International workshops on Egyptian archaeology
Rahn Schulen Kairo supports research projects
The European Foundation of the Rahn Dittrich Group for Education and Culture is a legally autonomous entity. Since constitution, it
has, in accordance with its defined purpose, focused substantial efforts on “the furtherance of a spirit of internationality, tolerance in
all areas of culture and the philosophy of understanding between peoples”, among others. The repeated sponsoring provided for field
research in the area of coptology conducted in Egypt by Prof Dr Tonio Sebastian Richter from the Egyptology Seminar at the Free
University of Berlin should be viewed in this context. Specific funds were approved most recently to support his investigations of the
murals and Coptic inscriptions in the ruins of the Deir Anba Monastery near Assuan in Upper Egypt, which are of substantial historical
importance.
Prof. Dr. Richter (Berlin, Leipzig) and Dr. Gertrud van Loon
(Leuwen) presented reports on the current state of the research
work on the second conference day of the two-day international
workshop on Christian Archaeology in Egypt. The seminar was
organised by the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) Cairo
and the Berlin Research Network TOPOI from 31 March to 1
April 2015 in Cairo. Distinguished experts, including academics
from Cairo, Leiden, Warsaw, Berlin, Munich, Leipzig, Paris,
Claremont, Washington, Brussels, Cologne and Freiburg, provided
talks on the latest results of their research. A reception with a
buffet sponsored by Rahn Schools Cairo brought the first conference
day to a pleasant conclusion. The reception was an opportunity
to meet and talk with a large number of interesting persons,
which the representatives of Rahn Schools Cairo and others were
only too happy to use. Dr. Florian Kohstall, Director of the Liaison
Office at the Free University Berlin in Cairo, and RDG Managing
Director Gotthard Dittrich enjoyed an interesting discussion
on a variety of education topics.

Dr. Bernd Landmann zum Ehrenmitglied
des Schumann-Vereins Leipzig gewählt
Der ehemalige Vorstandsvorsitzende des Vereins Dr. Bernd
Landmann wurde in der Mitgliederversammlung am 9. Mai
2015 einstimmig zum Ehrenmitglied gewählt. Dr. Bernd
Landmann hat sich in außerordentlich hohem Maße für die
Interessen des Vereins und die Zukunft des Schumann-
Hauses eingesetzt.
Sein Engagement, seine Weitsicht und sein diplomatisches
Geschick gebührt aller höchster Respekt und Dankbarkeit.
Alle Mitglieder des Vereins freuen sich sehr darüber,
dass Dr. Bernd Landmann dem Schumann-Haus Leipzig
nun als Ehrenmitglied verbunden bleibt.
Ein besonderer Höhepunkt und war ein kleines „Klavierkonzert“
mit Werken von Mozart, das Prof. Rolf-Dieter Arens,
ehemaliger Hochschulrektor der Musikschule Weimar, zu
Ehren von Dr. Landmann darbot.
