This term is often used for closedVRLA (valve regulated lead acid) batteries (electrolyte fixed by gel/ glass mat).Fleece battery: see “AGM”W characteristic: Charging takes place according to theresistance characteristic. The charging current decreases and thecharging voltage increases. When the threshold voltage isreached, the charger is switched off manually. The charging time isten to twelve hours.Wa characteristic: This is the same as the W characteristic exceptthat the charger is automatically switched off when the thresholdvoltage is reached. The charging time is ten to twelve hours.Cell: The smallest unit in a battery, consisting of positive andnegative electrodes, a separator and the electrolyte. It storeselectrical energy. Its capacity depends on how big it is; the cellvoltage is a function of the basic electrochemistry of the elementsit contains.Cell short circuit: When a battery is incorrectly charged, discharged or shaken, particles can break off the lead plates. Theysink to the bottom of the housing and form a type of sediment. If thesediment reaches the bottom of the lead plate, a short circuitoccurs in the cell. The measured acid density can vary greatly from cell to cell. Thebattery must be replaced.50
