large table of all the observations of the sun for each year, putting the names of
the various instruments along the top of the page and the dates down the left
side. But we have thought it convenient to gather the loca solis into a table,
instead of, with Tycho, to give them for every day after the observations. The
same has in a few cases been done with places of the moon.
Every word written by Tycho himself has been printed in enclined type in order
to draw attention to it.
The text (descriptions, notes &c) has also been given exactly as in the Copenhagen
Codices, so that a few linguistic peculiarities have been left undisturbed. Among
these are: cornu or genu in Genitive, "poterint" for potuerint, saltem for solum
&c. The well known medieval expression eu ruÅ.arfl is sometimes written en
platei.
It is desirable to place on record in this place the latest and most accurate results
as to the latitude and longitude of Tycho's observatories from observations
made by the Geodetric Survey ofDenmark in I 903- I 904 [Den Danske Gradmaaling,
As to the other places where Tycho observed, it wil I suffice to give the positions
of the two following. [Canonicus David determined these in l80l & 1805. Cf,
