In Mainz treffen Tradition und
Moderne aufeinander. Zur Luminale
2008 betonen Stadtplaner, Tech niker
und Künstler diese Facetten, inszenieren
die Architektur moderner
Gebäude in schillernd-bunten Licht -
installationen und zeigen die Beson -
derheiten historischer Bau werke.
Nicht nur künstlerischen, sondern
auch symbolischen Charak ter hat die
Illumi nie rung der Theo dor-Heuss-
Brücke: Der Licht einsatz hebt die

massiven Pfeiler und wei ten Stahl -
fachwerk bögen der Brücke – aber
auch ihre Bedeutung als Bindeglied
zwischen Mainz und Wiesbaden hervor.
Entlang des Rheinufers leuchtet
ein Labyrinth, darüber erstrahlt die
Rheingoldhalle in neuem Lichter glanz.
Auf dem Ja kobs berg ergänzen sich
die Instal lationen von Zita delle und
Römi schen Theater und nehmen mit
auf eine Zeitreise in vergangene Epo -
chen. Spektakuläre Aktionen präs -
entieren junge Designer am Haupt -
bahnhof und in der Christus kirche.

bridge and its significance as a link
between Mainz and Wies baden. A
laby rinth shines along the banks of
the Rhine, above which the Rhein -
goldhalle shines with new brilliance.
On the Jakobsberg the the installa -
tions of the citadelle and the roman
theatre complement each other and
take on a journey back through time
to past ages. Young designers pre -
sent spec tacul ar events at the main
station and in the Christuskirche.
