.
The harbour administration in Odense is having a
new administration building in connection with the
erection of the Odins Bridge across the canal – with
special features linked to the design of the bridge
offering the engineers many interesting challenges.
An interesting building that lies close to our heart
is of course our own new office house in esbjerg.
The new building finally closes the gap in the block
Kirkegade, Jyllandsgade and Borgergade. The
building comprises a total of 2000 m 2 and is built
as an extension to our old office building in Borgergade
and has provided our staff with new and upto
date facilities.
The completion of the CSC building (Centralized Security
Check) in Copenhagen Airport also has taken
place during this period. The structure has brought
on a lot of challenges to both consultants and contractors
as such a construction surely affects all the
essential fragments in an institution like an airport.
ISC has achieved considerable success in entering
turn-key tender competitions for institutional buildings
and has won several of these during the past
5 years all over Denmark. ISC aims on attaining the
untraditional assignments – we like the challenges in
performing something not seen before.
E
N BYGHeRReRåDGIVeR skal være en uvurderlig
støtte for bygherren.
for udførelse i totalentreprise, hovedentreprise
eller som fagentreprise. På grundlag af entreprenørens
tilbud bistår bygherrerådgiveren med
udarbejdelse af kontrakter med den eller de
entreprenører, hvis tilbud måtte blive accepteret.
Bygherrerådgiveren støtter i hele byggefasen
bygherren omkring de kontraktlige forhold samt
foranlediger kontrol af entreprenørens arbejder
og byggesagens økonomi.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
samlede projekt bliver afleveret i overensstemmelse
med de forventninger, bygherren har til
byggeriet.
betalt for.
Bygherrerådgivning har det
overordnede mål, at sikre
bygherren et byggeri der:
• Opfylder den ønskede
funktion og kvalitet
• Overholder det fastlagte
budget
• Færdiggøres i henhold
til den fastlagte tidsplan.
Bygherrerådgiveren støtter
i hele byggefasen bygherren
omkring de kontraktlige forhold
samt foranlediger kontrol af
entreprenørens arbejder og
The consultant assists the
client throughout the full
construction process with
the contractual matters and
controls the contractors´
work and that the costs are
kept within the budget.
A
The overall goal for
consultancy is to ensure
that the client gets a
building that:
• Fulfills the wished
function and quality
• Keeps the budget
• Is finished within the
time schedule.
CLIeNT CONSULTANT should act as an impartial
support for the client. The main mission
is to ensure that all phases are running as
smoothly as possible and to entail all of the
client’s interests throughout the entire process
and make sure that the expectations of the
client are fulfilled concerning quality, economics,
functionality, aesthetics, maintenance and operation
of the construction.
The whole process begins with drawing up a
concept for the process based on the client’s
initial requirements. The concept is conducted
with the preparation of a requirement analysis,
demands to functionality, placement, cost, tender
and other factors that might be essential for this
specific job.
Based on this the consultant draws up the overall
contract basis including the tender documents
for the total job including the specification of the
technical and legal issues. This contract forms
the basis for the tenders from the contractors
depending on whether it is a turn-key contract, a
main contract or a reimbursable contract. Based
on the contractors’ proposal the consultant conducts
the draw-up of the agreements with the
contractors who´s proposal have been accepted.
The consultant assists the client throughout the
full construction process with the contractual
matters and controls the contractors’ work and
that the costs are kept within the budget.
Another responsibility of the consultant is to
verify that the considerations of the environment
are fulfilled and the needed authorizations are
achieved from the authorities. Last but not least
it is the consultant’s responsibility that the result
meets the client’s expectations.
The consultant’s job is not finished until the
project is handed over and taken into use in
co-operation with the contractors. It is possible
for the consultant to assist with the interior,
special mechanical installations and of course
the planning of the moving in. The consultant´s
job is also to assure that the time schedule is
kept, the budget is held, that all the manuals for
maintenance and operation, service agreements
and all the so called facility management are
present.
The assignment is finally at its end
when the consultant has ensured
that the job has been fulfilled as
efficiently as possible, that all environmental
regulations have been
respected, all the needed documents
have been filled out and the client
has got what he paid for. When all
this have been taken care of, the
consultant can call it a day.
Specielle
konstruktioner/
Special Structures
svingningsproblemer.
/
The development of advanced structures is usually related
to structures where special load conditions apply and where
complications related to life time expectancy will need documentation.
It can also apply to structures that require special
motion facilities or structures exposed to exceptional loads
and related oscillation problems.
K
ONSTRUKTIONeR, der har sådanne særlige
kendetegn, vil vi normalt betegne som
specielle konstruktioner.
(FeM). Dette gælder både indenfor brobygning,
maskiner, offshore konstruktioner mv.
materialer. Forudsætningen for at kunne løse opgaverne
Man
Broen over Sundsvall fjorden i
IT programmer.
Spændvidden i opgaverne
er stor – både målt i størrelse,
i teknisk variation og
anvendelse af materialer.
/
The contents of the tasks
span widely, both when it is a
matter of the structures sizes,
the mechanical variations
and in the choice of materials.
S
TRUCTUReS COMPRISING these features are
normally categorized as special structures.
The design of special structures accompanies the
advanced IT technology which has been developed
during the past 20 years and the very innovative
programs available for performing Finite
element Analyses (FeM). This is indispensable
when designing bridges and engines as well as in
the design of offshore structures, wind farms etc.
Many of the tasks performed by ISC lie specifically
within the field categorized as special structures
i.e. bridge building, construction, the power
sector, the off-shore sector and the wind farm
sector.
The contents of the tasks span widely, both when
it is a matter of the structures’ sizes, the mechanical
variations and in the choice of materials.
The main qualifications needed in order to carry
out the special structure designs are primarily
that the expertise and know-how is present but
obviously also that the tools which in a manageable
way can handle the documentation of the
structures according to the current available
standards are available.
The creativity of the architects’ minds often results
in special structures and it is the elements
in the structures that provide interesting challenges
to the engineer while handling the assignment.
The processing of many of these spatial structures
of various kinds we see nowadays would
not be possible without help from the available
modern IT technology. One might find that exactly
this has been essential for the design of many
of the extremely creative structures we have
seen erected during the recent years.
ISC has been fortunate to be a player in this field
and has several special structures and solutions
for these lined up on the drawing board. This applies
for the off-shore jacket structures, extreme
piping structures, various engine foundations,
mounting tools for suspension bridges, special
bearings for swing bridges, mounting equipment
for wind farm parks, foundations for extreme
deep waters, the design of one of the largest
bridges in Sweden, the Sundsvall Bridge among
others.
The design of the largest european swing bridge
namely the Odin’s Bridge requires a special new
bearing system which is able to handle the demands
of the opening frequency and static loads.
The Sundsvall Bridge also provides extraordinary
geometrical and static challenges which are only
solvable with the help of the modern IT software
due to the increasing complex demands of lifetime
estimates, oscillation calculations etc.
H
opgave er her at kontrollere midlertidige stilladsers
bæreevne og stabilitet som defineret i ”Tilsynshåndbog
for broentrepriser”.
ISC Innovative Engineering - join us and be a part of our future
ske dokumentation.
Denne supplerende kontrol er kommet for at
blive.
/
One of the main principles
in the independent control is
that the design is looked upon
with new eyes.
A
S exAMPLeS the breakdown of the Ballerup Bicycle
Arena and the Valby Arena can be mentioned as
well as several farm buildings that could not withstand
snow loads that did not exceed the load specifications in
the standards.
We have also during the past years seen several breakdowns
in scaffoldings for concrete bridges, unfortunately
resulting in the loss of life. It is therefore essential
that the building regulation together with the eurocodes
0, require independent control of structures in the high
consequence class and that third part control is carried
out at the extreme high consequence class. This control
is to be carried out by an independent company not
involved in the design.
equivalent, independent control of the contractors’ scaffolding
structures is required by BaneDanmark as well
as by the Danish Road Authorities – The Vejdirektoratet.
The main task is here to check load capacity and stability
of temporary scaffoldings as it is defined in “The
Handbook for inspection of bridge contracts”.
The certified statical controllers at ISC have for such
cases been assigned the task of monitoring that the
statical documentations is sufficient, adequate and correct.
One of the main principles in the independent control
is that the design is looked upon with new eyes and
everything vital for the functionality and use of the load
bearing structures is thoroughly reviewed. The purpose
of the control is to verify that the chosen solutions are
relevant for the functionality, secure and fulfills the
requirements for stability and without any flaws or lacks
in the statical documentation can be found. The documentation
is terminated with an approval report as well
as a memorandum as appendix to the overall statical
documentation for the particular assignment.
Having a large number of highly skilled and experienced
design engineers and statics employed it has been
obvious for ISC to take an active part in this particular
area. During the past years ISC has carried out static
control of large concrete buildings, bridges and scaffoldings.
The new university hospital at Aarhus, the
Teglvaerks Bridge, antenna masts, high storage buildings
and stadiums can be mentioned as examples.
This extra control has come to stay. The strong need
is further emphasized by the fact that the education
at the technical universities in elementary statical and
physical understanding of structures and their function
has gradually been degraded in line with the increasing
implementation of readymade statical design programs.
Tests recently given to young engineers in this topic at
DTU and in the larger Danish engineering companies
have shown alarmingly bad results. We recommend that
the educational institutions upgrade this area instantly.
At ISC we ensure that our engineers when employed
are given a general brush up on the topic so that all
our structural engineers have a general understanding
of statics and are able to solve any task in an accurate
manner.
rådgivning i Danmark.
spidskompetencer. Vi planlægger at vokse organisk,
forankret i vore medarbejdere.
i verden i Nysted ud for Lollands kyst.
store bro over Sundsvallsfjorden i Sverige.
udfordrende arbejdsplads.
Vi skal sikre, også fremover,
at ISC bliver den foretrukne
arbejdsplads for unge
ingeniører der vil arbejde med
avancerede og
spændende opgaver.
It is a primary goal that
ISC also in the future
continues to be the preferred
working place for the young
engineers who wish to
deal with advanced, inspiring
and innovative assignments.
I
SC HAS GAINeD a central position in three main areas. One is the civil
works sector with special emphasis on the industrial and bridge building
field. Secondly we have the energy sector with both power plants
based on fossil energy such as coal, oil, gas and the renewables based
on wind. Finally, we have a special place within the oil and gas sector
where we have been active throughout the world in the last 35 years.
We have here achieved to be rated the best offshore consultants in Denmark.
It is within these sectors we have our key abilities. Our plan is to keep
on growing organically in order to maintain the professional know-how
embedded in our personnel. It is the wide ranged knowledge together
with the unique skills we possess within the special niches where we are
superior that generates the basis for our future development.
We hold a central position in the oil and gas sector where we have designed
offshore installations for our clients for more than 35 years. Our
clients comprise all oil and gas producers in the North Sea in Denmark
and in Norway and several producers around the world as well. We have
in this sector a well-established position and a good reputation and we
have our quality assurance system to secure that this position is held
also in the future.
Since 2003 we have acquired a main position in the renewable energy
sector. We can most likely boast off being the company that has put
most substations on the map since we established the first in the world
in Nysted just off the southern Danish coast.
Of course we also here have to keep focus on the excellent relationship
we have established within the public sector, constructing interesting
and challenging buildings. We have achieved a SKI agreement applicable
for contracts with all municipalities in Denmark.
We have an excellent relationship with a long list of contractors where
we in joint ventures take part as consultants. These collaborations have
resulted in several interesting assignments – lately the large bridge
across the Sundsvall Fjord in Sweden.
Airport design has always been one of our main operating fields. We
have since 1967 held a central position here not least in Copenhagen
Airport – but in Billund and Roenne airports as well. We are still there
and will continue to participate with our attained know-how both nationally
and internationally.
We will keep on educating our personnel, so they are prepared for the
requirements demanded in the future for sustainable constructions
meeting the standards and demands - and the demands that might
come.
It is a primary goal that ISC also in the future continues to be the preferred
working place for the young engineers who wish to deal with
advanced, inspiring and innovative assignments – young engineers
that wish to pick up the challenge and at an early stage in their career
achieve a large amount of responsibility. We aim – also in the future – to
continue our organic growth, as it has proven to be the right track for
ISC in order to assure a well consolidated business and a safe comprehensive
training of our new employees in a technical environment. It has
never been a primary goal for ISC to be the biggest - we do not make
headcounts – we merely aim to be the best within the activity areas we
have chosen as our main track. This is the guarantee we give our engineers
and designers – a secure and challenging working place.
