Nostalgic Teddy Exhibition
The former dormitory next to today’s Schynige Platte Hotel is now home to the teddy bears from the
collection of Theresia Bodenmann-Muggler, Turbenthal and Ursula Rudin, Matten. A nostalgic exhibition
room for her beloved teddy bears.
Summit station
Having reached the summit, you now have the third and last section behind you, after exactly
7.25 kilometres and 52 minutes.
The Schynige Platte summit station was built in 1892. An extension was added to the east side
in 1946. In the meantime, the former luggage room has made way for the Lowa Hiking-Boot
Test Centre.
Lowa Hiking-Boot Test Centre
Leading hiking-boot manufacturers LOWA have a large number of hiking boots available here in
all sizes. Choose your favourite from 200 pairs and test them absolutely free for a whole day.
You can also return them to LOWA’S second test centre at the First summit station.
Barbecue spots
Three barbecue spots are sited just below the railway station. Schynige Platte lies above the timber line
and so the railway always ensures that wood for the barbecue is available.
Exhibition / Cinema
The converted personnel house is another must-see attraction. An exhibition and cinema room has been
created where on-duty railway personnel once had to stay overnight. Selected exhibits bring railway
romance from bygone days to life. Marvel at old carbide spotlamps, cogwheel railway systems, railway
wrenches and much more. A short film shows the busy activity surrounding the Schynige Platte Railway.
