Title: “A survey of the psychical working environment in Eden Alternative care homes – Is it
better compared to care homes without the concept?”
Abstract:
This bachelor project treats a survey of a better psychical working environment in care homes
using the American care home concept Eden Alternative (E A) and non E A care homes.
We think that the survey has relevance for occupational therapists, because occupational
therapists have a part in the improvements in the psychical working environment in both
professional- and cross functional issues. We will juxtapose the E A concept with care homes
without E A and look at differences between the two, regarding the elements, which psychical
working environment is based on. To clarify the problem following problem statement has been
developed:
Are there differences between the psychical working environments in E A care homes and
a non E A care homes?
We have performed a quantitative study as questionnaires, which are triangulated with a few
qualitative options. The questionnaires were sent to thirty respondents, divided between E A
care homes, and non E A care homes in Denmark. The analysis of the results is calculated as
percentage and treated statistically in Excel, as bars and then in charts. The results are
meaningful condensate and divided into two and the positive results are then added to see a
difference
To the discussion of the results profession and interdisciplinary theories were used. The survey
shows that E.A. care homes have a better psychological working environment, compared to non
E.A. care home. The difference is 12,5 %
