The course deals with central issues on financial statement and strategy analysis as well as business<br />
valuation.<br />
Learning Objectives<br />
Students<br />
• acquaint themselves with important technical terms in English language.<br />
• learn to use relevant legal sources (accounting standards).<br />
• analyze business models with the help of financial statements from an investor perspective.<br />
• forecast pro-forma financial statements.<br />
• apply accounting oriented valuation-methods to evaluate companies, business units and strategic<br />
projects.<br />
• scrutinize the performance and limits of simplifying business valuation models.<br />
Participation requirements and exams<br />
• Students taking part in a bachelor program of the University of Cologne attend the course "Financial<br />
Statement Analysis and Security Valuation" as part of the module "International Accounting and<br />
Taxation". Besides this course the module contains the lecture and tutorial "Fundamentals in<br />
International Taxation". Both courses are completed with an exam on November 28 th 2012, 1:45 pm<br />
- 3:45 pm, room S 11. The exam lasts 120 min. and covers the contents of both courses. Passing the<br />
exam results in the imputation of 12 LP. The registration for this exam takes place during the semester<br />
via the Prüfungsamt.<br />
• Students taking part in a master program of the University of Cologne as well as regular<br />
enrolled diploma-students may attend the course "Financial Statement Analysis and Security Valuation"<br />
voluntarily, but are not eligible to obtain any credit points.<br />
• Exchange students taking part in an international bachelor program are eligible to take part in the written<br />
exam on November 28 th 2012, 1:45 pm - 3:45 pm, room S 11. By passing this 60-minute examination 6<br />
ECTS can be obtained. The registration for this exam takes place during the semester via the e-learning<br />
system ILIAS.<br />

Es werden insgesamt 6 inhaltsgleiche Veranstaltungen angeboten. 3 Kurse werden dabei im 1. Midterm<br />
gelesen, 1 Kurs über die komplette Vorlesungszeit, 1 Kurs im 2. Midterm und 1 Kurs als Blockkurs im März.<br />
In den ersten Vorlesungswochen werden in den jeweiligen Veranstaltungen Vorlesungsskripte verkauft!<br />
Diese Veranstaltung wird während der 2. Belegungsphase (12.-24.09.2012) über KLIPS belegt!<br />
