Tycho Brahes observationer, som ligger til grund for den trykte udgave slutter
Dreyer sin indledning af af med at skrivel:
In preparing this edition of Tycho's observations the following rules were
adopted.
The Copenhagen Codices, as being the original observations, were always
followed, and Codex V only used where there was a lacuna in the former. In this
case it has always been printed out in a footnote "E codice V."
All observations without a single exception were printed.
All calculated places of planets and comparisons with ephemeredes likewise,
except where such places had been calculated more than once, in which case the
better calculation was chosen. The calculated places ofthe sun previous to I 582
were omitted, as they were computed before Tycho had revised the theory of
the sun's motion. Whenever there was reason to suspect any error in observing
or computing, recourse was had to calculation to find the error. Here & in the
other volumes of Tychonis Opera, every effort was made to produce a correct
text.
The same arrangement as in codex V (sun, moon, Saturn .. . ) was adopted, since
this was what Tycho himself would have wished. Cf. T. in "Mechanica" f F2v
(T.V 10e.32).
As a general rule the observations were printed exactly as they are found in the
codex. But to save space they have sometimes been drawn together in more
tabular form such as T. oflten used himself. We did not go so far in this direction
as Bartholin sems to have done (udging by de L'lsle's copy), who e.g. made a
