DER SCHALTER IM KOPF IST BEREITS UMGELEGT Als 2010 im Frühjahr die Konjunktur in Österreich für fast alle merklich wieder ansprang war es, als wäre man aus einem schlechten Traum erwacht. Nachdem die Stimmung Anfang des Jahres 2009 nach dem abrupten Absturz im Jahr davor -je nach Branche -von veritabler Panik bzw. teilweiser Kopf- und Hilflosigkeit gezeichnet war, stellte sich zur Jahresmitte relative Ruhe, aber auch Resignation ein. Nach dem Jahreswechsel kam langsam die Normalität zurück. Beseitigte Schwachstellen. Das gilt auch für die Führungskräftesuche: Manager verändern sich, Positionen werden wieder nachbesetzt, Personalentscheidungen rascher und ohne Zögern getroffen. Neue Strategien und Akquisitionen schaffen Bedarf für neue Managementkapazität. Unternehmen haben durch die konjunkturelle Notlage Schwachstellen erkannt, ihre Hausaufgaben gemacht, Systeme verbessert, die Marktbearbeitung optimiert. Man spricht wieder über die Zukunft und Routine kehrt in den Alltag zurück, nicht mehr die Ausnahme bestimmt das Handeln. Spricht man in diesen Tagen mit Führungskräften, so gewinnt man den Eindruck, dass bei Weitem der Optimismus überwiegt, wenngleich viele Gesprächspartner dem Frieden noch nicht trauen und den Aufschwung nicht als nachhaltig erachten. Die meisten Manager stehen also nicht nur rational, sondern auch emotional auf der Kostenbremse und möchten kein unnötiges Risiko eingehen. Ging man allerdings in der Vorweihnachtszeit durch Wiens Straßen, spürte man die positive Stimmung der Konsumenten im Vergleich zum Vorjahr. www.stantonchase.com THE „SWITCH“ IN PEOPLE’S BRAINS HAS BEEN MOVED Gert Herold, Managing Partner, Stanton Chase International, Wien/Vienna g.herold@stantonchase.com When the economic situation in Austria started running again in the spring of 2010, it felt like awakening from a nightmare. Whilst the mood was branded by veritable panic , as well as head- and -helplessness at the beginning of 2009 after the sudden economic slump in the previous year – depending on the type of industry – relative calm but also resignation dominated the midyear. After the turn of the year the situation went back to normal. Eliminated weaknesses. This also applies to Executive Search: Managers are looking for new challenges; positions are being replaced, personnel decisions taken faster and without hesitation. New strategies and acquisitions create demand for new management capacities. Companies have identified weaknesses due to the economic crisis, done their homework, improved systems and optimized market cultivation. One talks about the future again and routine comes back into everyday life, the exception does not determine action anymore. When talking with Executives these days, one gets the impression that optimism prevails, albeit many interlocutors do not trust this new peace and do not believe this economic revival to be lasting. Most managers therefore, not only rationally but also emotionally, are still on cost saving mode and do not want to take unnecessary risks. However, walking through Vienna’s streets during Christmas time, one could feel the positive mood of consumers compared to the previous year. 2
