bably influential for economic activity because it was powerful and persistent and took<br />

place in a fragile economy that was easily pushed away from its long-term equili brium.<br />

Today the OECD economies are equally as fragile as they were during the inter war<br />

period with large current account disequilibria and private savings rates that are lower<br />

than experienced in modern history. Perhaps history will repeat itself?<br />
