Infolge
der Industrialisierung und des damit verbundenen
Energie- und Rohstoffbedarfes werden innerhalb
von ca. 200 Jahren (1900-2100) ca. 80% dieser
Kohlenstoffquellen dem Kreislauf wieder zugeführt
(vgl. Trösch). Dieser Entwicklung muss
schnellstens Einhalt geboten werden, soll die Zusammensetzung
der Atmosphäre, an die das heute
existierende Leben angepasst ist, nicht zu Lasten
des Sauerstoffgehaltes verändert werden. Neben
Energieeinsparung kann die Nutzung von alternativen
Energiequellen (Solartechnik, Wind, Wasser,
Biogas) einen entscheidenden Beitrag leisten.
Biogas – ein Gemisch aus Methan und Kohlendioxid
– ist ein Produkt, das bei der Mineralisierung
organischer Substanz unter anaeroben Bedingungen
freigesetzt wird. Es ersetzt fossile Brennstoffe
vollständig, ohne jedoch den Kohlenstoffkreislauf zu
belasten.
Umwandlung in größtenteils anorganische Verbindungen.
Damit schließt sich der Stoffkreislauf Boden
– Pflanze -Tier/Mensch - Boden auf natürliche
Weise.
„Everything that exists deserves to decline“ (Hegel)
Carbon is a basic component of life. The survival of
nature is based on a balance between the animal
and plant world. Plants take in carbon dioxide to
produce organic substances and release oxygen
(biomass=fixed carbon), whereas animal and man
take in these organic substances and oxygen, and
release carbon dioxide. From a geological point of
view, this balance set as late as during the Carboniferous
period, when huge amounts of vegetable
biomass had left this cycle “for good” by forming
today’s coal, crude oil and natural gas. This situation
led to the present composition of the earth’s
atmosphere with a carbon dioxide content of 0,03
Vol % =300 ppm. As a consequence of industrialization
and the resulting requirement for energy and
raw materials, app. 80% of these sources of carbon
will be re-introduced into the cycle within about 200
years (1900-2100) (cp.W.Trösch). This tendency
has to be stopped immediately in order to prevent
the atmosphere, to which nature has conformed by
now, from changing its structure at the expense of
oxygen. In addition to conservation of energy, the
use of alternative sources of energy (solar technology,
wind, water, biogas) can make an important
contribution to reach this goal.
Biogas is a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide
released during mineralization of organic matter
under anaerobic conditions. It makes a perfect substitute
for fossil fuels, without even affecting the
carbon cycle.
The ever more growing mountain of rubbish is another
global problem. Different studies have shown
unanimously that app. 30-40% of municipal wastes
are of organic origin. On top of that there are organic
wastes from industry and trade as well as
animal dung from live-stock farming.
Decomposition of organic matter, i.e. its transformation
into inorganic compounds, is one of the oldest
biochemical processes at all and completes the
metabolic cycle between soil- plant- animal-mansoil
in natural way.
Grundsätzlich sind zwei Arten zu unterscheiden:
• Kompostierung
• Vergärung
Beiden Verfahrensgruppen ist gemein, dass in der
Natur ablaufende Prozesse in eine technische Gestalt
überführt werden. Dabei werden die Lebensbedingungen
für die beteiligten Mikroorganismen optimiert
und damit der Verfahrensablauf deutlich
beschleunigt.
Prinzipiell unterschiedlich verlaufen beide Verfahren
aus energetischer Sicht. Die Kompostierung benötigt
zur Herstellung optimaler aerober Verhältnisse
einen erheblichen Energieeinsatz zum Umsetzen
von Mieten bzw. zu deren Belüftung. Demgegenüber
entsteht bei der Vergärung das bereits genannte
Biogas. Selbst nach Abzug der für die Aufrechterhaltung
des Anlagenbetriebes notwendigen
Energie verbleibt ein Überschuss von ca. 80%, der
für anlagenfremde Prozesse in Form von thermischer
und elektrischer Energie zur Verfügung steht
(hier ist die Elektroeinspeisung in das öffentliche
Netz gem. Stromeinspeisegesetz vom 07.12.90
Bio waste material after mechanical pretreatment
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
There are basically two ways of decomposition:
• Composting
• Fermentation
Both of these methods copy natural processes in a
technical frame, providing optimum living conditions
for the microbes involved, which results in a remarkable
acceleration of metabolic transformation.
However, they differ principally from an energetic
point of view. Composting requires a considerable
input of energy to establish optimum aerobic conditions
for transposition and ventilation of stacks. On
the other hand, fermentation produces biogas. Even
after deducing the energy used up by the plant itself,
the remaining surplus of energy amounts to
app. 80%.
This is available for eternal purposes as thermal or
electric energy (feeding into the public network
acc.” Stromeinspeisegesetz” of 07/XII/90 is expressly
included herein). Each of these methods will
be justified even in the near future when technology
succeeds in blending the advantages of these two
procedures in terms of ecology.
Organic wastes are a most heterogeneous group of
materials as far as their composition, structure,
origin and “impurity” are concerned. Which “mineralization
process” the waste material shall go
through has to be decided in each individual case.
Consequently, a combined unit for fermentation and
composting in one place (i.e. very close to each
other) is the most promising concept. The most
favourable way to treat gardening wastes (brushwood
and leaves) is, for instance, to compost them
in open stacks because they contain a high percentage
of lignin and cause little odour. In contrast
it is much better for liquid, structure less and foulsmelling
organic wastes to be treated in a closed
two-stage fermentation system according to the
PLAUEN PROCESS.

Das Plauener Verfahren
Das Plauener Verfahren wurde in den Jahren 1982-
84 unter wissenschaftlicher Betreuung der TU
Dresden entwickelt. Die Erprobung des Verfahrens
erfolgte in der kleintechnischen Versuchsanlage.
Erst nach Vorliegen erster Ergebnisse begann die
Errichtung der ersten großtechnischen Biogasanlage
zur Verwertung organischer Reststoffe, die seit
Mai 1987 ununterbrochen und störungsfrei betrieben
wird. Das Kernstück der Anlage bildet die zweistufige
Fermentation unter Freisetzung von Biogas.
Die organischen Reststoffe werden in Abhängigkeit
von ihrer stofflichen Struktur unterschiedlich mechanisch
vorbehandelt und gelangen als Substrat in
die saure Phase. Hier erfolgen die hydrolytische
Substratspaltung und Säurebildung, die Homogenisierung
erfolgt unter Zuführung von Luft.
In der sauren Phase wird Schwefelwasserstoff
(H2S) gebildet.
beteiligt.
Die Methanfermentation erfolgt im Reaktor unter
Luftausschluss, im feuchten Medium, bei Dunkelheit
und einer Reaktionstemperatur von 30-35°C.
Durch eine intensive und schonende Homogenisierung
werden mikrobielle Symbiosen erhalten.
Zwischenprodukt aus der Versäuerungsphase
Intermediate product of sour stage for acidifation
The PLAUEN PROCESS
D G E
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
The PLAUEN PROCESS was developed under the
scientific supervision of Dresden Technical University
between 1982 and 1984. It was tested in the
small-scale test plant, and construction of the first
large-scale biogas plant for utilization of organic
waste materials began only after the first results
had been obtained. This plant has been operated
trouble free since May, 1987. The heart of the plant
is a two-stage fermentation process with release of
biogas.
Depending on their respective chemical structure,
the organic waste materials go through different
mechanical pre-treatment. The resulting homogeneous
substrate enters the sour stage for hydrolysis
and acidification. Air is then fed in to homogenize
the medium.
The sour stage produces hydrogen sulphide (H2S)
whose emission is promoted by distributing fine
bubbles of air in the substrate. The waste air contaminated
with H2S is drawn off and purified in a bio
filter. This is why the H2S content needs to be lower
than it usually is one-stage plants that unite the gas
resulting from both stages.
Retention time in the sour stage is 3-5 days, depending
on the ambient temperature and the kind of
medium concerned. The metabolic intermediates
resulting from the sour stage are continuously or
quasi-continuously transferred into the methanogeneous
stage where the multitude of organic acids is
transformed, with the help of acetogeneous and
methanogeneous bacteria, into acetate and subsequently
into methane gas (biogas).
Methane is produced in the reactor without access
of air, under wet and dark conditions, at a reaction
temperature of 30-35°C, followed by an intensive
but careful homogenisation, which preserves microbial
symbioses.
Abgestimmt auf die vorherrschenden Bakterienarten
werden in jeder Phase optimale Prozessbedingungen
eingestellt; damit kann die Leistungsfähigkeit
des Gesamtprozesses im Vergleich zu anderen
Verfahren deutlich gesteigert werden. Über die
gewählten Reaktionszeiten und die Belastung der
Stufen kann die zweistufige Fermentation gesteuert
werden.
In der methanogenen Phase erfolgt ein Ausgleich
der Ausspülverluste an Biomasse durch den mikrobiellen
Zuwachs und die Biomasserückführung.
Durch den Zweiphasenprozess kann die Aufenthaltsdauer
des Substrates in der methanogenen
Phase auf 8-12 Tage reduziert werden. Das erzeugte
Biogas hat einen Methangehalt von 65-
75Vol. % und ist besonders arm an Schwefelwasserstoff
sowie im Biogasverbrauch ist eine Speicherung
Biogasverwertung
Biogas ist ein hochwertiges Brenngas mit einem
Utilization of Biogas
Biogas is a high grade fuel gas with an average
calorific value of HU = 25, 2 MJ/m³
(7, 0 kWh/m³). Among others, it can serve the following
purposes:
• Kraft-/Wärmekopplung (Blockheizkraftwerk) • Unit heating power stations
• Warmwasser-/Dampfautomaten • Hot-water plants/ steam generators
• CO2-Generatoren für Treibhausbegasung • Provision of CO2 for respiration in green houses
• Herstellung von Erdgas und Kohlendioxid • Production of natural gas and carbon dioxide after
Verfahren)
the Wittenberg process (BCM-process)
Fest-Flüssig-Trennung
Die Dickphase aus den Reaktoren wird abgezogen
und dann den Separatoren zugefördert.
Im Ergebnis der Separation (Fest-Flüssig-
Trennung) erhält man einen schüttfertigen Feststoff
(Trockensubstanzgehalt ca. 2%). Dieses Fugat wird
größtenteils zur Aufmaischung von Reststoffen
(z.B. Biomüll) vor Eintritt in die Versäuerungsphase
verwendet. Beide Fraktionen sind Wertstoffe, die
als organische Dünger im Pflanzenbau einsetzbar
sind.
Solid/Liquid Separation
Thick slurry is withdrawn from the reactors and
transferred into separators. The result of this
solid/liquid separation is a loose solid (percentage
of solids: app. 30%) and an effluent nearly free from
solids (percentage of solids: app. 2%). The latter is
mostly used to mix waste materials (e.g. bio waste)
before they enter acidification. Both of these fractions
are valuable substances and can be used as
organic fertilizers in agriculture.
PLAUENER VERFAHRENS
Der Fermentationsprozess besteht aus einer aeroben
Versäuerungsphase, die diskontinuierlich beschickt
werden kann, und einer aneroben methagonen
Phase, die aus der ersten Stufe kontinuierlich
beschickt wird. Das Volumen der ersten Stufe ist so
dimensioniert, dass eine Pufferung der angelieferten
Reststoffe über mehrere Tage möglich ist.
An beiden Phasen sind jeweils andere Bakterienstämme
beteiligt. Durch die räumliche Trennung
wurde es möglich, jeweils optimale Milieubedingungen
für die Bakterien einzustellen. Auch die Steuerung
beider Stufen unabhängig voneinander wurde
möglich.
Damit wird eine gleichbleibende Qualität der Reaktionsprodukte
erzielt und die Prozesskontrolle und
Überwachung vereinfacht.
Characteristics and Advantages of the Two-
Stage Process
The fermentation process includes an aerobic acidification
stage, which may be fed discontinuously,
and an anaerobic methanogenous stage, fed continuously
from the first stage. The first stage is designed
in such a way that fluctuations in input quantities
can be compensated for several days.
Different strains of bacteria act in the two stages of
process. As the stage proceed in separate locations,
it is possible to provide an optimum environment
for the bacteria involved and to control each
stage separately.
This way the Quality of the reaction products is
always the same and process control and supervision
is simplified.

Seuchenhygienische Gesichtspunkte
Hygienisierung. Also müssen andere Milieubedingungen
wie:
• Nahrungskonkurrenz zwischen begünstigten
Mikroorganismen und Krankheitserregern
• Stoffwechsel-Zwischenprodukte, die giftig auf
Krankheitserreger wirken
• Absenkung des pH-Wertes im Verlauf der
Hydrolyse- und Versäuerungsphase
• Abwesenheit von Sauerstoff
zum Absterben der Krankheitserreger und Unkrautsamen
führen. Eine Nachrotte für den Vergärungsrückstand
ist nicht erforderlich. Nur bei der
Verwertung seuchenhygienisch problematischer
organischer Reststoffe (z. B. Küchenabfälle aus
Krankenhäusern, organische Reststoffe von Luftverkehrsgesellschaften)
sollte vorsorglich eine
thermische Hygienisierungsstufe vorgesehen werden.
Geruchsemissionen
Stoffbedingte Geruchsemissionen, die zwangsläufig
bei der Anlieferung und Aufbereitung der organischen
Abfälle sowie in der Versäuerungsphase
entstehen, werden durch geschlossene Gebäudebauweise
weitgehend vermieden.
Sanitary Aspects
D G E
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
The two-stage fermentation process has proved to
have a hygienic effect. It goes without saying that
this cannot be attributed to any thermal impact. So
there must be other factors of the environment as:
• Food rivalry between the desired microbes and
germs
• metabolic intermediates with a poisonous effect
on germs
• Lowering index of pH in the course of hydrolysis
and acidification
• Lack of oxygen
that kill germs and weeds. The fermentation residue
does not require any further retting. Thermal sanitation
treatment is only intended for utilization of organic
waste materials with a particular epidemic
concern (e.g. kitchen scraps from hospitals, organic
waste from air lines).
Odour
Offensive smells from specific materials which are
inevitably set free during intake and treatment of
organic waste can almost be avoided by inside
installation. Odorous process air is deliberately
drawn off and treated in biofilters before it is released
into ambient air.
Pflanzenbauliche Aspekte
Faulwasser und Vergärungsrückstand (Feststoffe)
sind Wertstoffe, die dem Boden als organischer
Dünger und Bodenverbesserer zugeführt werden
sollen. Im Vergleich zum unbehandelten Rohsubstrat
sind folgende positive Veränderungen im Hinblick
auf die Anwendung im Pflanzenbau festzustellen:
• Schleimstoffe werden abgebaut, wodurch das
Verkleben der Bodenkrume vermieden wird.
• Der pH-Wert steigt durch den Abbau organischer
Säuren in den alkalischen Bereich (pH 7,5…8,0),
womit z. B. die ätzende Wirkung von Gülle auf
Pflanzen beseitigt ist.
• Der Stickstoffgehalt verändert sich nicht. Es erfolgt
jedoch ein Aufschluss des organisch gebundenen
Stickstoffes durch Fermentation in Ammo-
niumstickstoff. Diese
Form des Stickstoffes
kann von Pflanzen direkt
aufgenommen und
verwertet werden. Andere
Pflanzennährstoffe
wie Phosphor, Calcium
oder Magnesium bleiben
erhalten und begründen
die guten Düngeeigenschaften.
• Die Konzentration nicht
abbaubarer Schadstoffe
(Schwermetalle u.a.) in
den gewonnenen Wertstoffen
tritt auf, wenn
bereits Schadstoffe in
den angelieferten organischen
Reststoffen
nachgewiesen werden.
Da es im Laufe des
Vergärungsprozesses
zu keinerlei Abbau dieser Schadstoffe kommt, sollte
auf die Annahme verzichtet werden. Dies ist erforderlich,
um für den Vergärungsrückstand die
Richtlinien der „Bundesgütegemeinschaft Kompost“
der RAL-UZ45 einzuhalten, wie das in der
Referenzanlage in Zobes der Fall ist. Hierzu sind
Eingangskontrollen erforderlich.
Rohsubstrat als Produktaustrag
Raw substrate as product outlet
• Das Faulwasser und der Vergärungsrückstand
sind nahezu geruchlos.
Agricultural Aspects
D G E
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
Effluent and fermentation residue (solid) are valuable
substances that should be applied as organic
fertilizer and for improvement of soils. Compared
with the untreated raw substrate, the following factors
change in favour of agricultural applications:
•
•
•
•
•
Glutinous substances are decomposed, which
prevents friable soils from clotting
As organic acids are reduced the index of pH
rises into alkaline regions
(pH 0 7, 5…8, 0) which eliminates the etching
effect of manure on plants
The content of nitrogen remains unchanged;
however, nitrogen organically fixed is digested
into ammonium nitrogen which plants are able to
take in and utilize directly. Other nutritive substan-
•
ces as phosphor, calcium
or magnesium are maintained
and form the basis
for the good fertilizing
The products obtained
may show a certain percentage
of irreducible
harmful substances
(heavy metals, etc.), if
such substances are already
traceable in the input
material. As these
can not to accept such
waste material. This
necessary to comply with
the limits specified in
RAL-UZ45, as it is the
case in our reference
plant Zobes, and requires
Biogas –ein hochwertiger Energieträger und
Rohstoff
Energie geeignet.
Komponente Formel Vol.%
Methan CH4 40-75
Kohlendioxid CO2 25-55
Wasserdampf H2O 0-10
Stickstoff N2 0-5
Sauerstoff O2 0-2
Wasserstoff H2 0-1
Ammoniak NH3 0-1
Schwefelwasserstoff H2S 0-1
Eine vorgeschaltete Gasreinigung ist nicht erforderlich.
Grundsätzlich hängt der Schwefelwasserstoffgehalt
von der Zusammensetzung der zu verwertenden
Reststoffe ab. Da H2S wie bereits beschrieben, in
der Hydrolyse/Versäuerungsstufe gezielt ausgetrieben
wird, liegt sein Anteil im Biogas unter
0,05 Vol % = 500ppm. Bei ausschließlicher Fermentation
von kommunal erfassten Bioabfällen
haben Messungen in der Referenzanlage Zobes
beispielsweise einen H2S-Gehalt kleiner als
0,005 Vol % = 50ppm ergeben.
Damit
kann eine deutlich wirtschaftlichere Verwertung des
Biogases gegenüber der Verstromung erfolgen, da
keine Abwärmenutzung erforderlich ist. Zusätzlich
wird ein zweiter Rohstoff mit dem abgetrennten
flüssigen Kohlendioxid gewonnen.
Biogas – a valuable source of energy and raw
material
The biogas obtained contains 65-75% of methane
and has a particularly low content of hydrogen sulphide
which makes it especially suitable for generation
of electric a thermal power in a unit heating
power plant.
Components Formula Vol. %
Methane CH4 40-75
Carbon dioxide CO2 25-55
Water steam H2O 0-10
Nitrogen N2 0-5
Oxygen O2 0-2
Hydrogen H2 0-1
Ammonik NH3 0-1
Hydrogen sulfide H2S 0-1
This application does not require any pre-treatment
of biogas.
The content of hydrogen sulphide depends basically
on the kind of input material. As described
above, H2S is deliberately driven out during hydrolysis/acidification,
and as a consequence, the
biogas produced contains less than 0,05 Vol. % =
500ppm of it. Analyses in our Zobes reference plant
have for instance shown a H2S-content smaller than
0,005 Vol. % = 50ppm, if biowaste from municipal
collection is fed exclusively.
Biogas-Aufbereitung
Biogas treating plant
With the use of BCM methods by DGE GmbH (limited
reliability company) in Wittenberg it is possible
to purify the biogas up to the natural gas quality and
separated carbon dioxide. At the same time it is not
possible to decrease the inert portion of nitrogen
and oxygen. In comparison with electric power production
it is possible to attain in this way a marged
increase of economical value of biogas taking into
consideration the fact that it is not necessary no
waste heat utilization. In addition to it, it is obtained
the other raw material with separated liquid carbon
dioxide.
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
The DGE GmbH Company has developed four
different cleaning and modification techniques for
different available options of substance-utilization of
biogas – ref. to the following shortened versions of
descriptions.
Means of biogas utilization BCM-0
Natural gas production
The basic method for the production of natural gas
is the split-up of biogas into natural gas and carbon
dioxide. As a result of a newly enacted Law of Renewable
Energy Resources (EEG), the utilization of
this method itself brings considerable advantages to
everyone who operates a facility based on biogas,
where this biogas is used to produce electrical power.
Means of biogas utilization BCM-1
Soda and natural gas production
Biogas that comes out of a container is always
cleaned first, using one washer; forming NH3 and
H2S, and having been modified in this way, the
biogas is further taken into the waste-gas washer,
in which CO2 and NaOH are removed for the purpose
of producing Na2CO3. Subsequently, with the
use of a compressor, the cleaned-up biogas is
compressed like a natural gas to reach the desired
pressure. Following the first compression phase,
gas dehydration is prescribed, along with the socalled
“police filter”. The achieved quality of the
natural gas is somewhere in the neighborhood of 98
vol. % CH4 and 2 vol. % CO2.
Means of biogas utilization BCM-2
Compressive condensation in the production of split
mixtures CO2/CH4
Biogas that comes out of a container is always
cleaned first, using one washer; forming NH3 and
H2S, and having been modified in this way, the
biogas is further taken into a compression device.
The following condensation phase gives rise to the
forming of a gas rich on methane, which is of the
same quality as natural gas, and carbon dioxide
saturated with methane is being obtained, as well.
Following the first compression phase, gas dehydration
is prescribed, along with the so-called “police
filter”. The cleaned-up gas, just like natural gas
(high-caloric gas), may be supplied into the (distribution)
system or be used as fuel. The carbon dioxide
(classified as low-caloric gas), which is obtained
in a liquid-state, may be used after its expansion in
an electrical power plant in the production of electric
power.
Die getrennte Verwertung beider Gasfraktionen zur
Erzeugung von Produkten wie Methanol, Wasserstoff
oder anderen Kohlenwasserstoffen über die
Fischer Tropsch Synthese ist gegeben. So können
so z. B. aus 100 m³/h Biogas bis zu 70 l/h an Methanol
erzeugt werden.
Biogasverwertungsverfahren BCM-3
Druckwäsche zur Herstellung von Kohlendioxid und
Erdgas
Biogasverwertungsverfahren BCM-4
Druckwechseladsorption zur Herstellung von Kohledioxid
und Erdgas
Das vorgereinigte Biogas wird mittels Verdichter auf
den gewünschten Erdgasdruck von 12 bis 20 bar
verdichtet und anschließend einer Druckwechseladsorption
zugeführt. Der Druckwechseladsorption
ist eine Wasserentfeuchtung mit Silikagel vorgeschaltet.
Die Druckwechseladsorption besteht aus 4
Adsorbern, wovon immer 2 auf Adsorption, 1 Adsorber
auf Entspannung und Gasrückführung und 1
Adsorber auf CO2-Abtrennung geschaltet sind. Damit
wird sichergestellt, dass die Druckwechseladsorption
ein immer gleichbleibendes Produkt von
CH4 und CO2 erzeugt.
Für die Adsorption werden spezielle Molekularsiebe
verwendet.
In addition, both parts are separately used to produce
products such as methanol, hydrogen, or
other hydrocarbons, using the “Fischer Tropsch
Synthese“. It is possible to produce up to 70 1/h of
methanol from 100 m³/h of biogas.
Means of biogas utilization BCM-3
Compressive washing for the production of carbon
dioxide and natural gas
Biogas that comes out of a container is always
cleaned first, using one washer; forming NH3 and
H2S, and having been modified in this way, the
biogas is further taken into a compressor. The
compressed gas must be washed either after the
first or the second compression stage, depending
on the type of the washing medium used. The
washing procedure of the compressed gas is when
the biogas gets rid of CO2 up to less than 1 vol. %,
and in this condition, it may be supplied into the
natural gas distribution system. The required compression
phase, as well as exsiccation that might be
possibly needed, must be adjusted to the current
conditions.
Carbon dioxide, which has been removed from the
washing solution, is of high cleanness and may be
liquefied after it is submitted to another compression
phase.
The achieved quality of the natural gas is higher
than 99 vol. % CH4 and less than 1 vol. % CO2. It is
technically possible to reduce the amount of CO2
below 10 ppm. The thus produced carbon dioxide
can be easily modified to achieve the quality commonly
used in the food industry. There are, however,
many ways of how the technically-clean carbon
dioxide can be used, ranging from dry ice,
through its applicability in fire extinguishers, to material
tests or its use in coolants.
BCM-4 biogas evaluation method
Absorption caused by a change in pressure for the
production of carbon dioxide and natural gas
Using a compressor, the previously cleaned biogas
is compressed to the desired pressure of the natural
gas from 12 to 20 bars and subsequently is
brought to absorption by a change in pressure. The
absorption, which is caused by the change in pressure,
is preceded by desiccation using silica gel.
The absorption, brought about by a pressure
change, is composed of four absorbers, two of
D G E
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
which are always absorption-active, one of the remaining
absorbers is activated for the release and
regressive conveyance of biogas, and the last of
the absorbers serves for the separation of CO2.
This ensures that the absorption, along with a pressure
change, yields the production of the same
product CH4 a CO2 over time.
Special molecular sieves are used for the absorption.

Abbau organischer Substanz
Die organische vergärbare Trockensubstanz in den
zu verwertenden Reststoffen wird zu 85-90% abgebaut.
Allerdings wird im Laufe des Fermentationsprozesses
organische Substanz durch den Zuwachs
der Mikroorganismen neu gebildet. Demzufolge
verringert sich der Glühverlust von ca. 70-80%
nur auf 45-50% (entspricht dem Glühverlust der
Zellstruktur). Diese Aussage bezieht sich beim vorgestellten
PLAUENER VERFAHREN auf die gesamte
organische vergärbare Substanz, weil keine
Feststoffabtrennung erfolgt, werde vor Beginn der
Fermentation noch nach der Hydrolyse/Versäuerungsstufe.
Einfach und robust
Anlieferung aus Biotonne
Delivery from biowaste bin
Reduction of Organic Matter
D G E
Dr.-Ing. Günther Engineering GmbH
85-90% of digestible organic solids contained in the
waste material are decomposed. On the other
hand, the growth of microbes in the course of the
fermentation process produces new organic matter,
which reduces the loss on ignition from app. 70-
80% to only 45-50% (corresponding to that of the
cellular structure). This applies to the said PLAUEN
PROCESS, because solids are not separated, neither
before fermentation nor after hydrolysis/acidification.
Simple and rigid construction
The essential advantage of microbiological processes
over “conventional process engineering” is
the fact that these occur at “normal” temperatures
and pressures which naturally has an influence on
the selection of materials. Through retention times
are in most cases relatively long.
The simple and rigid constructions used in the
PLAUEN PROCESS technique perfectly accentuate
this advantage, taking into account the comparatively
rough service. At the same time it is treated a
high portion of municiúal waste (up to 60%) and
other organic waste from industry and agriculture to
biogas and fertilizer. By further purifying biogas with
the use of BCM METHOD it is possible to attain a
highly economical increase of value of natural gas
and carbon dioxide.
With the help of PLAUEN and WITTENBERG
method they are utilized in the ecological cycle
natural substances and organic waste for power
production and production of valuable materials.
