Abstract
Semantic search for the life sciences

Semantic search promises to improve classical keyword search by exploiting
background knowledge to improve completeness of search results and navigation
in search results. I will give a summary of GoPubMed, the first semantic
search engine for the life sciences. Besides demonstrating the power
of semantic search, I will highlight problems in entity recognition, disambiguation
and ontology generation. A prerequesite for efforts such as
GoPubMed are open access and open data.
