Dach überm Kopf
Karoline Gluth hat ihr bisheriges Leben auf Rügen verbracht.
Sie hilft als Köchin - zwar ungelernt, aber begeistert
und voll Phantasie und Können - ihrer Mutter und
Tante in der Gaststätte. Die ist eine wahre Goldgrube,
nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil Mutter Gluth „die Hosen an
hat“. Voller Energie und Durchsetzungswillen hatte sie
seinerzeit auch verhindert, daß Karoline ihrer großen Liebe
Aljoscha folgen durfte. Inzwischen ist Karolines Sohn
Alexander 18 Jahre alt, studiert und ist „flügge“ geworden.
Karoline selbst, Mitte dreißig, hat das strenge Regime von
Mutter Gluth satt und will ein neues Leben anfangen. Sie
erwirbt ein Haus samt Grundstück im Berliner Randgebiet
und macht sich mit Wartburg und dickem Konto auf
den Weg dorthin. Eine Arbeit als Küchenhilfe in einem
Großbetrieb ist in Aussicht, und so scheint die Zukunft
recht glückverheißend zu sein. Doch die Realität sieht
anders aus: Das Grundstück ist verwildert, das Häuschen
desolat, ein Pärchen hat sich dort eingenistet...
Karoline greift resolut ein. Sie will ihr „Dach überm Kopf“.
Ein Schwarzmieter, Bauarbeiter von Beruf, hilft ihr - aus
Dank, weil sie ihn nicht angezeigt hat und holt seine Kumpel,
samt dem verwitweten, bärbeißigen Brigadier, damit sie
Karoline helfen. Geld ist da, und schon bald sieht die junge
Frau ihr Häuschen wachsen. Doch ohne Kräche, ohne Probleme
beim Häusle-Bauen und in der Werkküche geht es
nicht ab. Selbst das Konto wird schmal. Aber Karoline hat
es schließlich - trotz noch vieler Mängel am Haus -
geschafft: Sie hat sich ein neues Leben aufgebaut.
Ulrich Thein, geb. 7. 4. 1930 in Braunschweig, gest. 21. 6.
1995. Studierte Musik, nahm nebenbei Schauspielunterricht.
1951 - Übersiedlung in die DDR. Engagements am
Deutschen Theater Berlin und am Theater der Freundschaft
Berlin. Bald geschätzter und gefragter Darsteller
bei der DEFA, so in Günter Reischs Film „Anton der Zauberer“,
wo er die Titelrolle verkörpert.
Wichtige Filme (als Regisseur): „Der andere neben
dir“ (1963), „Titel hab ich noch nicht“ (1964), „Columbus
64“ (1966), „Juliane“ (1972), „Broddi“ (1980), - alle fürs
Fernsehen. Spielfilme: „Romanze mit Amelie“ (1982),
„Mensch, mein Papa…! (1988).
„Thein bestand... die szenaristische Meisterprüfung bei
der Anfertigung der Dialoge, die er dem Volk gewissermaßen
vom Maul ablas. Als der Autor Ulrich Thein das
Seine getan hatte, setzte sich der Regisseur gleichen
Namens in Szene. Bei dieser Doppelfunktion ließ es der
Gute auch schon bewenden“

INHALT · STORYLINE
So far, Karoline Gluth has spent her life on the island of
Rügen. She helps her mother and aunt in the restaurant.
She is not trained for the job but is a keen worker, brimming
with imaginative and practical ideas.The restaurant
is a real goldmine, not least because Mother Gluth
”wears the trousers”. she is very energetic and manages
to get things done her way. Like preventing Karoline from
going off with Aljoscha, the love of her life many years
ago. Karoline’s son,Alexander, is already 18 years old now,
a student and has ”left the nest”.
As for Karoline, who is now in her mid-thirties: she has
had enough of her mother’s rigid regime and wants to
begin a new life. She buys a house with a garden on the
edge of Berlin and sets out for it in her Wartburg car -
and with a bulging bank account. She has good prospects
of working as a kitchen help in a large factory and the
future seems to hold out a promise of sheer happiness.
But in reality things turn out very differently.The property
has become overgrown, the little house is in a terribly
desolate state, with a couple having settled down in it...
She is determined to take immediate action. She wants her
own ”roof over her head”. An illicit tenant, a construction
worker by profession, helps her, grateful that she did not
report him to the authorities. He rounds up his pals, including
the gruff widower and workers’ brigadier, to come to
her rescue. Money is no problem and Karoline sees her
new home taking shape. Neither building the house nor
working in the canteen kitchen goes off without rows,
quarrels and problems. Even the money runs out fast. But
she pulls it off in the end despite the many defects still in
the house. She has built a new life for herself.

Ulrich Thein was born in Braunschweig on 07.04.1930
and died on 21.06.1995. Studied music, taking drama lessons
on the side. Moved to the GDR in 1951. Engaged at
the Deutsches Theater and the Theater der Freundschaft
in Berlin. Soon became a respected and much-wanted
actor for the DEFA, for example the leading role in the
film ”Anton der Zauberer” directed by Günter Reisch.

(1963), ”Titel hab ich noch nicht” (1964), ”Columbus 64”
(1966), ”Juliane” (1972), ”Broddi” (1980), - alle fürs Fernsehen.
