Daniel Parish Kidder (1815 - 1891), an American Methodist minister, accepted
from the American Bible Society the post of missionary in Brazil. He arrived in
Rio in 1837. Kidder undertook a long journey across the Brazilian proncinces. He
returned to the United States in 1840. Among his works he left these Sketsches,
divided into two volumes, the first covering the country between Rio and São
Paulo, and the second volume the Northern provinces. This work is very valuable
from the historic point of view - (Borba de Moraes). Das außergewöhnlich
sehr gut erhaltene Exemplar der Originalausgabe stammt aus der Bibliothek des
Prinzen Adalbert von Preussen - mit entsprechendem Exlibris in beiden Bänden.
