As a global group and member of society, we are
aware of how important it is to protect and promote
human rights. We strive to protect the rights of our
employees and partners by acting responsibly and
cooperate with governments and other bodies to promote
the protection of human rights in all countries
and communities where we operate.
Our goal is to help these areas prosper. However,
many of the regions where we are active face problems,
such as corruption, safety problems and endemic
diseases, which impair development and stability.
Although it is primarily the task of governments to
protect human rights, we are also directly responsible
for supporting and promoting human rights when our
actions and influence affect the rights of our employees,
for example. Outside of our sphere of influence,
our role is that of an ordinary citizen. We may not
necessarily have the authority or competence to act
alone.
We therefore seek to cooperate with governments,
communities, non-governmental organizations and
other partners to understand problems and develop
solutions. We believe that human rights are universal
and support the United Nations Universal Declaration
of Human Rights.
Moreover, we want to share in reducing and abolishing
all types of forced and child labor. The UN Global
Compact provides a forum that links commitment with
these problems. This initiative, which was begun four
years ago, is a network that encourages businesses to
act responsibly in the areas of human rights, labor and
environment.
Corruption in organizations and at all levels of public
administration is one of the primary obstacles to development
of societies. It deprives communities of revenue,
thus reducing opportunities for economic growth
and robbing citizens of their future.
