Auch nach dem Tod seines Vaters hört der
Sohn nicht auf, für sich und ihn Lieblingsgerichte
zu kochen. Die Rechenmaschine des
Vaters wird zum Ersatz für das verlorene Familienmitglied
am Tisch platziert und der
Sohn ist sich sicher, dass die Maschine ihm
etwas mitteilen möchte. Während sich der
Sohn in der Entschlüsselung von schier endlosen
Zahlenkolonnen verliert, bemerkt er
nicht, dass die Maschine ihn und sein tägliches
Kochen über ein Küchenbord, jetzt ein
Interface, beobachtet. Der Film hinterfragt
die Kategorie des Roboters und die Möglichkeit
einer Maschine Aura zuzuschreiben.
After his father’s death, the son continues
cooking his father’s favorite meals. The inherited
calculating machine has become
more than a machine - a substitute for the
departed father. While the son is convinced
the machine is trying to communicate something
to him, the machine itself is observing
the son’s culinary activities through a
kitchen board, now an interface. The film explores
robot-like categories and the possibility
of attributing aura to a machine.
Mandy Meißner, *1979 in Sangerhausen,
Germany. Has been studying Visual Communication
Design at Berlin University of the
Arts. Vadders Spur is part of her Final Thesis
2010.

Eine kurze Doku-Fiktion, die in einigen Monaten entstand, die
ich mit meinem Großvater letztes Jahr verbrachte. Seit zwei
Jahren empfindet er sich als zunehmend isoliert, konfrontiert
mit der akuten Alterung seines Körpers, der Einsamkeit und
Sehnsucht nach Intimität. In meiner Position verspürte ich das
Bedürfnis, Zeit mit ihm zu verbringen und ihn von Nahem zu betrachten,
ohne jegliche Distanz zu wahren.
Ich verbrachte viel Zeit damit, seinen Körper zu filmen während
er sich ausruhte. Irgendwie war es das Zittern winziger Muskeln
unter der beinahe durchsichtigen Haut an seiner Fußsole, das
mich am meisten berührte. Ich sah darin gleichzeitig eine unnachgiebige,
hartnäckige, ungemein kraftvolle Lebendigkeit
und im gleichen Moment das unumgängliche Dahinscheiden.
Wenn ich ihn auf diese Weise anschaute, konnte ich das Leben
sowohl von seiner grausamsten als auch von seiner schönsten
Seite sehen.
A short docu-fiction that arose after I spent several months
with my grandfather last year. For two years now, he has felt increasingly
isolated from the outer world, confronted by the
acute deterioration of his body, loneliness and a longing for intimacy.
As for me, I felt the need to spend time with him and look
at him from close up, without keeping any kind of distance.
I spent a lot of time filming his body as he was resting. Somehow,
it was the trembling of the tiny muscles under the almost
see-through skin on the sole of his foot that touched me most. I
saw in it a relentless, obstinate, immensely powerful liveliness,
but at the same time its undeniable passing by. Looking at him
in this way, I saw life in him in its most crude and most tender
form.
Viola Groenhart, * 1981, in the Netherlands. Lives and works in
transit between Amsterdam (NL) and Vieux-Fort (GP). BFA in Fine
Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Art & Design, Amsterdam,
the Netherlands, and an MA in Video and New Media, with special
mention for the short film Cees at Le Fresnoy Studio National
des Arts Contemporains, Lille, France (2010).
